Abstract
Description
The invention relates to a method for recycling used COD solutions in which the components are mercury and silver as Metals and sulfuric acid are recycled the.
The measurement of chemical oxygen demand (COD) is one of the important factors in classifying the degree of pollution Running water and in wastewater and sewage treatment plants in particular organic contaminants. The COD value then gives the Ge stop at oxidizable substances again, the implementation the water sample with potassium dichromate in sulfuric acid solution can be determined. The lower the oxygen requirement, the more the quality or water quality of the sample is better. For determination of the COD value there is the possibility of DIN determination DIN 38409 and a cuvette test.
Concentrations are made in the chemical determination of oxygen demand used sulfuric acid solutions, the silver and mercury bersulfat, and potassium dichromate added as reagents the.
The waste water to be examined is mixed with the reagent solution sets, mixed and for 2 hours in a thermoreactor at 148 ° C heated, making all oxidizable components of the solution completely be implemented. The oxidizing agent Cr (VI) becomes Cr (III) reduced.
Mercury sulfate present in the solution is used for masking any chloride ions present in the solution as chlorine complexes xe, which are otherwise oxidized to chlorine and thus the knife would falsify the result. The silver sulfate acts as a catalyst that the oxidation accelerates.
After the reaction, the residual Cr (VI) content in the solution photometric (in the case of cuvette tests) or during the determination determined according to DIN 38409. Here, with ammonia Sensulfate titrated with the addition of ferrocin as a redox indicator.
The preparation of the residual solutions is problematic. In addition to unused cuvette test solutions, there are large amounts of used cuvette test solutions and solutions from the DIN test. In addition to a 20-40% sulfuric acid, these solutions contain mercury salts, silver salts and chromium (VI) in the form of K 2 Cr 2 O 7 .
Environmentally harmful substances are separated from waste water mostly only partially. So there are special procedures for mercury removal from waste water. The precipitation of Hg as HgS by Zu FeS is given in Suishitsu Odaku Kenkyu (1986), 9 (5), 291-8 described.
Some procedures lead to the removal of mercury and silver from polluted waste water. The sewage was, for example passed over exchange resins and those loaded with the metals Exchanger resins deposited on hazardous waste landfills.
In DE 38 12 501, COD solutions are specifically converted to copper gave mercury and silver. Here Ag and Hg are from the Solution removed, but the sulfuric acid solution still contains Chromium (III) and copper (II). The residual solution is prepared Not.
In J.-Water Pollut. In J.-Water Pollut. Control Fed, 56 (6), (1984), 468-473 turn silver (Ag) and mercury (Hg) in a 2-step process from COD Solutions removed. First the silver is added by adding NaCl precipitated and in a second step the mercury through iron admission failed. Chromium, copper and sulfuric acid are like therefore not worked up.
The object of the present invention is therefore to provide an inexpensive easy to implement procedure that the Avoids disadvantages of the previous methods and, besides the how recycling mercury and silver, recycling the Allows sulfuric acid.
The object according to the invention is achieved by a method for recycling metal-containing, strongly sulfuric acid solutions, in which
- a) als Fällungsreagenz metallisches Eisen redoxkontrolliert bis zu ei nem Potential von -450 mV bis -550 mV gegen eine Normal- Wasserstoff-Elektrode zur Entfernung von Metallen in Form ihrer Amalgame zugegeben wird,a) Redox-controlled up to egg as a precipitation reagent metallic iron potential from -450 mV to -550 mV against a normal Hydrogen electrode for the removal of metals in the form of their Amalgam is added
- b) die Lösung mit alkalischer Lösung bis zu einem pH-Wert versetzt wird, daß die Metalle als Hydroxide ausfallen undb) the solution is mixed with an alkaline solution up to a pH is that the metals precipitate as hydroxides and
- c) die ausfallenden Metallhydroxide abgetrennt werden.c) the precipitated metal hydroxides are separated off.
Surprisingly, it was found that all in DIN or cuvette test solutions materials contained in COD regulations are almost full can be continuously recycled. The procedure becomes ei ne solution recovered, the remaining concentration of mercury ber, silver or chromium below the detection limit of modern analy methods.
It was found that this is the case with the preparation according to the invention processing of DIN or cuvette test solutions from COD regulations advantageously the amalgam formed in step i) in acidic Me dium is separated. This enables the amalgam to be of high purity be separated. After washing and drying the amal gams mercury is recovered by distillation. Other Metals such as B. silver, are made via a metallurgical process recovered.
However, the amalgam can also be separated off after step i) to be dispensed with. The amalgam can then together with the Hy droxides are prepared after step ii).
It was also found that the redox-controlled addition of iron the toxic and caustic chrome VI almost completely in Chromium III is transferred. This is achieved by precipitation in the basic Be richly precipitated as a hydroxide, filtered off and recycled leads.
Surprisingly, the expected evolution of hydrogen does not occur if an excess of iron is avoided. For prevention Hydrogen development therefore reduces iron of the metals added in a redox-controlled manner.
It has been found that the use of iron as a reduction medium is particularly advantageous since this metal already in the waste of DIN solution is present in the form of its salts, and therefore no white Other substances are added. In addition, iron is related to its water Risk classified lower than the corresponding copper salt. The iron, which is cheaper than copper, also interferes with the no further use of the alkali sulfate solution.
With this process, various strong sulfuric acids solutions that are contaminated with metal ions. The impurities can be selected from the group of Metals that are redox controlled up to a potential of -550 mV deposited a normal hydrogen electrode (NHE) and Metals that precipitate in the basic environment in the form of their hydroxides that can. The procedure is especially for the processing of DIN and cuvette test solutions for COD determination and their Waste solutions suitable.
A general example of the invention is explained below.
The solution is used without pretreatment or depending speed of the precipitated sulfate to a sulfuric acid content Diluted 15%.
The solution is then redox-controlled with iron up to egg nem potential of about -450 mV to -550 mV against NHE, preferred up to -490 mV, offset. The reaction mixture is 15 min to 45 min stirred at room temperature. In this case, metals differ, which also Form mercury amalgam, preferably silver, in the form of amal chamois. At the same time, chromium VI is completely converted into chromium III leads.
The resulting amalgam is preferred, but not necessary in some cases, filtered off from the solution, washed, dried and one Further processing fed. The mercury is made by distillati on, the metals recovered in a metallurgical process.
To remove the metals still present in the solution, before adding Cr III or Fe II, the solution is made basic with an alkaline solution, before adding potassium hydroxide solution or sodium hydroxide solution. A pH of between 9 and 14, preferably of pH 12, is advantageously set. The metals precipitate out in the form of their hydroxides. The amorphous hydroxides can be centrifuged and then filtered off. For better flocculation of the hydroxides Floc kmittel such. B. Praestol® 2350 can be added. The hydroxides de coagulate and are thus obtained in a form that is easy to filter. The hydroxides, such as chromium hydroxide (Cr (OH) 3 ) and iron hydroxide (Fe 3 (OH) 2 ), are recycled.
The remaining potassium or sodium sulfate solution has a residue concentration of mercury, silver or chrome below the Detection limits are and will therefore be used again as raw materials.
The following examples are intended to explain the invention in more detail, but without restricting them.
Ein Überblick über die Restkonzentrationen an Hg, Ag und Cr der einzelnen Ver fahren nach Reduktion und Alkalisieren sind der Tabelle 1 zu ent nehmen.100 ml of used COD test solution are presented, with water in the Diluted ratio 1: 4 and mixed with a reducing agent until with the help of potassium iodide sticks no oxidizing properties the solution is detectable. As a reducing agent, iron, Iron (II) sulfate, sodium sulfite, sodium thiosulfate, ascorbic acid and Examined glucose. The reaction mixture is 30 min at room temperature stirred. Here, mercury and silver differ Form of amalgam. For this approach, a 50% potassium hydroxide solution added up to a pH of 12. After egg After a reaction time of 30 minutes, the total precipitation is the best Starting from amalgam, chromium hydroxide and possibly silver, mercury Filtered over and iron hydroxide. The basic sulfate solution comes with Neutralized sulfuric acid and analyzed analytically. An overview about the residual concentrations of Hg, Ag and Cr of the individual ver drive after reduction and alkalization are shown in Table 1 to take.
Ascorbic acid, glucose and sodium sulfite are excluded as suitable reducing agents due to the high residual chromium content. Although the use of sodium thiosulfate enables lower limit values, sulfur, which is partly coloidal, makes metal separation more difficult. The reaction also releases hydrogen sulfide and SO 2 . Iron sulfate must be added in large quantities, which leads to an increase in the amount of waste.
The best results are achieved by adding iron. The residual concentrations are within the required range and the separability of the metals is correspondingly good.
Nach Sedimentation wird das gebildete Amalgam abgetrennt.175 kg of COD waste solution are diluted 1: 4 with water and with Iron powder gradually up to a redox potential of -490 mV offset against NHE. A total of 330 g of iron powder are used det. After sedimentation, the amalgam formed is separated off.
The solution is brought to pH = 12 with 50% KOH solution set. The precipitate (chromium and iron hydroxide) is abge separates. For the further utilization of mercury and silver, this will be Amalgam neutralized and dried.
The remaining alkaline potassium sulfate solution is not contaminated sulfuric acid adjusted to a pH of 7 and supplied to the processing industry after an analysis.
