The first way is widely used industrially. The resulting cobalt aluminate is versatile as a color pigment z. As in porcelain paints, glazes, enamels and paints. However, it also has procedural shortcomings. The complete spinel formation reaction of the mechanically mixed powders requires long reaction times and / or high reaction temperatures. As a result of sintering processes in the material, this leads to the formation of hard and coarse reaction products which have to be pulverized again by a subsequent grinding treatment. However, the grinding process is always associated with the entry of impurities which can adversely affect the light reflection in the blue Farbberoich. In addition, it is extremely difficult in the prior art to produce finely divided powders with particle sizes of less than or equal to 1 μm in this way. For these reasons, the production of cobalt aluminate from a common solution can be advantageous for obtaining phase-pure, one-part powders with high reflectivity in the blue color range. The solution can be sprayed directly into a hot chamber. Depending on the temperature in the chamber, only a drying of the material or even a decomposition of the salts and formation of cobalt aluminate takes place. Since the entire solution is dried in the first phase, the resulting powder also contains all non-volatile ingredients including the impurities. This method therefore requires as pure as possible starting materials. At the same time, with the fineness of the powders, the expense of depositing the products from the gas stream increases. The powder morphology is largely determined during spray drying by the design of the sprayer. When using highly viscous solutions of the alkoxy compounds of cobalt and aluminum, the decomposition of the solutions can be carried out directly without prior spray drying. This results in very homogeneous products whose spinel formation reaction could be lowered to temperatures of 650 ° C. Because of the high price of the alkoxy compounds, however, such variants of cobalt aluminate production have not been able to establish themselves. A common method for the preparation of homogeneous mixtures of several substances is the coprecipitation of a homogeneous solution. Co-precipitation requires that the components provide poorly soluble products under the process conditions. Cobalt compounds, however, give rise to complex formation with many conventional precipitating agents, such as those due to the strong tendency of the conjugate ions. B. ammonia difficulties. In a method which has become known (DE-OS 2840870), these difficulties are avoided by first precipitating co-hydroxide or cobalt carbonate from a cobalt salt solution by means of alkalis or soda. In the suspension thus formed, which should have a pH of 8, Boi temperatures between 50 and 9O 0 C at the same time an aluminum salt solution and an alkali or hydroxide solution is added so that during the formation of the aluminum precipitate, a pH of 6.9 to 7 is complied with. After filtration, drying and calcination of the precipitate at 1000 0 C, a transparent cobalt blue color pigment is obtained.
However, the process requires a rather complicated control by the two precipitation steps with different precipitation parameters. An optimal homogeneous distribution of Co and Al is not achievable, making complete spinel formation difficult. Another disadvantage of the method is that it works with alkali or soda solutions. It is to be expected that a portion of the alkali ions will be entrained in the precipitation, which are difficult or impossible to remove during the subsequent washing process or during the annealing. These have a negative effect on the optical properties of the powder.
The object of the invention is to provide a process in which a finely divided, powdery cobalt aluminate with complete spinel structure, high light reflection in the range of 450 nm and low light reflection around 600 nm is produced with low control effort and low process stage number.
Das Maximum der Lichtreflexion liegt bei Verwendung eines Molverhältnisses von Co:Oxalsäure = 0,5.The invention has for its object to provide a precipitation method, with dom of in-solution cobalt and aluminum compound without using alkali or soda solution, a pure precipitate can be obtained with homogeneous distribution of the two case components, after filtration, drying and calcination a finely divided, powdered cobalt aluminate with spinel structure and high light reflection in the blue color range provides. This object is inventively achieved in that an aqueous solution mixture of cobalt salt, aluminum salt and oxalic acid in the molar ratios Co: AI = 0.38: 1 to 0.44: 1 and COiC 2 O 2 = 1: 0.2 to 1: 0 , 8 and this is mixed with ammonia so that during the formation of the precipitate, a pH of 7 to 9 is maintained. The precipitate is separated, washed, dried and calcined at temperatures between 1000 0 C and 1400 0 C. The starting solution is stable over time without precipitation of the heavy cobaltous potassium oxalate. After the removal of the reddish precipitate, according to the process of the invention, a completely colorless filtrate is present, which indicates a complete precipitation of the cobalt. This is remarkable insofar as it is known that cobalt in the presence of ammonium ions tends to form easily soluble Co-II complexes and moreover by reaction with atmospheric oxygen to form very stable and readily soluble Co-III complexes. Obviously, the coprecipitation of aluminum hydroxide and basic cobalt oxalates leads to a solid adsorption of cobalt in the precipitate, which suppresses complex formation and oxidation. The use of substoichiometric amounts of oxalic acid to precipitate the cobalt simultaneously leads to an increase in the light reflection of the powder in the blue color range after the calcination to the aluminate. The maximum of the light reflection is when using a molar ratio of Co: oxalic acid = 0.5.
If a finely divided and waiches color pigment powder are prepared, in particular, the drying process is observed. By simply drying in air of the water-washed precipitate, a hardening of the powder particles or of the filter cake occurs. Advantageous here is the replacement of the water in the capillaries of the precipitate by organic solvents lower surface tension z. By alcohol or acetone. Similar results are achieved by the use of freeze-drying. The dry precipitate is finally calcined. The spinel phase is formed from about 1000 0 C at annealing times of 2 hours.
1 kg Co(NOj)2 6H2O und 3,1 kg AI(NO3I3 · 9H2O und 0,21 kg H2C2O4 · 3H2O worden in 30 Liter destilliertem Wasser bei Raumtemperatur gelöst. Die Lösung wird abgekühlt auf 10"C und gemeinsam mit konzentrierter Ammoniaklösung (25%g) langsam in ein gekühltes Reaktionsgefäß gegeben.1 kg of Co (NOj) 2 6H 2 O and 3.1 kg of Al (NO 3 I 3 .9H 2 O and 0.21 kg of H 2 C 2 O 4 .3H 2 O were dissolved in 30 liters of distilled water at room temperature. The solution is cooled to 10 "C and added slowly, together with concentrated ammonia solution (25% g), to a cooled reaction vessel.
The solution in the reaction vessel is stirred vigorously, the pH is controlled with a glass electrode. The ammonia addition is metered so that the pH varies within the limits between 7.8 and 8.2. After 90 minutes the felling process is finished. The consumption of ammonia solution is 1.45 liters. The pH after the precipitation is 8.0. From the Reaktionsgsfäß the precipitation suspension is now pumped onto a vacuum filter and filtered there. With 3 portions of distilled water to 1 liter of the filter cake is rinsed and frozen in aluminum trays in Gefn'ertrockenschrank to -2O 0 C and then dried in vacuo at an upper temperature of + 2O 0 C. The dry product is finally annealed at 1200 ° C in sintered corundum calcination shells for 2 hours. 615 g of cobalt aluminate with spinel phase, a specific surface area of 25 mVg and a light reflection at a wavelength of 470 nm of 76% are obtained.
