Abstract
Description
Die Erfindung betrifft ein Mikrowellen-Dämpfungsglied laut Oberbegriff des Hauptanspruches. The invention relates to a microwave attenuator according to Preamble of the main claim.
Microwave attenuators, their attenuation in a large Dynamic range can be adjusted gradually usually by connecting several, for example 5 to 10 individual attenuators realized. These are used in modern circuit technology individual attenuators mostly monolithic on one Semiconductor substrate manufactured (for example, according to US Patent 5,666,089). The attenuation of the individual Attenuators are determined by resistances that are in T-, bridged T, Pi or double Pi circuit are arranged and for the transmission loss (in Ideally 0 dB) using one or more switching transistors immediately between the entrance and exit of the individual Attenuator are bridged. Such a well known Step attenuator therefore has the disadvantage that as a result the sequence of several such attenuators Transmission loss overall is relatively high, since the in Series lying switching transistors finite Have volume resistance.
In order to avoid this disadvantage, it is also known the attenuation of a single attenuator by Connection of several resistors to T, Pi or double Switch Pi circuits between different values (US Patent 5,157,323) and for the adjustment of the Through loss only a single switching transistor Bridging these T, Pi, or Double Pi circuits provided. This is a close to 0 dB Through loss can be achieved, but that's what it is Dynamic range of adjustable damping limited because the bridging switching transistor is only a relatively small one Isolation of at most 16 dB and therefore the maximum Attenuation of such a microwave attenuator to 16 dB is limited.
It is therefore an object of the invention to be a monolithic show integrable microwave attenuator that with minimal transmission loss of almost 0 dB anyway the adjustment of damping in a wide dynamic range of more than 16 dB.
According to the invention, this object is achieved by a Attenuator according to the main claim. advantageous Further training results from the subclaims.
By dividing the adjustable damping into two Chain sequentially adjustable Attenuators make it possible to have damping in one to make large dynamic range adjustable, for example between 0 and 45 dB. Still is a minimal one Through loss of almost 0 dB guaranteed. According to a further development of the invention, it has proven to be proven advantageous, the input side first Attenuator between different relatively low Attenuation values, for example 0, 5, 10 and 15 dB, and that subsequent second attenuator between different relatively high damping values of, for example, 0, 20 and Make 30 dB switchable, so that the combination of damping values that can be set separately any attenuation value for both attenuators can be set between 0 and 45 dB in 5 dB steps can.
The division of the adjustable damping into one high damping and a low damping part allows it, the low-damping part with a single Bridging the series transistor for the passage loss and a more suitable one for the higher damping part To provide switching element with higher insulation. As A switching element has been particularly suitable for this proved that the two in series Field effect transistors and one from the junction of these two transistors against ground third transistor consists. This can isolate the for Through loss provided switching element opposite a single transistor can be doubled so that the Dynamic range of the second attenuator also can at least be doubled. By dividing in two can the attenuator easier than integrated circuit can be realized because extremely large or small and therefore long or wide sheet resistances on the Semiconductor substrate can be avoided.
As switching elements for switching the resistors to the T, Pi or double Pi circuits are for example Suitable for microswitches, PIN diodes or transistors, are preferably integrable with monolithic Attenuators used for this field effect transistors.
The invention is based on schematic Drawings explained in more detail using exemplary embodiments.
Fig. 1 shows the basic circuit diagram of a microwave attenuator according to the invention, which consists of the chain connection of two attenuators D1 and D2 arranged between input E and output A. The attenuator D1 is designed as a T circuit and consists of a plurality of resistors R1 to R4, each of which can be switched to different resistance values by means of switching transistors T1 to T7. The second damping element D2 is designed as a double pi element and consists of a plurality of resistors R5 to R10, which in turn can be interconnected to different resistance values by means of switching transistors T8 to T12. The resistors with the same index designation are dimensioned the same size. The switching transistors with the same index designation are switched on or off simultaneously.
The switching transistors T3 and T9 of the attenuators D1 and D2 serve to isolate the damping part from the signal path wegzuschalten. For the same purpose, they are preferably additional switching transistors T1 and T5 are provided ensure better adjustment when the 0 dB states the attenuators are switched on.
Between input E and output G of the first attenuator D1, a switching transistor T2 is arranged. The T-link is switchable to three different resistance values. The left and right part of the longitudinal branch between entrance E and connection point F or connection point F and exit G consists of the parallel connection of a resistor R1, a series connection of a resistor R2 and one Switching transistor T4 and a resistor R1 bridging switching transistor T5. The cross branch of the T- Link consists of the parallel connection of a resistor R3, a series connection bridging this one Resistor R4 with switching transistor T6 and one bridging switching transistor T7. The greatest resistance of the longitudinal branch of the attenuator D1 is determined by the series connection of the resistors R1. A medium one Resistance is set in parallel with the Resistor R1 by means of the switching transistor T4 Resistor R2 is switched. The smallest resistance will set by the parallel connection of R1, R2 and the Source-drain path of the switching transistor T5. By appropriate choice of transistor T5 and the rest Resistors R1 to R4 can be the most diverse desired resistance values can be set. The source The drain resistance of a field effect transistor depends on Type about between two and twenty ohms, the resistors R1 to R4 are selected in the order of 10 to 500 ohms.
Mit dem so konfigurierten Dämpfungsglied D1 können mit
folgender Schaltung die Dämpfungswerte 0, 5, 10 und 15 dB
eingeschaltet werden:
0 dB: T2 ist eingeschaltet, alle anderen Schalttransistoren
sind ausgeschaltet.
Für Dämpfung: T2 ausgeschaltet und T1 bzw. T3 eingeschaltet.
ausgeschaltet.
15 dB: T4 und T5 sind ausgeschaltet, T6 und T7 sind
eingeschaltet. With the attenuator D1 configured in this way, the attenuation values 0, 5, 10 and 15 dB can be switched on with the following circuit:
0 dB: T2 is switched on, all other switching transistors are switched off.
For damping: T2 switched off and T1 or T3 switched on.
5 dB: The smallest resistor is switched on in the longitudinal branch, the largest in the transverse branch, which means that T4 and T5 are switched on and T6 and T7 are switched off.
10 dB: T4 and T6 are switched on, T5 and T7 are switched off.
15 dB: T4 and T5 are switched off, T6 and T7 are switched on.
In the attenuator D2 are different in a similar manner Resistance values with two switching states for the double Pi Selectable circuit. The longitudinal branch of the double pi-link between input G and output A or between the two Series transistors T8 consists of the series connection of the two resistors R5, parallel to each is the Series connection of a resistor R7 and one Switching transistor T11 arranged. The three cross branches of the Double Pi elements consist of resistors R6 and R9, the series connection is parallel to the resistors R6 a resistor R8 and switching transistor T12, parallel to the resistance R9 of the middle cross arm Series connection of a resistor R10 and one Switching transistor T12 arranged. The cross branches are over the transistors T9 are each connected to ground. For the The transmission loss setting (0 dB) is in the Attenuator D2 instead of just one Switching transistor one of three switching transistors T9 and T10 existing T configuration provided. For the Through loss is the one connected to ground Transistor T9 is non-conductive and the attenuator D2 thus between the circuit points G and A through the Bridging the series connection of the two transistors T10. at non-conductive transistors T10 and setting the different damping values through the resistors R5 to R10, the transistor T9 is conductive to ground, as a result the isolation of the bridging is increased and that Attenuator D2 can be used for higher attenuation values be dimensioned.
Mit dieser Schaltungskonfiguration des Dämpfungsgliedes D2
können wieder folgende Dämpfungswerte 0, 20 und 30 dB
eingestellt werden:
0 dB: T10 eingeschaltet, alle anderen Schalttransistoren
ausgeschaltet.
Für Dämpfung: T10 ausgeschaltet, T8 und T9 eingeschaltet.
20 dB: T11 eingeschaltet, T12 ausgeschaltet.
30 dB: T11 ausgeschaltet, T12 eingeschaltet. With this circuit configuration of the attenuator D2, the following attenuation values 0, 20 and 30 dB can be set again:
0 dB: T10 switched on, all other switching transistors switched off.
For damping: T10 switched off, T8 and T9 switched on.
20 dB: T11 switched on, T12 switched off.
30 dB: T11 switched off, T12 switched on.
The attenuator D1 is therefore between the total low attenuation values 0/5/10/15 dB switchable, that subsequent attenuator D2 between higher Attenuation values 0/20/30 dB, so that the overall arrangement of the two attenuators D1 and D2 connected in series switchable between 5 and 45 dB in 5 dB steps is. The transmission loss is only through the Series connection of the two bridging switching transistors T2 or T9 / T10 determined and their value is in the Order of magnitude below 2 dB. The single ones Switching transistors are shown by a Control circuit controlled so that the various above mentioned switching configurations of the resistors arise. The two attenuators D1 and D2 are each set separately.
Fig. 2 shows a further embodiment for the formation of the two attenuators D1 and D2 connected in chain. In this exemplary embodiment, D1 is a bridged T element, D2 is a double T element. The attenuator D1 consists in the series branch of the series connection of the two transistors T1 and the resistors R1. A single bridging transistor T2 is again provided between input E and output G. A resistor R3, the series connection of a resistor R4 and a switching transistor T6 and a switching transistor T7 are arranged parallel to the series connection of the two resistors R1. A resistor R2, which can be bridged with a switching transistor T5, is connected in the shunt arm between the circuit point F and ground, and the series connection of a resistor R5 and a switching transistor T4 is also arranged in parallel. A switching transistor T3 is arranged against ground. The attenuator D2 in the shunt between input G and output A consists of the series connection of the two switching transistors T8, the two resistors R6 and the middle resistor R7. The series connection of a resistor R10 and a switching transistor T12 is arranged parallel to the two resistors R6, and the series connection of a resistor R11 and a transistor T13 is arranged parallel to the resistor R7. The bridging of the attenuator D2 for the pass-through attenuation again takes place as in FIG. 1 by two switching transistors T9 connected in series and a switching transistor T11 connected in the middle thereof to ground. The two transverse branches between the circuit points H and J to ground consist of a resistor R8, to which the series circuit of a resistor R9 with a switching transistor T14 is connected in parallel. The connection to ground is made via the switching transistors T10. The transverse transistors T3 and T10 in FIG. 2 again serve to switch the damping part of the two damping elements D1 and D2 away from the signal path. In addition, the transistors T1 and T8 are again provided for the same purpose.
