Abstract
Die Aminierung erfolgt anschliessend bei Temperaturen von 50 bis 100C.The invention relates to a process for the preparation of anion exchangers with polyol groups, which can be used, for example, for the selective separation and recovery of borates, gallates, arsenic compounds and tellurates from saline solutions. The anion exchangers are prepared from chlorometylated styrene-divinylbenzene copolymers by pre-swelling the chloromethyl compound prior to amination at room temperature with an aqueous solution of N-methylglucamine containing a water-miscible organic solvent as the swelling agent for the chloromethyl compound , The amination is then carried out at temperatures of 50 to 100C.
Description
Temperatures above 60 0 C with the aqueous, organic solvent-containing Zuckeraminlösung reacts, there is also a considerable destruction of the resin beads. An ion exchanger produced in this way is not suitable for industrial use in an ion exchange filter. Surprisingly, however, it has been found that the amination of a haloalkylated copolymer of mono- and polyvinyl aromatic compounds with a sugar amine in aqueous solution is possible if this solution contains a water-soluble organic, acting as a swelling agent for the halomethyl compound solvent, the halomethyl compound before the amination at temperatures of 5 to 50 0 C, preferably at room temperature, is preswollen with the solution and then aminated at temperatures of 50 to 100 0 C in the presence of an amination catalyst.
As water-soluble solvents, for example, dimethylformamide, dioxane, tetrahydrofuran or dimethyl sulfoxide can be used. Surprisingly, it has been found that it is not necessary to add to the aqueous phase the amount of organic solvent necessary for the maximum swelling of the halomethylate. Solvent quantities of from 20 to 75% by mass, based on the halogenated alkylated copolymer, are sufficient. As amination catalysts, the iodine compounds commonly used in the alkylation of amines can be used. In this case, alkali metal iodides are preferably used in an amount of from 0.1 to 1% by mass, based on the amount of halomethylate used.
The reaction of the halomethyl compound with the sugar amine is conveniently carried out by first dissolving the amine in water, adding the organic solvent and the amination catalyst, and then adding the halomethylate. Depending on the degree of crosslinking and the porosity Halogenmethylat is stirred for 1 to 5 hours at temperatures of 5 to 50 0 C, preferably at temperatures of 20 to 30 ° C. Subsequently, the amination is carried out by heating the suspension to 50 to 100 0 C, preferably 70 to 9O 0 C.
The reaction is completed, depending on the degree of crosslinking and porosity, after 4 to 12 hours. As crosslinked halomethyl compounds, the chloromethylates prepared in the synthesis of anion exchangers, usually from copolymers of mono- and polyvinylaromatic compounds, can be used. Copolymers of styrene and the crosslinker divinylbenzene prepared in suspension polymerization are preferably used, which are chloromethylated, for example, in the presence of a Friedel-Crafts catalyst with monochlorodimethyl ether. The copolymers can be of a gelatinous or porous structure in a known manner, but preference is given to the porous structure, as is customary in the preparation of weakly basic anion exchangers in general. The compounds used for the amination, referred to as sugar amines represent in their chemical nature polyhydroxyalkylamines. The alcoholic group has either the structure -C 6 He (OH) 5 or C 6 H 6 (OH) 4 . The most important amines with these functional groups belong to the class of sorbityl and manityl or arabityl and ribitylamines.
However, preference is given to using N-methylsorbithylamine, which is usually referred to in the literature as N-methylglucamine. As a result, the anion exchangers obtained in the amination have tertiary amino groups which impart weakly basic properties to the exchanger.
