Abstract
Triesters of phosphorous acids are versatile starting materials for the synthesis of various phosphorus compounds and are used, inter alia, for the preparation of crop protection, flame retardants and textile finishing agents. The aim of the invention is to find an economically advantageous process for the direct synthesis of Phosphorigsaeuretriester from elemental phosphorus, P4, or phosphine, PH3. It has been found that the title compounds are obtained in high yields in the reaction of elemental phosphors or PH3 with a polyhalohydrocarbon and an aliphatic alcohol or phenol or substituted phenol in the presence of an organic base in a polar aprotic solvent.

The main disadvantage of these processes is that alkali metal alcoholates (1.5 to 2.5 moles per mole of ester) are required and, in the case of the alkanols, they can only be prepared by reaction with the alkali metals themselves.
According to DD-PS 127188, moreover, only a mixture of di- and trialkyl phosphites, trialkyl phosphates and alkanephosphonic acid alkyl esters is obtained in which the proportion of trialkyl phosphite averages 27 mol%.
The method known from DD-PS 129329 aims to produce preferably a mixture of dialkyl phosphites and trialkyl phosphates. This is achieved by hydrolysis of primarily formed trialkyl phosphites. Trialkyl phosphite is not isolated by this method.
A process described in DD-PS 128718 starts from PH 3 instead of elemental phosphorus, which is reacted with the same reaction components. It arises almost quantitatively trialkyl phosphite.
According to DD-PS 152132, triphenyl phosphite can be prepared analogously from elemental phosphorus and according to DD-PS 206897 from PH 3 , if phenolate is used instead of alkanolate.
Another patent (DD 127187) protects the preparation of mixtures of phosphoric acid amides, ester amides and esters from elemental phosphorus by oxidation with carbon tetrachloride in the presence of proton-containing amines (primary or secondary amines or ammonia) and alcohols. It is assumed (K.-D. Hoffmann, Dissertation, TU Dresden, 1974) that the colorless phosphorus is degraded by reaction with the amine and thus it comes to the formation of PN and PH bonds. The latter are converted by CCI 4 into PC! Bonds, whose alcoholysis causes the formation of the esters. The decisive disadvantage of this process is that mixtures of the ester amides OP (NR 2 I 3 -x (OR) x with X = O-3 are always obtained whose content of trialkyl phosphates (x = 3) does not exceed 20% and does not isolate phosphorous acid esters become.
Ziel der ErfindungObject of the invention
The aim of the invention is to win triester of phosphorous acid without the use of an alcoholate in a reaction step in high yield and to find a new, economically more advantageous solution.
Darlegung des Wesens der Erfindung ~~Explanation of the essence of the invention ~~
The object of the invention is the development of a process for the preparation of triesters of phosphorous acid, which starts from elemental phosphorus or monophosphane, a Polyhälogenkohlenwasserstoff and an alcohol and provides the triester in good yield in only one step.
It has been found that triesters of the phosphorous acid of the general formula P (OR) 3 , in which OR stands for an aliphatic radical or for an unsubstituted or substituted aryl radical, directly from elemental phosphorus (P 4 ) or monophosphine (PH 3 ) by reaction with a Polyhälogenkohlenwasserstoff and an aliphatic, unsubstituted or substituted aromatic alcohol of the general formula ROH with the meaning explained for R in a polar aprotic solvent in the presence of an organic base (B) at temperatures between 0 and 15O 0 C in good yield. As Polyhälogenkohlenwasserstoff preferably carbon tetrachloride is used.
[4] und [5]).The formation reactions can be described by the following equations (Eqs. [4] and [5]).
P. + 6 CCl, + 12 HOH + S B ^P. + 6 CCl, + 12 HOH + S B ^

To synthesize the phosphorous triesters, for example, tetrachlorohydrocarbon and an alcohol are used in accordance with the stoichiometric ratio to the elemental phosphorus given in the reaction equation, with a slight excess (up to about 10%) proving to be favorable, while a clear excess of the organic base, but at least the stoichiometric amount is applied. From the formed hydrochloride of the organic base is filtered off. From this, the free base can be easily recovered. The workup of the liquid reaction mixtures is carried out by distillation.
As the organic base, a trialkylamine such as trimethyl- or triethylamine, or a bulky proton-containing amine such as t-butylamine or dicyclohexylamine is particularly suitable. The use of sterically less demanding alkylamines leads to increased side reactions with formation of P-N bonds, which leads to the formation of higher levels of phosphorus products in the +5 oxidation state.
Das erfindungsgemäße Verfahren weist folgende entscheidenden Vorteile auf:As the alcohol, an aliphatic, unsubstituted or substituted aromatic alcohol can be used. As the polar aprotic solvent, dimethylformamide or acetonitrile is preferably used. When working with elemental phosphorus, the reaction is preferably carried out between 50 0 C and 70 0 C, when using PH 3 at room temperature. The use according to the invention of an organic base in conjunction with the use of a polar aprotic solvent has the effect that the synthesis of phosphorous acid esters is also possible without addition of alkali metal alkoxides. In contrast to DD-PS 127187 produced by the novel process as the main product a Phosphorigsäuretriester, while according to the method protected in said patent mixtures of various phosphorus (V) compounds, including phosphoric acid esters, can be produced and keir> 3 Phosphorigsäureester incurred. The method according to the invention has the following decisive advantages:
It allows the preparation of triesters of phosphorous acid in one process step directly from elemental phosphorus or PH 3 without the use of metal alkoxides ^
The triesters of phosphorous acid can be separated off by distillation from the reaction mixtures or, without prior separation, subjected to further reactions, for example to diesters of phosphorous acid, phosphoric acid and alkanephosphonic acid esters.
The used as hydrogen chloride acceptor organic base can be easily recovered and reused.
In addition, all the advantages of the known processes of direct synthesis of esters of phosphoric acid using carbon tetrachloride as oxidizing agent are retained.
