Description
Gebiet der ErfindungField of the invention
The invention is in the field of cosmetic oil bodies and relates to an improved process for the production of Guerbet alcohols.
Stand der TechnikState of the art
Chem. 64, 212 (1952).Guerbet alcohols represent branched primary alcohols in the 2-position, which are obtained by condensation of linear fatty alcohols. The products are mainly used as oil components for the production of cosmetic emulsions. As a rule, they are prepared from fatty alcohols which initially condense themselves under the influence of strong bases and heavy metal compounds, such as, for example, copper or zinc oxide. It is assumed that under the reaction conditions, the alcohol is first dehydrogenated to give the aldehyde, this undergoes an aldol condensation with itself and the condensation product is then hydrogenated to the alcohol. An overview can be found, for example, in Angew. Chem. 64, 212 (1952).
The Guerbet alcohols produced by the processes of the prior art have production-related iodine numbers in the range of 4 to 6 and carbonyl numbers of 1500 to 4000 ppm. In the wake of increased quality requirements, however, there is a need for such products, which have virtually no unsaturated components and significantly reduced carbonyl contents and are particularly light colored and completely odorless.
The object of the present invention has therefore been to provide such an improved manufacturing process.
Beschreibung der ErfindungDescription of the invention
The invention relates to a process for the preparation of Guerbet alcohols having iodine numbers less than 1 and carbonyl numbers below 500 ppm by alkali-catalyzed dimerization of primary fatty alcohols having 6 to 22 carbon atoms, characterized in that the Guerbetisierungsprodukte then hardens / hydrogenated and distilled and subsequently a deodorization with water vapor performs.
Surprisingly, it has been found that an aftertreatment by (a) curing / hydrogenation and (b) distillation and deodorization with steam provides the Guerbet alcohols in the desired quality.

Destillation und DesodorierungDistillation and deodorization
The further work-up of the intermediate product is carried out by an overhead distillation and by deodorization with steam. For the distillation, the combination of different components has proven itself. Thus, the mixture first passes into a precolumn in which a top pressure of 1 to 10 mbar and a bottom temperature of 150 to 160 ° C prevail. It is then transferred to the main column, which in turn consists of a falling film or thin film evaporator. Again preferred is to combine the two components. The flow temperature of the falling film evaporator is preferably in the range of 210 to 225, the thin film evaporator slightly higher in the range of 215 to 230 ° C. In both cases the head pressure is preferably 0 mbar; a return is dispensed with.
Technical 2-octyldodecan-1-ol from the self-condensation of 2 moles of decanol (IZ = 4.0, OHN = 178, SZ = 0.05, COZ 2500 ppm) was in an autoclave in the presence of a nickel catalyst at a temperature of 155 ° C and a pressure of 20 bar over a period of 1.5 h cured. The cure product contained 3.5 wt% light and 6.6 wt% high boiler. After curing, the product had the following specification: IZ 0.2, OHZ = 182, SZ = 0.16, COZ = 400 ppm. The Lovibond color of the product was 0.05 (yellow) and 0.04 (red). Subsequently, the product was further worked up by distillation. At a throughput of 2,500 kg / h, the distillation was carried out in a pre-column at a top pressure of 1 mbar and a bottom temperature of 153 ° C. The mixture then passed into a main column with falling film evaporator, which had a flow temperature of 220 ° C, and then into a downstream thin-film evaporator with a flow temperature of 225 ° C. The overhead product was transferred to a deodorization column in which it was treated with a quantity of steam of 70 m 3 / h; the steam inlet temperature was 240 ° C, the head pressure 45 mbar. The composition of the virtually odorless final product was: IZ = 0.2, OHZ = 191, SZ = 0.05, COZ = 300 ppm.
