Description
1. Anschwemmfiltration unter Anwendung von Graphit oder Aktivkohle als Filterhilfsmittel, wobei sowohl die drucklose als auch die Druckfiltration vorgeschlagen wurden.1. precoat filtration using graphite or activated carbon as a filter aid, both the non-pressure and the pressure filtration have been proposed.
Here are the achievable residual contents in the treatment of soda fresh liquor from the Chloralkalielektrolyse at about 0.1 ppm, while When applying the precoat filtration to the purification of technical potash, a residual content of about 1-2 ppm remains in the liquor. These residual contents are presently known as ionoganic mercury and are not detectable by precoat filtration.
Other known Entquickungsmethoden based on the removal of the metallic mercury by stripping method, wherein at temperatures of about 80 ° C, the Hg content of a sodium hydroxide solution by blowing with nitrogen or air within 30 minutes of 10ppm are reduced to 0.8ppm can (DE-OS 2,218,968). The effectiveness of this method can be considerably improved if the gas stream is divided into very small bubbles during the blow-out process by intensive stirring (US Pat. No. 3,764,496).
The ability of mercury to form amalgams with less noble metals is exploited according to the proposal of US Pat. No. 3,039,865. Dilute alkali solutions are passed through columns with metal shavings (Cu, Zn and the like), whereupon the solution is largely disenchanted. For the purification of concentrated alkalis, this method is not suitable because of the incoming hydrogen evolution.
Proposals for the removal of ionic mercury from caustic lye are disclosed in U.S. Patent Nos. 3,764,496 and 4,724,496
DE-OS 2.218.968 gemacht, in denen das ionogene Quecksilber zunächst durch Zusatz von Reduktionsmitteln zu metallischem Quecksilber reduziert und anschließend durch Stripping bzw. durch mehrfaches Verdünnen und Eindampfen der Alkalilaugen entfernt werden ka.-.n, wobei Restwerte an Hg < 0,05ppm erreicht werden.DE-OS 2,218,968 made in which the ionic mercury is first reduced by the addition of reducing agents to metallic mercury and then removed by stripping or by repeated dilution and evaporation of the alkali lye ka .-. N, with residual values of Hg <0, 05ppm can be achieved.
However, such a procedure is economically unacceptable because of the high energy cost of a multiple dilution and evaporation process. Also, stripping with nitrogen is economically unacceptable because of the high cost, while stripping the liquor with air results in undesirable carbonate precipitations.
The aim of the invention is a complete removal of Hg impurities from alkali liquors obtained by chloralkali electrolysis according to the amalgam process by a combination of the reduction of the ionic Hg fraction to metallic mercury followed by a filtration process.
-2- 294 469 Darlegung des Wesens der Erfindung-2- 294 469 Presentation of the Essence of the Invention
It has now been found that alkali lye, which is obtained by the amalgam process electrolytically from chlorides and in addition to finely dispersed metallic impurities also contain mercury in ionic form, completely de-saturated, if they the reducing effect of less noble metals, especially iron or läbestbeständigen Fe-. Alloys or other reducing agents are subjected to temperatures above 40 0 C and then the resulting finely dispersed mercury particles are completely separated by a multi-stage filtration or circulation filtration through a finely divided precoat layer of graphite.
This phenomenon is surprising insofar as well as according to the currently known state of the art such finely dispersed mercury particles, as they result in the reduction of ionogenic mercury in concentrated alkali solutions, could previously be removed only by complicated stripping processes or by repeated dilution and evaporation from the liquor while the application of the usual precoat filtration with finely divided graphite as the precoat filter layer, it was not possible to completely remove the mercury, in particular from potassium hydroxide solution. The multi-stage precoat filtration or filtration with recycling of the filtrate according to the invention is based on the finding that, as the mercury-containing liquor passes through the capillaries of the precoat filter layer, the agglomeration of the fine mercury droplets results in agglomeration of the fine mercury droplets, which then precipitate in the subsequent filtration stage can be. In this way, by repeatedly repeating the precoat filtration due to the pulse action and the associated droplet agglomeration in the FilUirschichtkapillaren complete removal of the finely dispersed Hg can be achieved from alkali solutions, if this was previously transferred by reduction of the ionic mercury content from the solution into the metal mold.
Die Auswahl der zur Anwendung kommenden Reduktionsmittel hängt dabei weitgehend von der vorgesehenen weiteren Verwendung der Alkalilauge ab.While using the application of a temperature of <40 ° C, the resulting Hg particles are fine, so that a plurality of filtration stages or circuits are necessary for the deposition in the Graphitanschwemmschicht, performing the reduction of the ionic mercury content above 40 ° C. to Hg dispersions, which can be deposited by two to three filtration stages or cycles of the filtrate in the Graphitanschwemmschicht. The reducing agent used may preferably be those base metals which are substantially resistant to concentrated alkali liquors, such as Fe or Fe-containing alloys or minor additions of from 0.03 to 0.1% in the form of aldehydes, sugars, sulfites or phosphites. The selection of reducing agents used depends largely on the intended further use of the alkali metal hydroxide solution.
DD-PS 200.736 ergibtThe conditions under which the precoat filtration according to the invention can be carried out over graphite layers in a multi-step sequence or by recirculating the liquor correspond to the prior art, as results in particular from DD-PS 139,068 or DD-PS 200,736
The invention will now be explained with reference to sines embodiment.
In a cartridge pressure filter with a filter surface of 0.2m 2 2kg graphite powder (TGL 12176) are washed with water and then 150kg / h conc. Potassium hydroxide solution with a Hg content of 10 ppm, which was previously mixed in a stirred tank with 0.1 mass fraction in% potassium bisulfite at 60 0 C, filtered through the approximately 1 cm thick precoat. The filtrate has a residual Hg level of 1 ppm after the first pass, which decreased to 0.15 ppm after a second pass. After the third pass a residual content of <0.05 ppm resulted (detection limit with AAS). The same result was obtained when the potassium hydroxide solution prior to the first filtration stage over a 50 cm thick layer consisting of iron turnings was passed at a rate of 100kg / h at 65 0 C.
