Abstract
The invention relates to crystalline-liquid cholesteric mixtures for temperature measurement for the diagnosis of various diseases of humans and animals for the solution of technical problems, for the production of thermometers and for the permanent monitoring of the temperature of devices and equipment. The aim of the invention are mixtures for thermography with cholesteric liquid crystals. It has been found that esters of b-sitosterol in amounts of from 5 to 4% by weight in mixtures with esters of cholesterol are outstandingly suitable for the preparation of thermographic mixtures. The mixtures are versatile for temperature measurement, especially for surface temperature measurement (thermography).
Description
Bei vielen praktisch einsetzbaren Gemischen beträgt dabei das Meßintervall 1 bis 5K.It has already been proposed to use mixtures of cholesteryl esters for thermography / DE 2014909; DE 2018028; US 3619254; US 1161,039; US 3,441,513; DDR 102033, DDR 102545; DE 3205892; DDR 140358; DDR 156639 /. Furthermore, it has already been proposed (DDRWP 101977). Use mixtures based on cholesteryl esters with the addition of nematic substituted benzoic acid for thermography. Also Thermographiesubstanzen using derivatives of cholestanol (WP 148639) and a-methylcyclohexanone (WP 148676) have already been proposed. Since pure substances do not have the required properties, one is always forced to modify the properties in a desired manner by preparing suitable mixtures. For the composition of suitable mixtures therefore always new components with specific properties are needed. In thermography, one uses the property of the cholesteric state to selectively reflect the circularly polarized light of one sense of rotation within a temperature-dependent spectral region. In pure compounds and the previously known mixtures, the wavelength of the selectively reflected light decreases as the temperature increases, ie. At low temperatures, red, blue-violet light is selectively reflected at the highest temperatures available for measurement. The measuring range is limited by the temperature interval within which the selective reflection passes through the visible spectrum. In many practical mixtures while the measuring interval is 1 to 5K.
The aim of the invention are mixtures for thermography with cholesteric liquid crystals.
The object of the invention are cholesteric crystalline liquid substances which exhibit a temperature-dependent selective reflection of the light in thermographic mixtures at defined temperature ranges.
It has been found that esters of β-sitosterol in amounts of from 5 to 40% by weight in mixtures with esters of cholesterol are outstandingly suitable for the preparation of thermographic mixtures.
The partially novel derivatives of / 3-sitosterol are easy to prepare by methods known per se.
