According to one aspect of the present disclosure, a chassis includes at least one slot and a plurality of guide extensions. At least one slot is configured to receive a plurality of first storage devices (e.g., E1.S trays) or second storage devices (e.g., 1 x 2.5 inch Hard Disk Drives (HDDs)). The memory device 10 includes a bottom surface 12, a top surface 14, a first side surface 16, and an opposing second side surface 18. The first side 16 forms a first elongated recess 30 extending inwardly therefrom. The opposite second side 18 forms a second elongated groove 32 extending inwardly therefrom. The first and second elongated recesses 30, 32 are adjacent to the bottom surface 12 of the memory device 10 in fig. 1A.
As will be discussed below, the first and second elongated recesses 30, 32 of the storage device 10 are configured to facilitate securely engaging or securing the storage device 10 into a slot of a chassis. As best illustrated in fig. 1B, the first and second elongated recesses 30, 32 are of different sizes and shapes. The first elongated groove 30 has a width W1And height H1. The enclosure 100 is configured to house the storage devices 10a, 10 b. Storage devices 10a, 10B are shown housed in enclosure 100 using arrow a and storage devices 10a, 10B are shown removed from enclosure 100 using arrow B. In one example, the enclosure 100 may be used in a computer system such as a server, but is not limited. As described above, the chassis in other embodiments may be implemented in other computer systems, such as a network switch, a stand-alone computer, or a storage unit (e.g., a just a bunch of disks (JBOD)). Referring to FIG. 3A, a detailed view and an enlarged view of the slots 106a-106d are shown. Referring to FIG. 3B, a detailed view and an enlarged view of the slots 106B-106d are shown. Each of the slots 106a-106d is configured to receive two memory devices 10 (e.g., memory devices 10a, 10b shown in FIG. 2). Referring to fig. 3B, the slot 106B is formed by a bottom wall 162, a top wall 164, a first side wall 166, and a second side wall 168. A plurality of guide extensions 170,172,174,176 are depicted, wherein each of the plurality of guide extensions 170,172,174,176 extends inwardly into the slot 106 b. The guide extensions, in combination with the elongated slots of the storage devices discussed above, facilitate insertion, removal, and securement of the storage devices into the slots of the chassis. The storage device slides on the guide extension when the guide is inserted into or removed from the chassis.
The guide extension 170 extends from the bottom wall 162. The guide extension 170 is in the shape of the letter "L". As shown in fig. 3B, the guide extension 170 extends upwardly from the bottom wall 162 and then inwardly away from the second side wall 168. Guide extensions 172,174 extend from the first sidewall 166. The guide extension 172 is adjacent the bottom wall 162. The guide extensions 174 are adjacent the top wall 164, and the guide extensions 172,174 are generally rectangular. A guide extension 176 extends from the top wall 164. The guide extension 176 is in the shape of the letter "L". The guide extension 176 extends downwardly from the top wall 164 and then inwardly away from the second side wall 168.
The guide extensions 180,182,184,186 are depicted in the slot 106c and the guide extensions 190,192,194,196 are depicted in the slot 106 d. The plurality of guide extensions are similar to the guide extensions 170,172,174,176 described above.
It is contemplated that in another embodiment of the chassis, the guide extensions may extend entirely from the side walls. It is contemplated that in another embodiment of the chassis, the guide extensions may extend entirely from the end walls. It is contemplated that in another embodiment of the chassis, the guide extensions may extend from a combination of the side walls and the end walls. It is also contemplated that the positioning of the guide extensions may be different than that shown in fig. 3B.
Referring to FIG. 4, a front view of the plurality of storage devices 10a-10f in the plurality of slots 106b-106d of the enclosure 100 is shown. A plurality of slots 106b-106d are depicted that hold a plurality of memory devices 10a-10 f. Specifically, the slot 106b fixes the storage devices 10a, 10 b. More specifically, guide extensions 170,172 extend inwardly from opposite sides to securely engage storage device 10a, while guide extensions 174,176 extend inwardly from opposite sides to securely engage storage device 10 b. Unlike the storage devices 10a-10f of FIG. 4, the enclosure 100 of FIG. 5 includes a storage device 210 secured therein. The storage device 210 substantially occupies the space of the slot 106b formed by the bottom wall 162, the top wall 164, the first side wall 166, and the second side wall 168. In one embodiment, the storage device 210 is a 1 × 2.5 inch Hard Disk Drive (HDD). An HDD is an electromagnetic data storage device that uses magnetic storage and one or more rapidly rotating platters coated with magnetic material to store and retrieve digital data.
Thus, the slot 106b is configured to receive multiple storage devices 10a, 10b (FIG. 4) or one storage device 210 (FIG. 5). This is advantageous because the enclosure 100 has flexibility in its configuration to accommodate multiple types and sizes of storage devices. Installing different storage devices into the chassis may also be effective in installing and replacing storage devices. 2. The chassis of claim 1, wherein the at least one slot of the chassis is a plurality of slots.
3. The chassis of claim 1, wherein the first set of guide extensions is located at or adjacent to the top wall and the second set of guide extensions is located at or adjacent to the bottom wall, at least one of the plurality of guide extensions being "L" shaped or substantially rectangular.
4. The chassis of claim 1, further comprising the plurality of E1.S brackets secured in one of the at least one slot, each of the plurality of E1.S brackets including a bottom surface, a top surface, a first side surface, an opposing second side surface, a first end and an opposing second end, the first side surface defining a first elongated groove extending inwardly therefrom, the opposing second side surface defining a second elongated groove extending inwardly therefrom, the first elongated groove and the second elongated groove positioned adjacent the bottom wall of each of the plurality of E1.S brackets, each of the at least one slot including two of the plurality of E1.S brackets.
5. The chassis of claim 1, further comprising the plurality of e1.S brackets secured in one of the at least one slot, each of the plurality of e1.S brackets including a first end, an opposing second end, a first side, an opposing second side, a top surface and a bottom surface, the top surface or the bottom surface including a securing protrusion for securing one of the plurality of e1.S brackets to the chassis via the plurality of guide extensions, the securing protrusion having a cross-sectional shape in the form of a letter "T".
6.
