Un segmento de ácidos nucleicos aislado que codifica unpolipéptido, CARACTERIZADO PORQUE comprende la secuencia de aminoácidos de la SEQ ID N°. 2, SEQ ID N°. 4, SEQ ID N°. 6, SEQ ID N°. 8, SEQ ID N°. 10 o SEQ ID N°. 12.Una composición, CARACTERIZADA PORQUE contiene un polipéptido aislado que comprende la secuencia de aminoácidos de la SEQ ID N°. 2, SEQ ID N°. 4, SEQ ID N°. 8. SEQ ID N°. 10 o SEQ ID N°. 12. 5Un método para mutar un polipéptido Cryl de acuerdo con cualquiera de las reivindicaciones precedentes para aumentar la actividad insecticida de dicho polipéptido contra un insecto Lepidóptero, CARACTERIZADO PORQUE dicho método comprende los siguientes pasos:(a) predecir en dicho polipéptido una secuencia contigua de aminoácidos que codifican una región de bucle entre a-hélices adyacentes del dominio 1 o entre una a-hélice del dominio 1 y una cadena ß del domino 2; (b) mutar uno o más de dichos residuos de aminoácidos en dicha secuencia contigua de aminoácidos con el fin de producir una población de polipéptidos que posea una o más regiones de bucle alteradas.(c) probar la actividad insecticida contra dicho insecto Lepidóptero de dicha población de polipéptidos, e (d) identificar en dicha población un polipéptido que posea una mayor actividad insecticida contra dicho insecto Lepidóptero.
