Process for the production of carbon and graphite moldings, such as electrodes
In the production of carbon and graphite moldings "like electrodes, one goes.
as is known, from mixtures which contain not only coke but also binders. The co-use
those binding parts that contain liquid and plastic carbon compounds,
takes place in order to enable the shaping in the subsequent pressing process. While
During the burning process, these binders decompose and form a coke residue
leaves behind and gives rise to the formation of more or less large pores. Next to
the quality of the wetting during mixing, the solid coke substance and the binder
is for the strength of the structure of the molded body the amount of. during decomposition
the resulting coke ice is essential. It is known,
the amount of coke produced by thermal decomposition of the binder increases
Increase., d.aß by condensing or polymerizing additives of metal halides
the resin content of pitch is increased. However, it occurs at the same time
an increase in the viscosity of the pitch, which is. often for processing
the still plastic electrode mix has proven disadvantageous.
A method is now proposed for the production of carbon and graphite shaped bodies, such as electrodes, in which, while avoiding the disadvantages indicated, an increase in the deposition of coke from the binder is achieved during firing. According to the invention, this is achieved in that the starting materials used are 1 binder-coke powder mixtures, the metals of Group VIII, such as. B. iron, cobalt and. Nickel, or metals or metalloids of III. and IV. group, e.g. B. aluminum, boron, silicon, or Ca, rbide, such as. B. boron carbide, iron carbide. If necessary, several of the aforementioned substances can also be present. It is essential that the substances are present in the starting material in a finely divided, expediently even very finely divided state. In particular: Grain sizes of about 100 #t and below have proven to be useful, preferably those of 40 #t and below. It has been shown that, with additional amounts of up to about 5%, based on the dry material, a technically flawless increase in the coke yield of the binder can be achieved. However, it is entirely possible, in particular for economic reasons, to purchase the substances in amounts between about 0.511 / o and about 31/9 . on dry goods, add .. With particularly advantageous. It has been found that the method proposed according to the invention can be applied to results if: one is in the. Starting mixtures used coke types that are practically free from sulfur content.
erfolgen. The substances proposed according to the invention can be added in various ways
Way. So, the additive can, for example, the binder before
Mixing with the coke powder can be added. But it can also become the fixed
Component of the mixture can be added .. Furthermore, the addition can also be in the binder-coke mixture
either in a granular state or after the mixture has already been plastified
take place.
