Description
The The invention relates to a means for determining the photocatalytic activity of surfaces, with at least one under the influence of electromagnetic radiation, especially in the ultraviolet range, photocatalytically chemical degradable substance.
In many cases it is necessary to increase the photocatalytic activity of surfaces determine. By this is meant that or whether the surface under action of electromagnetic radiation, especially in the ultraviolet Range to the visible area, to contribute to that one or several specific substances which are in contact with the surface and where appropriate - at least temporarily - absorptive or adsorptively bound, degraded, causing degradation the substances usually a reactant, in particular an oxidant, such as oxygen, is required. Such a photocatalytic activity can be used, in particular with regard to the degradation of pollutants, e.g. from air or water, desired to achieve some self-purification. Furthermore can determine the photocatalytic activity of a surface against certain Standard substances also serve as a measure to what extent the surface has an antimicrobial or antibacterial effect, i. to what extent the surface is capable of some self-disinfection. application areas such surfaces are over diverse and range from sterile packaging to furniture or building surfaces towards walls of reactors, filters or other chemical Attachments. in principle are with "surfaces" in the sense of the present Invention primarily Solids surfaces addressed.
The Determination of the photocatalytic activity of surfaces happens currently e.g. such by the surface material in a solution dipped from a serving as indicator substance dye and the solution then irradiated with electromagnetic radiation, such as UV radiation becomes. The dye used has chromophoric groups which photocatalytic under the influence of electromagnetic radiation are chemically degradable and thereby a color change - usually a discoloration - learn. Indicates the surface a photocatalytic activity on, so the dye is degraded faster (or at all), which is based a color change or by a loss of color intensity is apparent. The color change or the discoloration the indicator substance (s) used within a defined period then gives a measure of the photocatalytic activity of the tested Material.
Such an analysis, which necessarily involves the transfer of a Sample of surface material in a lab he calls. A review of photocatalytic activity of surfaces already existing technical or chemical plants, as it in many cases he wishes can be, is virtually impossible in this way. Furthermore, the - often even not known in detail - Chemistry the chemical degradation reaction or the photocatalytic action the respective surface on the chemism for Different substances may be very different, which is why it is desirable that would be catalytic activity the surface in terms of at least some of certain substances, such as pollutants, individually estimate to be able to.
The JP 08-338808 A1 describes another method for the determination the photocatalytic activity of surfaces According to this Process is a reaction substance in the form of an aqueous halogenated alkaline solution, which is able to react with an electron or an electron hole, which is generated when light on a photocatalytically active Layer of a substrate falls, on the photocatalytically active layer of this substrate in liquid or dissolved Form applied and irradiated with UV light. Subsequently, the Degree of conversion of this substance determined. The degree of implementation can for example about a change of the pH or over a color change of Reactive substance can be determined quantitatively. Contrary to the in described in the previous two paragraphs The prior art is therefore not a sample of the determined surface immersed in the reaction substance, but the sample with the Wetted reaction substance. In terms of the disadvantages of such a method is also particularly a relatively high Handling effort on hand, especially a wetting vertical or horizontal surfaces from below with the reaction substance is not possible. Furthermore there is a risk of drying out of the reaction substance and - in the case a test implementation on the spot - from non-reproducible external effects on this substance, what to an impairment of the measurement result can lead.

Of the Invention has for its object to propose a means in particular, while avoiding the aforementioned disadvantages one simple and inexpensive Determination of photocatalytic activity of surfaces too ensure without the respective surface to take a sample.
- – wenigstens einen Träger zur Immobilisierung der unter Einwirkung von elektromagnetischer Strahlung photokatalytisch chemisch abbaubaren Substanz, insbesondere in flüssiger oder gelöster Form;
- – eine oberhalb des Trägers angeordnete Abdeckung, welche derart auf dem Träger angeordnet und/oder aus einem solchen Material ausgebildet ist, daß sie nach Aufbringen des Teststreifens an einer Oberfläche eine Bestrahlung der an dem Träger immobilisierten, unter Einwirkung von elektromagnetischer Strahlung photokatalytisch chemisch abbaubaren Substanz mit elektromagnetischer Strahlung ermöglicht;
- - At least one carrier for immobilizing the photocatalytically chemically degradable under the action of electromagnetic radiation substance, in particular in liquid or dissolved form;
- - At least one immobilized on the carrier, under the action of electromagnetic radiation photocatalytically chemically degradable substance, wherein the substance is immobilized on the carrier in such a way that it comes into contact after the application of the test strip on a surface; and
- - A cover disposed above the support, which is arranged on the support and / or formed of such a material that after applying the test strip to a surface irradiation of the immobilized on the support, photocatalytically chemically degradable under the action of electromagnetic radiation substance with electromagnetic radiation allows;
The Invention allows on extremely simple and cost-effective Way a quick check of the photocatalytic activity a surface, by applying the test strip to the surface, e.g. to this glued, whereby the respective, immobilized on the carrier, under the influence of electromagnetic radiation photoka talytisch chemically degradable substance comes into contact with the surface. The on the carrier immobilized substance is suitably in liquid or dissolved phase while, of course, they too may be in solid phase. In the latter case, the Useful substance before analysis a suitable solvent moistens what e.g. can be done by moistening the support material. After applying the test strip to the surface can the test strips are irradiated with electromagnetic radiation, depending on the application, sunlight or an (additional) Radiation source can be provided. Does the surface have none? photocatalytic activity, so the substance is not degraded (or only very slowly). is a more or less strong surface photocatalytic activity exists, so it finds a more or less fast he) degradation of the substance locally on the respective surface instead. In most cases it is it is expedient to Test strips over to keep in contact with the surface for a defined period of time to obtain reproducible results. The cover ensures in any case a sufficient passage of the electromagnetic radiation on at least part of the contact surface of the surface with the on the carrier of the test strip immobilized under the influence of electromagnetic radiation photocatalytically chemically degradable substance.
The warranty of whatever kind of oxidant passage, e.g. Oxygen, to the surface below the applied on this test strip is therefore appropriate, because the photocatalytic degradation of the respective substance oxidative in many cases he follows. However, it is alternatively or additionally possible that in addition the photocatalytic under the influence of electromagnetic radiation chemically degradable substance at least a predetermined amount an oxidizing agent already immobilized on the support of the test strip is, so that the Cover the wearer can also be surrounded substantially gas-tight.
As a rule, the wavelength of the electromagnetic radiation depends on the given test conditions and / or on the particular substance which, if the surface is photocatalytically active, is degraded photocatalytically on this surface, it being desirable, for example, to essentially wavelength according to the environmental conditions of the surface to simulate the "normal" conditions in the field, and / or the wavelength is corresponding to a presumed maxi In many cases, a wavelength in the ultraviolet range down to the visible range will be useful.
The Invention gives the opportunity a simple and rapid determination of the photocatalytic activity on site, resulting in a large Variety of application areas opened. Examples are beside the already mentioned surfaces of technical and / or chemical equipment building materials, such as Cements, minerals, tiles, etc. already on surfaces (e.g. of facades and interior walls of buildings or vehicles, furniture, etc.), Called paints, varnishes and the like. In any case, it's fast qualitative and - like closer below explained - at least to a certain extent also quantitative determination of the photocatalytic activity a surface in terms of a particular substance possible.
The photocatalytic under the influence of electromagnetic radiation Chemically degradable substance may be attached to the support of the test strip according to the invention already immobilized. Instead, of course, it is possible, that the photocatalytic under the influence of electromagnetic radiation chemically degradable substance is present in a separate reservoir from the carrier and immobilized on the support to form the test strip of the invention becomes. The substance, e.g. in liquid or dissolved form, from a reservoir, such as a vial, a cuvette, a screw container or the like, by means of a syringe or any other Agent with the carrier of the "blank" test strip in Contact and immobilized there. Lies the substance e.g. in solid form, it may be previously in one suitable solvents solved become.
The carrier is designed in an expedient embodiment so that it is able to store the largest possible amount of chemically degradable under the action of electromagnetic radiation substance. For this purpose, preferably known superabsorbent with a high retention capacity for liquids in question. Alternatively or additionally, gels, for example silica gels (SiO 2 ), may be provided, which may also immobilize a relatively large amount of liquid. On the other hand, for example, textiles, such as braids, woven fabrics, knitted fabrics, knitted fabrics, nonwovens and the like, are also suitable for the wearer, which likewise can absorb sufficient quantities of liquid, primarily due to capillary forces. As already indicated, the chemically degradable under the action of electromagnetic radiation substance is not necessarily in liquid or dissolved phase, but may be either already present in solid form in the carrier or subsequently introduced into this, the carrier then, for example with a suitable solvent is moistened to dissolve the substance and thus to ensure a sufficient contact surface of the substance with the surface to which the test strip according to the invention is applied.
What the on the carrier immobilized, under the influence of electromagnetic radiation relates to chemically degradable substance (s), so gives the invention on the one hand the possibility that as photocatalytic under the influence of electromagnetic radiation chemically degradable substance is selected one which at least a degradable, analytically detectable functional group having. This functional group or its degradation product e) should (n) expedient means relatively easier and fast-performing analysis methods be detectable, such as using IR (infrared) or UV / VIS (ultraviolet / visible light) spectral analysis or else Gas or liquid chromatographic analyzes (GC or LC) using suitable detectors, such as the aforementioned Including detectors Mass spectrometers (MS), etc., thin-layer chromatography, X-ray spectral analyzes (NMR) or similar.
According to one particularly advantageous embodiment may be provided that the at the carrier immobilized, under the influence of electromagnetic radiation photocatalytically chemically degradable substance at least one sub color change degradable chromophore group, such as one with a conjugated electron system or the like. This means that e.g. Such substances can be used, as they are also in the mentioned in the beginning Prior art, according to which the surface material in a solution is dipped from a dye serving as an indicator substance, used who can. As examples of possible Representatives of such substances are 3,7-bis (dimethylamino) phenothiazinium chloride (N, N, N ', N'-Tetramethylthioniumchlorid, Methylene blue), trisodium 2-hydroxy-1- (4-sulfo-1-naphthylazo) naphthalene-3,6-disulfonate (Amaranth, naphthol red S), 1-phenylazo-2-naphthol-6,8-disulfonic acid disodium salt (orange G, gold orange GN, crystal orange GG, Neugelb RS, azide orange 10), 1,2-dihydroxy-AC-3-sulfonic acid (Alizarin red S), 3,3 '- (4,4'-biphenyldiylbisazo) bis (4-amino-1-naphthalenesulfonic acid) disodium salt (Congo Red) and the like. Of course, come also a variety on other substances having chromophoric groups in question, e.g. also those based on azo and / or anthraquinone compounds.
The On the other hand, invention gives the possibility that the under Influence of electromagnetic radiation by photocatalytic chemical degradable substance is selected according to the substance, their photocatalytic degradation is to be determined, i. the bearer of the Test strip according to the invention is doped with that - first - substance (or dopable), the photocatalytic degradation of the respective surface to be examined. In this case, a particularly preferred embodiment of the Invention before that on the carrier at least another - second - substance which is one of the chemical degradation of the first Substance dependent color change experiences. On the carrier In this case, therefore, at least two substances are immobilized, of which at least one first substance (the one whose photocatalytic Degradation at the respective surface should be investigated) under the influence of electromagnetic Radiation is photocatalytically chemically degradable and of which at least one second substance (which serves as indicator substance) one undergoes color change (e.g., discoloration) dependent on the chemical degradation of the first substance. On this way can be the photocatalytic degradation of the substance of interest in each case, e.g. determine a specific pollutant, directly and by means of second substance serving as an indicator.
Methanol), Aldehyde etc.In view of the fact that in particular many organic pollutants are acidic or basic and / or degraded to acidic or basic degradation products with other pK S or pK B values, it is provided according to a preferred embodiment that the first substance from the group organic Acids, organic bases, acids degradable to organic substances and bases degradable organic substances is selected, and that the second substance is formed by an acid / base indicator. As already mentioned, in particular the substance whose photocatalytic degradation is to be determined can be used as the first substance. If, for example, the determination of the photocatalytic degradation of dichloroacetic acid is desired, this substance can be immobilized on the support of the test strip according to the invention in conjunction with virtually any known acid / base indicator. The same applies of course to other carboxylic acids, alcohols (eg methanol), aldehydes etc.
Around for one sufficient access of electromagnetic radiation from the outside to the contact area between the surface, their photocatalytic activity is to be determined, and immobilized on the carrier, under Influence of electromagnetic radiation by photocatalytic chemical degradable substance when the test strip is applied to the surface The cover is preferably made of electromagnetic material Radiation, especially in the ultraviolet range, permeable material educated. Therefor For example, a variety of plastics come into consideration, such as polyethylene (PE), polypropylene (PP), polyethylene terephthalate (PET) and the like which are for electromagnetic radiation in the ultraviolet range to the Visible area into a sufficient permeability have. Alternatively or in addition of course be provided that the Test strip is designed so that electromagnetic radiation the cover over, e.g. from the side, to the surface below of the applied on this test strip passes.
In furthermore preferred embodiment can be provided that the Cover a micro-perforation to ensure access of a Oxidizing agent, in particular oxygen (e.g. Water, etc.), from the outside to the on the carrier immobilized, under the influence of electromagnetic radiation photocatalytically chemically degradable substance. Of course you can also provided here alternatively or additionally be that the Test strip is formed so that the oxidizing agent at the Cover over, e.g. from the side, to the surface below of the applied on this test strip passes. Furthermore, the Cover a e.g. For Oxygen have sufficient gas permeability.
Provided the oxidizing agent is immobilized on the support is, this can on the one hand in solid, liquid or dissolved form present and - how also the photocatalytic under the influence of electromagnetic radiation chemically degradable substance - either already on the carrier immobilized or kept in a separate reservoir be so that it e.g. only immediately before the analysis to form the test strip according to the invention on the carrier of the test strip can be immobilized. In the case of a fixed - already on the carrier immobilized or separately stored - oxidizing agent, in turn possible, this before the analysis or before doping the carrier with the same in one suitable solvents to solve. For example it may be appropriate either under the influence of electromagnetic radiation photocatalytically chemically degradable substance or the oxidizing agent already on the manufacturer to immobilize on the support of the test strip and the other component in each of the test strip keep separate reservoir in stock. The selection of or the oxidation center (s) depends primarily on the selection the photocatalytic under the influence of electromagnetic radiation chemically degradable substance, whereby only exemplarily dissolved oxygen, solid or dissolved Permanganates, peroxides etc. mentioned are.
The On the other hand, oxidizing agent may also be gaseous and e.g. in the form of oxygen, as or atmospheric oxygen, which is already immobilized on the support (e.g., in a porous support matrix, under formation of gas chambers or the like).
A in terms of a structurally simple and inexpensive Structure of the test strip according to the invention advantageous embodiment provides that the carrier at least partially from surrounded by a sealing material. The sealing material of the the surface, their photocatalytic activity to be determined, applied test strip forms in this Case preferably together with the cover a chamber, which the carrier with the immobilized on this, under the influence of electromagnetic Radiation absorbs photocatalytically chemically degradable substance.
The In such a case sealing material can turn out of a for electromagnetic Radiation, especially in the ultraviolet range, permeable material be formed and / or have a micro perforation to a Access of an oxidizing agent, in particular oxygen (for example atmospheric oxygen or water etc.), from the outside to the on the carrier immobilized, under the influence of electromagnetic radiation to ensure photocatalytically chemically degradable substance.
The Sealant may also advantageously be of an adhesive formed or on its side facing away from the cover with such be coated to the test strip thus on the surface whose photocatalytic activity determined should be able to stick on.
In Further development can be provided that remote from the cover at the Side of the carrier - e.g. at the bottom of the sealing material - a protective strip arranged which is prior to application of the test strip to a surface thereof solvable is.
Provided as photocatalytic under the influence of electromagnetic radiation chemically degradable substance and / or as an indicator substance at least such is provided with a chromophoric group whose Degradation and / or its indicator effect with a color change or weakening can go along according to one preferred embodiment be provided that the Test strip is provided with a color scale, which as a color reference this on the carrier immobilized, under the action of electromagnetic radiation color change photocatalytically chemically degradable substance and / or this indicator substance serves. In this way it is possible that the color change this substance and / or the indicator substance by comparison with the Color scale is determined, in addition to a qualitative analysis as well quantitative analyzes are possible in a purely visual way, if the different Colors or intensities the colors of the color gamut values are assigned, each for a particular photocatalytic activity representative are.
Of the Test strips according to the invention does the execution a method for determining the photocatalytic activity of surfaces possible by the surface with at least one under the action of electromagnetic radiation, in particular in the ultraviolet range, photocatalytically chemically degradable Substance brought into contact and the degradation of this substance subsequently determined becomes. It is under the influence of electromagnetic radiation photocatalytically chemically degradable substance, in particular in liquid or dissolved Shape on the carrier of the test strip immobilized and the test strip so on the surface applied that the chemically degradable under the influence of electromagnetic radiation Substance with the surface comes into contact.
