peraturen, z. B. zwischen 40° und dem Siedepunkt,
durchgeführt, weist der erhaltene Polyvinylalkohol
häufig eine Gelb- bis Braunfärbung auf. Arbeitet man
Gels. Während dieser Gelbildungsstufe muß die Re-
aktionsmischung gerührt «-erden, was eine starke
Rühranlage und einen großen Kraftverbrauch er-
fordert.
gangen.
Die Erfindung betrifft ein verbessertes Verfahren
zur Herstellung von vorzugsweise im wesentlichen
farblosem Polyvinylalkohol durch Umsetzung eines
Polyvinylesters mit einem Alkohol unter vollständiger
oder fast vollständiger Vermeidung der Bildung eines
viskosen Gels während der Alkoholysestufe, gegebe-
nenfalls in kontinuierlicher Verfahrensweise.
Hierzu fügt man ebenfalls kon-
fernen.
ge`vonnen.
Die von dem zweiten Reaktionsgefäß stammende
Aufschlämmung wird abgezogen und zu einem Filter
geführt, um den suspendierten Polyvinylalkohol abzu-
trennen.

digkeit.
entfernen. Im allgemeinen ist eine Lösungsmittel-
entfernung von 15 bis 25% wirksam. Verdampft man
viel Zeit beanspruchen soll.
lösliche Polyvinylacetatkonzentration so niedrig ge-
löslichen Polyvinylacetats in methanolunlöslichen
etwa 0,1 Gewichtsprozent, d. h. etwa 0,1 Gewichts-
prozent der flüssigen Anteile der Reaktionsmischung,
absinken.
vorzugt.
vinylacetat ausmachen. Größere Methanolmengen, z. B.
bis zu 16 Gewichtsteile pro Gewichtsteil umzusetzen-
des Polyvinylacetat, können verwendet werden. Be-
vorzugt werden etwa 2 bis 4 Gewichtsteile Methanol
pro Gewichtsteil Polyvinylacetat. In manchen Fällen
aktionsmischung verdampfende Methanolmenge be-
Gewöhnlich fügt man jedoch
die ganze Menge dem ersten Gefäß zu.
Als Katalysator werden Alkalialkoholate, vorzugs-
%veise Natriummethylat (C H3 O Na), verwendet. Der
Katalysator wird in Form einer wasserfreien Me-
thanollösung zugeführt. Es wird aus Natrium und
überschüssigem wasserfreiem Methanol hergestellt.
Als Katalysator können alle Alkalialkoholate, z. B.
Kaliumäthylat, Lithi.umbutylat, Natriumpropylat, Na-
triumbutylat u.
1 Mol Alkoholatkatalvsator unwirksam macht.
Mitunter arbeitet man so,
vinylalkoholteilchen in Suspension bleiben.
So besteht z. B. bei einem normalen
Reaktionsverlauf die Kondensationsflüssigkeit aus
43% Methylacetat und 57% Methanol, während das
zurückgeführte Filtrat 15% Methylacetat und 851/(>
Methanol enthält. Bei diesem Verfahren wird trotz
der Wiederzufuhr des Filtrats so viel Methylacetat
aus der Reaktionsmischung verdampft, daß sich nur
eine niedrige Methylacetatkonzentration bildet und
bei relativ niedrigem Katalysatorverbrauch eine gute
Ausbeute an qualitativ hochwertigem Poly vinylalkohol
reagieren. Die methanolisrihe Polyvinylacetatlösung
besteht aus 850 g Methanol und 150 g Polyvinylacetat
(Viskosität 50cP, gemessen bei 20° als molareLösung
in Benzol). Nach Beendigung der Reaktion wird die
Polyvinylalkoholaufschlämmung in dem Kolben mit
Eisessig neutralisiert und filtriert. Der erhaltene
trockene Polvvinylalkohol weist eine gelblichweiße
bis cremige Farbe auf. Die 10%ige wäßrige Lösung
ist leuchtendgelb bis leichtorange gefärbt.
Beispiel 4
Die im Beispiel 3 beschriebene Apparatur wird ver-
wendet, um die Dämpfe abzuführen. Die Reaktion
wird: mit den Reaktionsteilnehmern von Beispiel 3
durchgeführt, aber zusätzliches lfetlianol verwendet.
Die Polym-erlösung wird unter Rühren innerhalb von
2 Stunden zusammen mit 500 g zusätzlichem Me-
thanol in -den Reaktionskolben eingeführt und noch
30 Minuten nach Beendigung der Zugabe auf Siede-
temperatur genhalben. Während der gesamten Zeit
wird ein Destillat mit einer Geschwindigkeit von
5 g/Min. entfernt. Der Kolbeninhalt wird dann mit
Eisessig neutralisiert und der Polvvinylalkohol ab-
filtriert.
Hydrolyse bestimmten Alkoholen zuzusetzen.
Process for the production of polyvinyl alcohol The invention relates to the production of poly
vinylalkahol by alcohol se of a polyvinyl ester.
The production of polyvinyl alcohol by reacting
tion of a polyvinyl ester, e.g. B. Polyvinyl acetate with
a hydrolyzing alcohol, e.g. B. Etha-
nol or methanol in the presence of a catalyst
for hydrolysis, for which a strong acid or a
strong base can be used is known (cf.

in which the polyvinyl alcohol is insoluble, that will be

If the reaction is carried out with alkali alcohol or similar
alcoholic catalysts at elevated temperatures

often a yellow to brown color. One works
on the other hand at low temperature, especially around

remains below the alcoholysis rate, thus the
