Abstract
Description
The The invention relates to a semi-active, heat-exchanging silencer, the used for example in an exhaust system of an internal combustion engine can be, which is provided with a NOx storage catalyst.
One NOx storage catalyst works only in a temperature window between 250 ° C and 450 ° C. After starting the internal combustion engine, the exhaust gas contained in the exhaust should Heat like that as few as possible discharged to the environment so that the catalyst can start its light-off as fast as possible reached. When operating warm combustion engine must be guaranteed be that one Part of the heat the exhaust gas is discharged to the environment, so that the catalyst not overheated.
The The object of the invention is to contradict these two Requirements, so no heat loss of the exhaust gas after starting the internal combustion engine and causing a Heat loss, when the engine is at operating temperature, through a compact and cost-effective to meet manufacturable component.
This object is inventively a muffler for exhaust provided with a housing, an exhaust gas inlet, an exhaust gas outlet, a heat insulating Exhaust gas guide tube and a valve which controls the proportion of the gas through the exhaust pipe flowing Control exhaust gases. This muffler is based on the idea, two different flow paths for the exhaust gas provide. The first flow path leads from Exhaust gas inlet through the exhaust pipe to the exhaust outlet. Because the exhaust pipe heat insulation accomplished is, are the heat losses the exhaust gas on this flow path minimized; the exhaust gas arrives at the catalyst at high temperature. The second flow path leads from Exhaust gas outlet through the interior of the housing, ie outside the exhaust pipe, to the exhaust outlet. The exhaust gas comes into contact with it the housing, which on its outside the ambient air is exposed. As a result, the exhaust gas is cooled, so that overheating of the catalyst can be prevented. The valve can, for example dependent on be controlled by the temperature of the catalyst, so that at start of the internal combustion engine, the entire exhaust gas flow through the first flow path is passed (apart from a negligible leakage through the second flow path) and with increasing operating temperature of the catalyst an increasing proportion the exhaust stream is passed through the second flow path. At high Operating temperatures of the catalyst may eventually increase entire exhaust flow (again apart from a negligible Leakage current) through the second flow path be directed.
According to a preferred embodiment it is provided that the exhaust gas guide tube is surrounded by a hollow chamber structure. The hollow chamber structure serves for sound absorption by means of absorption and constitutes a mechanically stable unit. It is formed from a multiplicity of hollow metal bodies, for example balls, which consist of a sintered material. Since the metal bodies also bond with their respective neighbors during sintering, an intrinsically stable structure is created, which can be flowed through. The production and construction of such a hollow chamber structure is well known from the prior art, so that will not be discussed further. However, the particular advantage of a hollow chamber structure is that it has a low thermal mass and good insulation in addition to the high sound absorption capacity. Due to the low thermal mass, not much energy is needed to heat the structure. With a density of the order of 0.3 g / cm 3 , its thermal mass is almost 30 times smaller than that of a tube of equal thickness. Due to their insulating capacity, the structure on the side of the first flow path very quickly assumes the temperature of the exhaust gas, while the regions of the structure facing away from the first flow path only heat up with a very large time delay. This inertia effect acts as an additional reduction in thermal mass; the thermal mass is thus very low compared to conventional materials. It is particularly advantageous that the hollow chamber structure has a double function. On the one hand, it serves as a heat-insulating layer on the outside of the exhaust pipe, and on the other hand, it serves as a sound-absorbing layer also on the outside of the exhaust pipe and thus inside the housing.
