Anwendungsgebiet der ErfindungField of application of the invention
The invention relates to a graphite tube cuvette with a coating of pyrolytic carbon and the method for producing this coating.
Such cuvettes are used in flameless atomic absorption spectrometry or in flameless atomic fluorescence spectrometry as sample carriers and for generating the required high temperatures.
Charakteristik der bekannten technischen LösungenCharacteristic of the known technical solutions
To measure the absorbance, the sample to be analyzed must, if possible, be completely converted into atomic vapor.
In the flameless excitation preferably Rohröfon or tube furnaces are inserted with inserted platform, which consist of Kohlenstoffwerkötoffen. In this the analysis substance is introduced; then they are heated in direct current passage to the atomization temperature. The most commonly used carbon material for graphite tube cuvettes is high purity electrographite.
However, electrographites are porous owing to their "carbon ceramic" production, the porosity being very much dependent on the production process and subject to great variations even within one production batch, as a result of which porosity penetrates the heating substrate differently and with poor reproducibility.
As a consequence of this material property, significant sensitivity losses as well as signal disturbances can occur. Also, the wear of such Küvetton is very high.
Die wichtigste Maßnahme betrifft verschiedene Möglichkeiten zur weitgehend flüssigkeitsdichten Versiegelung der Oberfläche der Verdampfungsunterlage durchVarious proposals have been made to eliminate these disadvantages. The most important measure concerns various possibilities for largely liquid-tight sealing of the surface of the evaporation base by
- Aufbringen pyrolytischer Kohlenstoff-Deckschichten ,Application of pyrolytic carbon overlays,
- Aufbringen karbidischer Kohlenstoff-Deckschichten- Application of carbide carbon cover layers
- Aufbringen von Kohlenstoff-Karbid-Verbund- bzw. Kombinationsschichten.- Application of carbon-carbide composite or combination layers.
Carbide as well as combined carbide facings are very difficult to produce with the required reproducibility, nor can they be used for the analysis of the particular element used for carbide formation, and they can also cause interference in the determination of other refractory elements. Practical application have therefore found only graphite tube cuvettes with pyrolytic carbon cover layers. These are produced either by cold wall or by hot wall pyrolysis of carbon-containing compounds, mostly hydrocarbons. According to DE-OS 2025759 and DE-OS 2949476 introduced by hot wall pyrolysis in bulk bed Graphitröhrchen by 2 to 5maliges Umschichten with several, but at least 2 pyrolytic carbon layers successively to a total thickness of 30-30, preferably 30-40Mm, coated.
Furthermore, cuvettes made of solid vitreous carbon (DE-GM 7026502) and massive pyrography with a pyrocarbon coating (DE-OS 2949275) are known.
Due to their specific production, solid glassy carbon pipes can only be made from synthetic resins, which shrink strongly during thermal treatment, to the required tolerances with great difficulty and in an unreasonable manner. iheit received.
Pipes of solid pyrographite are also very expensive to manufacture, therefore, are not suitable for mass production and also require due to their very low resistance in the tube axis a very high ufheizstrom.
Gemäß WALKER (Chemistry and Physics of Carbon, Vol. I.) und BLACKMAN et al. (Proc. Roy. Soc, London, A 264 (1961) 19) erreicht die Funktion der Dichte in Abhängigkeit von der Abscheidetemperatur unabhängig von der Art der pyrolysierten Kohlenwasserstoffe bei 2200In all bekannton coating processes, a pyrocarbon layer is etched which has the highest possible crystalline orientation. The maximum achieved densities of the pyrocarbon layers are 2.22 g cm -3 . According to WALKER (Chemistry and Physics of Carbon, Vol. I.) and BLACKMAN et al. (Proc. Roy Soc, London, A 264 (1961) 19) achieves the function of the density as a function of the deposition temperature, regardless of the type of pyrolysed hydrocarbons at 2200
bzw. Carbon and Graphite papers, Conf. 1957, London 1958, S.86-100) ergaben Pyrographitschichton von 2,18 bis 2,22g cm"3.or 2100 0 C a plateau corresponding to a density of about 2.20 g cm word "third preliminary search of Smith and LEEDS (Modern Materials, Advences in Development and Applications [BWQouser, ed.] Vol. 7, Academic Press, New York , 1970, pp. 139-221) and BROWN and WATT (Ind., Carbon and Graphite papers, Conf. 1957, London 1958, pp. 86-100) gave pyrographite layer of 2.18 to 2.22 g cm -3 .
After a thermal treatment at 3300K hardly any change occurred in the already aligned pyrographite layer. The highest densities of Scnlchton were ever obtained here, and according to BROWN and WATT, individual values were even 2.23 g cm -3 .
For the 3300-K-treatment of these types of structures of the Niedortemporatur-pyrocarbon give JASIENKO and MACHNIKOWSKI (Carbon 19 (1981) pp 111.205) at maximum densities of 2,215g cm '. 3 Densities higher than 2.22g cm " 3 have until now been reproducible only by hot pressing of solid pyrographite, but the application of pressure to coated graphite tubes and platforms is not possible without their destruction General disadvantages of all previously proposed atomizer pads of solid pyrographite or with pyrolytic carbon docks are a remaining residual porosity and an increased reactivity associated with the above-mentioned misorientation of the crystallites, which no longer allows a further sensitivity increase.
The object of the invention is to produce graphite tubing and graphite platforms for use in flameless atomic absorption spectroscopy, which have a high sensitivity, are easy to produce in large series with high uniformity and have a high rewoveability.
The invention has for its object to provide the Atomisierungsunterlage with a pyrocarbon cover layer, so that a completely dense completion of the surface is achieved over the analysis solution, the surface throughout the temperature range has a very low reactivity to the analyte and a method for producing such Specify cover layers.
Hierbei wird das erfindungsgemäße Verfahren zur Herstellung der Deckschicht so gestouert, wobei poröse Graphitküvetten in einem Pyrokohlenstoff-Beschichtungsofen eingesetzt werden, daß die Einstellung eines Temperaturprofils erfolgt, welches im entscheidenden Temperaturbereich der Kohienwasserstofferwdrmung zwischen 115OK und der temperaturkonstanten Zone von 1500 bis 1530K der FunktionAccording to the invention, the object is achieved in that the Atomisierungsuntarlage, Graphitrohrküvette and / or the graphite platform, consists of porous Elektrographit and is provided on all sides with a pyrolytic carbon topcoat having a density of 2.225 to 2.260g cm " 3 and thereby pore free and very inert as possible In contrast to the previously customary practice, according to which a direct deposition of pyrocarbon with the highest possible degree of orientation is desired, according to the invention a pyrolytic layer is first deposited which has a low density but very high residual stresses the growing pyrocarbon crystallites are caused to one another and not or partly not by inclusions of carbon black and soot-like particles, whereby the process according to the invention for the production of the top layer is stamped like this, w obei porous graphite cuvettes are used in a pyrocarbon coating furnace, that the setting of a temperature profile is carried out, which in the crucial temperature range of Kohienwasserstofferwdrmung between 115OK and the temperature-constant zone of 1500 to 1530K the function
T(x) = 515 χ n T (x) = 515 n χ
mit η = 3,6...3,8 (für T in K und χ in cm) entspricht.with η = 3.6 ... 3.8 (for T in K and χ in cm).
By such a temperature profile, a sudden decomposition of the pyrolysis gas is avoided and thus reduces the number of germs for a possible soot formation in the gas phase to a minimum. The pyrocarbon layer thus deposited is converted in a subsequent annealing treatment at temperatures of 3250 to 3350K into a nearly monocrystalline pyrographic layer having a density of 2.225 to 2.260 g cm -1 This results in cuvettes or platforms with layers of high density and dramatically improved properties that significantly increase the sensitivity in flameless atomic absorption spectroscopy.
The invention will be explained in more detail using an exemplary embodiment for 2 density values of the pyrocarbon layer. Under otherwise identical conditions, the analytical sensitivity was compared using commercially available pyrolytically coated tubes and tubes of the invention having densities of the pyrolytic carbon layer of 2.225 and 2.260 g cm -3 for the determination of 10ppbNi, 100ppbTi and 50pph V in each of 1NHNO 3 .
