Abstract
In order to achieve a reliable display at the critical fill level points, the fill level in the container (10) is not continuously measured over the entire range. The electrodes (141, 142, 143) for the level measurement are rather designed in such a way that the measured value changes abruptly when certain limit values of the level are exceeded or undershot. These jumps in measured values can be reliably recognized without high demands on the measuring accuracy. The states "full container" (FS2), "minimum fill level in the container" (FS3) and "empty container" (FS4) are usefully defined as such limit values.
Description
The invention relates to a method and an apparatus for Determining the level of a liquid, especially for one stored in a container and one in a motor vehicle witnessed reducing agent for exhaust gas aftertreatment in an internal combustion engine.
The nitrogen oxide emission of an internal combustion engine working with excess air, in particular a diesel internal combustion engine, can be reduced to atmospheric nitrogen (N 2 ) and water vapor (H 2 O) using the SCR process (selective catalytic reduction). Gaseous ammonia (NH 3 ), ammonia in aqueous solution or urea in aqueous solution can be used as reducing agents, for example. The urea serves as an ammonia carrier and is injected into the exhaust system with the aid of a dosing system in front of a hydrolysis catalytic converter, where it is converted to ammonia by hydrolysis, which in turn is then used in the actual SCR catalytic converter, often referred to as DeNOx catalytic converter, to reduce the nitrogen oxides.
Such an Ab working with liquid reducing agent gas aftertreatment system has essential components a reducing agent tank, a pump, a pressure regulator, a pressure sensor, a metering valve and the necessary Connection lines on. The pump promotes this in the Reduk reducing agent storage for the Do sierventil, by means of which the reducing agent in the exhaust gas injected upstream of the hydrolysis catalyst becomes. The dosing valve is controlled by signals from a control device device is controlled in such a way that it depends on the operating parameters the internal combustion engine a certain, currently necessary amount of reducing agent is supplied (DE 197 43 337 C1).
To ensure the continuous availability of a such SCR exhaust gas aftertreatment system is a reliable one Monitoring of the fill level in the reducing agent tank nope tig. If the level falls below a predetermined value, so the driver of the motor vehicle should be visual and / or acoustic be alerted to the table, the container z. B. in Refill the frame of the next fuel stop. For various Applications should also be possible from a change the level to a consumption of reducing agent close to better control of the SCR process or to enable diagnosis of the associated dosing system chen.
Conventional systems for level sensors with float and Potentiometers as usually used for fuel tanks are intended for use in aqueous urine substance solution because of the conductivity of the liquid, the cor rosiness and crystallization when drying out problema table.
In existing systems, the fill level is Measurement of the electrical resistance between two well conductive capable electrodes (stainless steel rods). The electric one Resistance results from the limited conductivity of the Reducing agent solution between the electrodes. Thus the electrical resistance in principle indirectly proportional to Immersion depth of the electrodes. Since the conductivity of the Reduk solution of concentration, temperature and che mixer composition (proportion of free ammonia in the solution solution when using aqueous urea solution), the conductivity is also independent of the level Reference electrodes measured to measure from the ratio values of reference and level electrodes the tank fill to calculate. The relatively large range of variation Conductivity requires a large measuring range in the evaluation electronics, whereby the resolution and accuracy the measurement can be restricted (DE 198 41 770 A1).
The invention has for its object a method and specify a device with which or with the simple Way the level of an electrically conductive liquid in a container can be determined.
This task is carried out for the process by the characteristics of Claim 1 and for the device by the features of claim # solved. Advantageous further training are specified in the subclaims.
In spite of the limited accuracy of the previous Sen principle, at the critical level points a verver to achieve casual ad, the Level in the container continuously over the entire area to measure. The electrodes for level measurement who rather designed so that the measured value jumps changes when certain limit values of the fill level or fall below. These jumps in measured values can be made without high demands on measuring accuracy reliably recognized become. As such limit values, the Zu reads "full container", "minimum fill level in the container" and "empty container" defined.
This has the advantage that a simple dimensioning of the Sensor electrodes are sufficient and there are no high requirements to the accuracy of the surfaces of the electrodes be put. Due to the high measurement accuracy on the defi points, enables the self-calibration capability of the Dosage amount of reducing agent.
If it can be ensured that when refueling Re means of filling the fill level the limit "full container ter ", even a continuous level indicator can be reached can be achieved with greater accuracy than with the previously known system with continuous measurement.
The solution described combines the accuracy advantages of Limit switches with the advantages of a continuous Level indicator. This becomes the mechanically simple principle the conductivity measurement with the possibilities which one Control computer in the dosing control unit offers, combines and thus an accurate and continuous level indicator possible, which also, because of the absolutely stable limit detection, a self-calibration of the reducing agent dose tion enables.

Fig. 2 shows a sectional view of the container 10 for storing aqueous reducing agent 19 , such as urea solution, for example, only the components necessary for determining the level are shown. In particular, special supply and discharge openings for the reducing agent 19 , the reducing agent pump, filter and the associated connecting lines used for conveying the reducing agent are not shown.
The container 10 is preferably made of an electrically poorly conductive or non-conductive material, for example made of plastic, and is either installed freely accessible within the vehicle or only the filler opening of the container 10 is accessible to the driver. If the container 10 is installed in the vehicle at a point which ensures that at least one of its side walls is visible, it is expedient to choose a transparent material for the container 10 , since then an additional visual control of the fill level is made possible ,
Furthermore, it is also possible to manufacture the container 10 from metal, for example from aluminum. But it must be ensured that walls of the container 10, as an additional ground potential, do not exert too great an influence on the level measurement.
On the top of the container 10 , a carrier part 101 is arranged, which is preferably releasably attached to the container 10 and is used for holding and mutually electrical insulation of electrodes used for level measurement. Specifically, these are a level electrode 141 , a reference electrode 142 and a common reference electrode de 143 .
The electrodes 141 , 142 , 143 mentioned are made of identical, sufficiently good electrical conductivity and reducing agent resistant material, for example stainless steel or an electrically conductive plastic material. It only has to be ensured that the electrical resistance of the electrodes 141 , 142 , 143 is significantly lower than the electrical resistance of the reducing agent between two electrodes used for the measurement.
Sie verlaufen ausgehend von dem Trägerteil 101 jeweils parallel zueinander innerhalb des Behälters 10.Furthermore, the electrodes 141 , 142 , 143 each have a rod-like shape of the same cross section, but different lengths within the container 10 . Starting from the carrier part 101, they each run parallel to one another within the container 10 .
The filling level electrode 141 is covered with an electrically insulating material 1411 over most of its length. No such insulating material 1411 is applied to an upper region 1412 facing the carrier part 101 and to its free end region 1413 facing the container bottom, so that an electrical contact to the reducing agent is possible in these regions 1412 , 1413 with appropriate fill levels.
Starting from the carrier part 101, the reference electrode 142 is likewise surrounded by an electrically insulating material 1411 and thus runs in an isolated manner up to a point close to the bottom of the container 10 at which an electrically insulating separating element 144 is arranged, while the free one protruding below the separating element 144 No insulation at the end of the reference electrode 142 , and electrical contact with the reducing agent 19 is thus possible until the fill level FS4 falls below a correspondingly low level.
The electrically insulating material 1411 for the fill level electrode 141 and the reference electrode 142 can, for example, be designed as an insulating tube, insulating tube or these electrodes 141 , 142 are coated or extrusion-coated with a corresponding material. Furthermore, it is also possible to design the two electrodes 141 , 142 as so-called hollow electrodes in the form of tubular pieces which at the same time perform the function of a supply or removal line for the reducing agent, as described in DE 198 42 484 A1.
The separating element 144 splits the total volume of the container 10 into two partial volumes, the closed volume between the container bottom, the container side walls and the separating element 144 , in which the reference measurement is carried out, since it is significantly smaller than that between the partition 144 , container side walls and enclosed volume on top of the container. The separating element 144 can, as is shown in FIG. 2, be designed as a plate or disk, each of which is adapted to the geometry of the container 10 in the bottom region in such a way that a mutual influence of the fill level electrode 141 and the reference electrode 142 can be avoided. If the separating element 144 as shown in FIG. 2 shows a large area, it must be ensured by cutouts, openings or the like that sufficient reducing agent can get into the volume below the partition 144 . In this largely separated volume, the reducing agent pump and a filter or sieve upstream of the reducing agent pump can also be arranged in an advantageous manner.
Between the level electrode 141 and the reference electrode de 142 , a reference electrode 143 (ground electrode) is arranged, which represents the common counter electrode to the level electrode 141 and to the reference electrode 142 . It is free of any electrically insulating material along its entire length and projects through the separating element 144 to the bottom of the container 10 . The connection of this reference electrode 143 is preferably at the ground potential of the metering control device 9 . The connections of the fill level electrode 141 and the reference electrode 142, which are not described in any more detail, are connected to inputs of the metering control device 9 .
For the level measurement, on the one hand the electrical resistance between the level electrode 141 and the reference electrode 143 and on the other hand the electrical resistance between the reference electrode 142 and the reference electrode 143 are measured and these values are related.
derstandes Rref.In order to avoid electrolysis processes in the reducing agent 19 , these measurements are carried out with alternating current without a direct current component. For the following description of the measurement, it is assumed that the electrical resistance between the reference electrode 143 and the level electrode 141 , hereinafter referred to as the measured resistance R mess , and the resistance between the reference electrode 143 and the reference electrode 142 , hereinafter referred to as the reference resistance R ref designated, are each the same. This can be achieved by having an identical cross section of all three electrodes 141 , 142 , 143 of the non-insulating upper region 1412 and the lower end region 1413 of the filling electrode 141 , and the lower region of the reference electrode 142 each having the same length. This results in the same values for their surfaces and the following states with regard to the fill level can be distinguished:
In the case of a container 10 filled with reducing agent 19 , corresponding to level FS2, both the upper area 1412 of the level electrode 141 and the lower area 1413 of the level electrode 141 are immersed in the reducing agent 19 . Since this is due to the chosen design of the electrode areas 1412 , 1413 immersed in the reducing agent 19 , a parallel connection of two identical electrical resistors, and when the container 10 is full, the lower area 1421 of the reference electrode 142 is also immersed in the reducing agent 19 , the value of Measured resistance R mess half the value of the reference resistance R ref .
If the level FS1 in the container 10 is below the upper area 1412 of the level electrode 141 , but still above the lower area 1413 of the level electrode 141 , then the two measured values R mess and R ref are the same. If the reducing agent in the container 10 drops below the area 1413 of the fill level electrode 141 , i.e. if both areas 1412 , 1413 are not wetted with reducing agent, the measured electrical resistance is very high, which is equivalent to the insulation resistance (ideally infinitely large resistance). , This level is called the minimum level FS3.
The value for the minimum fill level FS3 and thus the clear distance between the lower end of the area 1413 and the bottom of the container 10 is determined such that when the minimum fill level FS3 is reached in the container 10 there is still so much reducing agent 19 in the container 10 that the vehicle can still be operated with the exhaust gas aftertreatment system until the next fuel stop, at which fuel must also be refilled anyway, even if the vehicle was refueled with fuel shortly before the minimum fill level FS3 was reached.
If no reducing agent 19 is refilled, the level in the container 10 will continue to decrease due to the metering of the reducing agent 19 until, at a certain point in time, the lower area 1421 of the reference electrode 142 no longer dips into the reducing agent 19 (fill level FS4). This state can also be recognized in a simple manner, since in this case both the electrical resistance R mess at the fill level electrode 141 and the electrical resistance R ref at the reference electrode 142 assume very high values (insulation resistance, ideally infinitely high electrical) Resistance).
Any liquid film or drops of reducing agent 19 still present on the electrodes do not impair the measurement, since compared to immersion in reducing agents, neither a thin layer nor drops on the surface in the corresponding areas of the electrodes contribute significantly to the conductivity.
The comparison and the evaluation of the values Rmess and Kref he follows in the metering control unit 9 in a manner known per se. The three fill levels FS2 (full container), FS3 (minimum fill level below) and FS4 (empty container) that are important for the driver of the vehicle are preferably displayed optically on the dashboard.
If a continuous level indicator for the liquid reducing agent 19 stored in the container 10 is provided in the vehicle, the arrangement described for level measurement can advantageously be used in addition. A continuous fill level display can take place, for example, on the basis of a calculated value of the metering control unit 9 . Since a certain amount of reducing agent 19 is injected into the hydrolysis catalytic converter per metering pulse, impulses to the current fill level in the container 10 can be closed with a known starting amount of vorra tetem reducing agent by adding up the number of metering pulses. It must therefore be ensured that at the beginning of the calculation of the current fill level, the container 10 is completely filled with reducing agent.
Die Kombination einer solchen kontinuierlichen Füllstandsan
zeige mit der beschriebenen 3-Punkt Füllstandsbestimmung er
laubt folgendes Vorgehen:
menge z. B. in Liter anzeigen.
The combination of such a continuous level indicator with the 3-point level determination described allows the following procedure:
If the container 10 is installed in an inaccessible place in the vehicle and this is filled by means of a pump, reducing agent 19 flows into the container 10 until the fill level FS2 is reached and then the metering control unit 9 switches off the pump and therefore due to the full Container 10 stops filling. The continuous level indicator is now 100% or the maximum filling quantity z. B. display in liters. During the operation of the vehicle, the metering control unit 9 continuously adds up the metered amount of reducing agent and uses it to calculate the current fill level. If the actual fill level reaches the threshold "minimum fill level" (fill level Fs3), the driver is signaled to the driver that the next time they refuel, reducing agents must also be refilled. In addition, the metering control device 9 can now compare its calculation with the actual fill level and, if necessary, correct the data used for the throughput of the metering valve 15 . If no reducing agent 19 is refilled during the next refueling stop or if the limit value "empty" (fill level FS4) is reached beforehand due to special circumstances, the metering of the reducing agent is stopped in order to prevent the metering system from running dry.
