Description
The The invention relates to contact materials based on silver-iron-copper and electrical switch contacts made therefrom.
Werkstoffe für elektrische Kontakte der Energietechnik bestehen in der Regel aus Silber und bestimmten metallischen und/oder oxidischen Zusätzen und werden überwiegend auf pulvermetallurgischem Wege hergestellt.materials for electrical Contacts of power engineering are usually made of silver and certain metallic and / or oxidic additives and are predominantly produced by powder metallurgy.
The Application profile of such contact materials becomes relevant of the switching device type, the height of the Switching current and the type of electrical load determined. From the Operating conditions are general demands for low electrical wear, So high erosion resistance and low welding force at simultaneously low contact resistance.
For contactors of low-voltage / high-current technology switching on air, the use of materials based on silver-tin oxide dominates in the switching current range of 100 to 3,000 A. For maximum switching currents in the range 10 3 to 10 5 A are preferably the composite materials Ag / W, Ag / WC and Ag / C use. At lower switching currents up to 100 A, Ag-Ni materials with around 10 to 40% nickel are dominant.
Derartige Kontaktwerkstoffe weisen in ihrem jeweiligen spezifischen Einsatzbereich eine akzeptable Abbrandfestigkeit sowie eine ausreichende Sicherheit gegenüber Einschaltverschweißungen und vergleichsweise geringe Materialwanderung bei gleichzeitig niedrigem Kontaktwiderstand und günstigem Übertemperaturverhalten sowie praxisgerechte Verarbeitungs- und Fügeeigenschaften auf.such Contact materials point in their respective specific field of application an acceptable erosion resistance and sufficient safety across from Einschaltverschweißungen and comparatively low migration of material at the same time low Contact resistance and favorable over-temperature behavior as well as practical processing and joining properties.
The Improvement of the processing and contact properties of these Contact materials and the extension of their scope of application is permanent Motivation for further material and technology developments. There are variations metallic and oxidic additives and manufacturing technology in the foreground.
The Selection in particular of the oxide components was predominantly with the goal of improving the said contact properties, ie the reduction of the specific burnup, the contact resistance, the overtemperature as well as the welding force and welding frequency, as a condition for high load capacity, durability and reliability of the contact system.
Typische Zusätze für Kontaktwerkstoffe auf Siberbasis sind beispielsweise CdO, SnO2, ZnO, Fe2O3, W, WC und Graphit.Typical additives for Siber-based contact materials are, for example, CdO, SnO 2 , ZnO, Fe 2 O 3 , W, WC and graphite.
These primarily affect the erosion resistance and the tendency to weld depending on the field of application (strength of the switching current, DC / AC, Switches type) selected. to Improvement of the opposite the pure silver mostly poorer over-temperature behavior of these materials sometimes additional additives are used.

Usual process technologies for the production of contact materials based on silver are the powder metallurgical mixing technique, the internal oxidation of alloy powders or compact bodies under increased Oxygen partial pressure and the chemical-reductive precipitation of individual or all components of the material or material.
The powder metallurgical mixing technology includes mechanical homogenization of solid feedstocks in powder form, mostly only of silver and the additive, but often also other additives or sintering aids, in a mixer. The method can be both dry and wet (about with water, alcohol, etc.), but is limited on powder with particle sizes of greater than 1 μm.
The internal oxidation is a process in which the formation of the oxide additive either on a melt-atomized alloy powder or on the powder metallurgy or Schmelzmet Metallur gisch produced final product takes place. This technique is most widely used in Ag-CdO materials. However, this can only be used with the aid of special further measures for the other typically used oxides. If oxidation phenomena are successfully prevented, which can lead to the passivation of the process, oxide particles with particle sizes of around 100 nm can be set.
This can either be the full precipitation of all material components, including oxides, or it turns silver into a watery one solution Suspended suspended components. at The first variant is the self-adjusting distribution of the components dependent from the reaction kinetics. In the second variant, the particle size of the suspended Determining components for the microstructural fineness of the final product.
The mentioned different methods cause process different structural formations of metallic and oxidic Phases in the silver matrix and thus significant changes the structure dependent Material and thus the processing and the contact properties, the size and tendency are hardly predictable.
The especially for the use in the lower switching current range, in particular to about 100 A, designed and still dominant AgNi materials are now for reasons of environmental and health protection considered to be of concern and need therefore of replacement by harmless but technically possible equivalent contact materials.
Out In the prior art alternative materials to the AgNi materials known. These are based on the silver-iron system and can be metallic and additional oxide components.

The technical applications such contact materials, which are preferably based on the system silver-iron-copper, are mostly very limited, because individual, on a case by case different contact properties the requirement profile of the switching device technology not or only conditionally suffice. This mainly concerns insufficient over-temperature behavior due to the formation of resistance increasing Surface layers and too low erosion resistance under special Load conditions. For the further development of these materials is therefore a special one Requirement.
Of the The present invention was therefore based on the task Nickel-free contact materials based on silver-iron for the switching current range up to maximum 100 A find the disadvantages of the known alternatives to usual AgNi contact materials and not in terms of erosion resistance, welding reliability, Contact resistance, overtemperature and processing properties that are common in this field of application AgNi materials are at least comparable and in particular with respect to the over-temperature behavior have better properties than known Ag-Fe-Cu systems.
Especially It was an object of the present invention, nickel-free contact materials based on silver-iron-copper for provide the switching current range up to a maximum of 100 A, with respect to the overtemperature behavior have better properties than that disclosed in EP-B-0 294 693 Silver-iron material.
Trotz dieser Komplexität konnten überraschenderweise geeignete, jedoch relativ eng tolerierte Werkstoffzusammensetzungen im System Ag-Fe-Cu gefunden werden, die dem zitierten Anforderungsprofil hinsichtlich Abbrandfestigkeit, Übertemperatur, Verschweißsicherheit und Verarbeitungseigenschaften entsprechen.investigations have shown that the Effect of the individual components in materials based on Ag-Fe on the contact behavior in size and tendency is very different. Despite this complexity, surprisingly, suitable, however, relatively tightly tolerated material compositions in the system Ag-Fe-Cu can be found, which respects the cited requirement profile Erosion resistance, overtemperature, welding reliability and processing properties.
Surprised it was found that with new contact materials based on silver-iron-copper and optionally other oxidic additives, containing 2 to 5 wt .-% iron and 5 to 10 wt .-% copper, wherein The relationship the contents of copper to iron are in the range of 1.5 to 3, significant improvements regarding the contact properties can be achieved.
The invention thus relates to contact materials based on silver-iron-copper and optionally further oxidic additives, characterized they are 2 to 5 wt .-% iron and 5 to 10 wt .-% copper, wherein The relationship the content of copper to iron is in the range of 1.5 to 3.
Das Verhältnis der Gehalte von Kupfer zu Eisen liegt vorzugsweise im Bereich von 1,8 bis 2,3.systematic Studies on ternary Material variants of the system silver-iron-copper have shown that with increasing iron content the erosion resistance in the desired Way increases while at the same time the overtemperature undesirable with 8 to 9 K /% Fe increases: By contrast, by addition of copper, the wettability of the silver-rich surface on the contact surface Promotes melting phase, at about constant specific burnup the overtemperature surprising lowered by about 4 K /% Cu at medium iron levels. From the different Effect of elements iron and copper on the overtemperature behavior follows for the Temperature compensation in the system Ag-Fe-Cu with contents of 2 to 5 wt .-% iron and 5 to 10 wt .-% copper the empirical relation that in a optimized contact material of this genus the ratio of Content of copper to iron should be in the range of 1.5 to 3. Due to the fact that at for high copper contents the specific burnup and the contact resistance As a result of the formation of oxide layers, the copper content should increase Do not exceed 10%. The relationship The contents of copper to iron is preferably in the range of 1.8 to 2.3.
It will the total oxide content is such that the direct ability to join the contact materials by resistance welding on conventional copper materials as contact support guaranteed is.
The Composition of the materials according to the invention results from the experimental finding that the overtemperature behavior of Ag-Fe-Cu materials is particularly favorable when the ratio of Copper to iron is about 2. Still not for use in all small shooters (smaller 100 A rated current) sufficient erosion resistance can after Setting the optimal ratio and proportions of Cu and Fe by the addition of limited amounts Oxides are compensated. There are two different ones influences of the oxide in the foreground, viz on the one hand, the effect of the oxide as a burn-reducing additive, and on the other hand its thermodynamic stability in the presence of as Reducing agent acting iron. A selection of oxides after the the former effect is about zinc oxide, iron oxide, tin oxide, copper oxide, Gallium oxide, cerium oxide, yttrium oxide, and indium oxide, tin oxide, copper oxide, Gallium oxide, cerium oxide, yttrium oxide and indium oxide. The selection after however, the second effect is limited, depending on the manufacturing conditions, essentially on zinc oxide, iron oxide and indium oxide. The to be added Amount of oxide is achieved by the increase in the erosion resistance and given the upper limit applicable weldability of the contact piece and is conveniently at 0.05 to 5 wt.%.
On Reason of insolubility of iron and the oxide additives in silver are suitably These materials are manufactured using powder metallurgical technologies. It is possible in a conventional manner to mix all components in powder form and then by pressing, sintering, extrusion and further shaping to process.
The materials of the invention are in the subsequent contact material according Men Advantageous ratio, by dry mixing of the powder produced. In this case, powders of silver, iron and copper with D 50 particle size values between 5 and 50 μm and preferably with 20 μm are used. The oxide powder, preferably zinc oxide, iron oxide, and indium oxide, is used in with D 50 grain size values of 1-5 microns. The processing into profiles and wires, which are fixed directly to the carrier by resistance welding, is carried out by cold isostatic pressing to produce a bolt, sintering the bolt and hot extrusion. The cold isostatic pressing is typically carried out at 800 bar. The sintering of the bolt is advantageously carried out over a period of about 2 hours at 800 ° C under a protective gas atmosphere.
Of the Property advantage over the materials described in the prior art results from the comparison with the usual almost exclusively used Ag-Ni materials. It has been shown here that with the materials according to the invention at least the same good switching properties can be achieved. It are hereby replacement materials for the health and ecological critical Ag-Ni provided the equivalent of the switching behavior are that with conventional Procedure and thus can be produced without cost disadvantage and which continues without additional Techniques such as plating, local reduction or other measures directly on the carrier can be applied.
Beispielexample
Materials according to the invention are produced by dry blending amounts of powders of silver, iron and copper having D 50 grain size values of 20 μm and oxide powders (zinc oxide, iron oxide) with particle sizes of approximately 1 μm in 6 kg batches corresponding to the material composition. The powder mixtures are cold-isostatically compressed to a pin at 800 bar, sintered at 800 ° C. for 2 hours under a protective gas atmosphere and subsequently produced by hot extrusion as a profile. The materials produced in this way were tested under AC-1 and AC-3 switching load in accordance with DIN VDE 0660 and the overtemperature behavior and burning behavior were investigated as a function of the composition. As a comparison, an Ag-Ni material containing 20% by weight of Ni and two Ag-Fe materials of the prior art were prepared and examined in the same manner. Table 1 shows the corresponding test results of the AC-1 switching load (average excess temperature T u and specific burnup Δm) of Ag-Fe-Cu and Ag-Fe-Cu metal oxide materials according to the invention. It turns out that under the selected test conditions, the materials according to the invention essentially correspond to the material Ag-Ni20 used as standard and are improved at least in one of the two properties with respect to the Ag-Fe materials.
