Description
Anwendungsgebiet dor ErfindungField of application of the invention
The invention relates to a process for producing dry membranes using a special carrier material for use in the material separation processes ultrafiltration and reverse osmosis, in particular in water treatment, medical technology, food industry, chemical industry and microbiology.
Charakteristik des bekannten Standes der TechnikCharacteristic of the known state of the art
It is known that asymmetric membranes for material separation processes are still delivered mainly humid initial, because a drying of the membranes in the air due to the case of many membrane-forming polymers thereby observed collapse of the porous membrane structure, while losing the favorable transmembrane separation properties, only very expensive complicated drying process is possible (DE-OS 2059048, GB-PS 1276152, JP-PS 90664/75, JP-PS 146274/78, US-PS 3772072). Frequently, the use of special agents, such as. B. glycerol. This should additionally be! encountered the said drying processes extremely adverse embrittlement of the membranes to a certain extent. The remaining in the membranes agents such. As said glycerol, often prove in various processing processes of the membranes, z. As in a surface modification, because of unwanted competition reactions as unacceptable or at least as annoying and must therefore in such cases by z.T. consuming processes are removed again. Attempts to overcome these disadvantages by special membrane-forming processes, bypassing the usual coagulation or precipitation process in water (REKesting in "Synthetic Polymeric Membranes A Structural Perspective" J. Wiley [New York] 1985, p.238ff.), Have become can not enforce on an industrial scale.
Der Nachteil dieserFurthermore, the use of various porous support materials, e.g. Paper, metal mesh, sintered metal plates, textile fabrics, nonwovens and the like, described (DE-OS 2342226; DD-AS 81213; DD-PS 228452), to thereby obtain mechanically more stable composite membranes. Preferably polyester fabrics and nonwoven fabrics were used, which were coated with the mainly used membrane polymers cellulose acetate and polysulfone. The disadvantage of this
Composite membranes also consist of either dan. Reasons stored in the (Inltlal) moist state, transported, processed and used or dried in the already described complicated way and, because of the remaining disadvantages for certain processes of further processing, such. B. chemical modification, must be post-treated consuming.
As a result of the resulting high degree of projection there is no separate, z. B. with glycerol, treated, but otherwise produced by the said processes and then air-dried membranes another significant disadvantage in that their direct processing or even the whole membrane bands, e.g. to Membranmoduln, is not possible, and that the membranes incurred in the fully deformed state, which in many cases, for. B. when using polysulfone as a coating material, even after rewet dsr membrane is not reversible. Due to its very high shrinkage tendency, most of the disadvantages mentioned are particularly serious when used as the polymeric upper layer of such composite membranes forming material cellulose acetate. Thus, such, not especially, z. B. with glycerol, treated composite membranes are basically used only in the initial wet state, since L i a simple air drying because of the irreversibly associated total structural breakdown of the polymeric upper layer, d. H. so that the separation-active layer, such membranes due to their indisputably poor performance parameters, in particular with regard to the achievable Filtratstromleistung, and their extremely high degree of embrittlement and deformation - even if the deformation of the membrane after rewetting is reversible - are no longer suitable for material separation processes.
Ziel der ErfindungObject of the invention
The invention has the aim of developing a technically simple and economically favorable process, after using a special support material and based on cellulose acetate as the polymeric upper layer forming material, dry membranes produced and despite the drying advantageous for the separation processes ultrafiltration and reverse osmosis can be used.
Darlegung des Wesens der ErfindungExplanation of the essence of the invention
The invention has for its object to develop a process for the production of dry membranes using a special support material and application of a simple air drying, which, based on cellulose acetate as the polymeric top layer forming material, to non-deformed, dry membranes, their permeation properties , re-wetting before or during their use in the separation processes ultrafiltration and reverse osmosis with which (initially) moist membranes of the same type are comparable before the drying process and which have advantageous processing properties in the dry state. The object has surprisingly been achieved according to the invention that as a special support material by a special process {eg DD-PS 211370) without binder, by hydrodynamic Faserstoffverwirbelung, with simultaneous solidification produced and additionally calendered polyester nonwoven fabric with a basis weight of 20 to 150g / m 2 , preferably 30 to 100 g / m 2 , uniform tensile strength and low elongation in all directions, with great softness and suppleness under control with a usual for such membranes casting solution based on cellulose-2,5-acetate and a concentration of 8 to 15 according to the invention % By weight for ultrafiltration membranes and 12-18% by weight for reverse osmosis membranes, is treated so that, by adjusting the thickness of the cast film by 50 to 600% stronger than the thickness of the particular support material, the specific support material of the polymeric casting solution is just saturated will and and on the other hand, after a flash-off time of the applied polymeric casting solution of 5 to 60 seconds and subsequent precipitation in a conventional aqueous coagulation bath, the polymeric topcoat formed thereby, ie the membrane matrix including the release active layer, in a thickness of at least B to 50% from its outer boundary surface , is present in completely non-woven, homogeneous form. According to the method of the invention, the (initially) moist membrane material for producing reverse osmosis membranes is first subjected to a known hot water treatment and then, with uniform fixation of the edges, at a temperature of 15 ° C up to a temperature of 30 ° C below the Glass transition membrane of Celluloso-2,5-acetate in water, dried in air. For the production of ultrafiltration membranes, the membrane material obtained after the precipitation is dried in the air directly in the stated manner without hot water treatment. It has proven to be particularly advantageous to use a sufficiently heavy metal frame for edge fixing in the case of discontinuous production, a known drying cylinder in continuous production and the actual air drying of the membrane preferably with an accelerating pre-dewatering step, using highly absorbent material such. As nonwoven paper, with uniform fixation of the edges and a temperature of 15 ° C to a temperature of 30 ° C below the glass transition temperature of the cellulose 2,5-acetate in water to combine.
Another advantage of the method according to the invention is that not only the desired type of membrane can be set per se by the mentioned type of variation of the casting solution concentration and the different aftertreatment (hot water treatment and / or drying), but also a substantial differentiation in the concrete permeation properties is possible ,
The membranes produced by the process according to the invention have, after rewet before or during their use in the separation processes ultrafiltration and reverse osmosis, permeation properties which correspond to those (initially) wet membranes of the same type. In addition to excellent mechanical stability, the membranes are surprisingly not embrittled and not deformed and can therefore be handled advantageously in the dry state and even processed directly as a membrane tape.
B. chemische Modifizierungen, sind ohne besondere Vorbehandlungsmaßnahmen an den Membranen durchführbarSince they are also frol of interfering additives, such membranes can be used particularly advantageous for special purposes. Also further processing, such. As chemical modifications are feasible without special pre-treatment measures on the membranes
The inventive method will be explained in more detail with reference to the following embodiments.
