The closure drive mechanism of claim 11, wherein the actuation rod includes a firing member disposed on a distal side thereof, the firing member, when moved in a distal direction of the stapler, downwardly urges the retention member such that the retention member at least partially enters the recess of the th slider block, the third slider block includes a fifth ramp disposed on a proximal side thereof, the firing member includes a ramp surface disposed on a distal side thereof, and the fifth ramp and the ramp surface are oriented with respect to each other.
  13. 13. The closure drive mechanism of claim 11, wherein the receiving slot has an -th biasing element disposed therein, the -th biasing element biasing the second slider downwardly.
  14. 14. The closure drive mechanism of claim 11, wherein a second biasing member is disposed below the third slider and biases the third slider upward.

The closure drive mechanism according to claim 11, wherein the side of the actuation lever is provided with a flange that moves toward the distal side of the stapler to contact the top surface of the third slider and force the third slider to move downward when the movable handle is grasped.
  16. 16. The closure drive mechanism according to claim 15, wherein the flange and the boss of the second slider block are located on either side of the actuation rod in a proximal side view of the stapler.
  17. 17. The closure drive mechanism of claim 10, wherein the distal side of the slider is a ramp, the ramp is sloped upward from its distal side to its proximal side, and the proximal side of the tab is a second ramp that mates with the ramp.
  18. 18. The closure drive mechanism of claim 17, wherein the proximal side of the recess is a third ramp that mates with the second ramp, and wherein the distal side of the recess and the distal side of the boss are both vertical surfaces.

The closure actuation mechanism of claim 9, wherein the retaining member comprises an leaf spring, the leaf spring comprising a fixed end secured to the stapler, a pressing portion, and a movable end that enters the groove of the slider when the actuating lever presses the pressing portion downward.
  20. 20. The closure actuating mechanism of claim 19, wherein the fixed end of the resilient tab is located at a distal end of the movable end, and the movable end is bent downward and toward a distal end of the stapler to form a fitting portion that fits into the recess of the -th slider.
