Anwendungsgebiet der ErfindungField of application of the invention
It can also be worked up by known Calcinations- or sintering process to high quality MgO-Kaustern or -Sintern. The resulting chlorine has the purity known from chloralkali electrolysis.
The previously proposed process variants mainly provide cells in which the anode and the cathode compartment is separated by a separation system. As separation systems ceramic diaphragms (DT 719169), asbestos diaphragms (DD 60295) and ion-permeable diaphragms (DE 975165, DD G2819) are proposed. Proposals without separation medium (DT 275617, DT 297874, DE 1010954, DE 2023751) can technically be regarded as unrealisable. In most process proposals (DT 719169, DD 60 295), the electrolysis is carried out in discontinuous operation. However, batch reactors are technically meaningless. The fact that the electrolysis of MgCl 2 solutions was not technically realized worldwide is likely to be mainly due to the fact that it has not been successful so far, related to the occurring solid in the cathode chambers
The problems arising from the solid consist mainly in the fact that the cathode is covered with Mg (OH) 2 and the discharge of the high-molecular weight hydroxide is associated with difficulties. In order to avoid cathode encrustation, the following measures are proposed in the literature:
- hohe katodische Stromdichten (DD 60295)- high cathodic current densities (DD 60295)
- rüttelbare Katoden (DE 2060066)- vibratable cathodes (DE 2060066)
- Zusatz von Alkalichloriden zur MgCI2-Lösung (DE 2060066).- Addition of alkali chlorides to the MgCl 2 solution (DE 2060066).
But this does not solve the problem of filtration of the Mg (OH) 2 suspension.
It is proposed in patents DT 719169 and DD 60295 to add magnesium sulfate and / or formaldehyde to the catholyte in order to improve the filtration behavior of the Mg (OH) 2 suspensions. The use of these substances leads to an increase in costs, burdening the electrolyte circuit, so that in the further processing of the filtrate disturbances could occur, affects the anode process and contaminates the solid.
Ziel der ErfindungObject of the invention
The aim of the invention is to improve the quality of the electrochemically produced Mg (OH) 2 without additional purification and process stages, and at the same time to reduce the expense for its production.
Darlegung des Wesens Her ErfindungPresentation of the essence of her invention
The invention is based on the technical object of developing a process which is as simple and economically favorable as possible for the production of Mg (OH) 2 , which makes it possible to produce a readily filterable Mg (OH) 2 in an electrolytic cell to be operated continuously, which precipitates easily remove the cell and in which no encrustation of the cathode occurs.
According to the invention the technical object is achieved in that in a Diaphragmazelle with separate Anolyt- and KaicMdurchlauf the electrolysis is carried out so that the anode space a nearly saturated alkali chloride solution is zugffünrt and the Katodenrrum a Mg 2+ -lonenhaltige solution, in particular a Mg 2+ Lime containing alkali chloride, is added, the carbonate ions in the form of soluble salts with contents> 1.5 g CO 3 2 ~ / I contains that a ratio of the current strength to Katodenraumvolumen of 18kA / m 3 must not be exceeded and that set the electrolysis conditions so be that a cloud density of 20-15Og Mg (OH) 2 /! adjusted, wherein the MgCl 2 content of the supplied solution can be depleted to any value.
Die Carbnnat-Ionen im Katolyton bewirken eine Verbesserung der Filtration der Mg(OH)2-Suspension. Als besonders geeignet erweisen sich Ammoniumhydrogencarbonat, Ammoniumcarbonat, Natriumhydrogencarbonat, Natriumcarbonat, Kaliumhydrogencarbonat und Kaliumcarbonat. The carbanion ions in the catholyte cause an improvement in the filtration of the Mg (OH) 2 suspension. Particularly suitable are ammonium bicarbonate, ammonium carbonate, sodium bicarbonate, sodium carbonate, potassium bicarbonate and potassium carbonate.
For a given cathode volume, the flow rate of the catalytic solution solution and the area of the cathode can be calculated according to the following equation, and the electrolysis cell can then be designed:
