Description
Technical Field
The present invention relates to a bolt suitable for being mounted on a lock for an emergency door that can be opened by an emergency lever.
Background
The use of crash bars or lever handles on security doors such as emergency exits and/or fire doors is well known. A crash bar is a special handle that effects the actuation of a lock on a door by the action of a pushing force exerted on the crash bar itself in a direction substantially perpendicular to the front surface of the door, thereby opening the door. Handles of this type are used on security and/or emergency doors and are easily actuated with a pushing action that coincides with the escape direction through the door.
Typically, the door has a lock provided with a latch that can rotate on a plane parallel to the ground, i.e. perpendicular to a vertical axis of rotation parallel to the axis of rotation of the door. Further, the latch is movable between an extended position in which the free end of the latch extends out of the volume of the door, and a retracted position in which the free end of the latch is contained within the volume of the door. Rotation of the latch between these two extreme positions is effected by actuation of the emergency lever. In more detail, when the emergency lever is not actuated, the door is in the closed position and the latch is extended, with the aforesaid free end interfering with an abutment element located on the fixed jamb of the doorframe. Upon actuation of the emergency lever, i.e. by the action of a thrust force exerted on the lever in a direction perpendicular to the door, the latch rotates towards the retracted position; rotation means that the interference between the latch and the abutting element is eliminated, thus determining the possibility of opening the door. The bolt may also be fitted with a self-locking device which acts at the free end to achieve a stable interference between the bolt and the adjoining element, thus ensuring sufficient resistance to intrusion attempts thereon. In particular, the abutment between the latch and the abutment element determines the activation of the self-locking device, which results in preventing the latch from rotating if a positive action is performed in a direction coplanar with the plane of the door and perpendicular to the rotation axis. As mentioned above, this helps to increase the door's resistance to intrusion attempts.
As mentioned above, the emergency lever and latch described above are used in emergency fire doors. In this type of application, the latch must be made of a material that can withstand high temperatures and has a very high melting point. Thus, latches are currently manufactured from steel machined from solid or sintered steel, or other materials having the same high temperature resistance characteristics. Furthermore, considering that the latch can also consist of a plurality of assembled parts if it is provided with a self-locking device as described above, it is evident that the cost and time for machining such parts are relatively high.
SUMMERY OF THE UTILITY MODEL
It is therefore an object of the present invention to provide a latch suitable for being mounted on a lock for emergency doors that can be opened by an emergency lever, which has reduced processing costs and times with respect to those currently known, but at the same time ensures the same function and reliability in the stable closing of the door and in the resistance to intrusion attempts.
This object is achieved by a latch adapted to be mounted on a lock for an emergency door openable by an emergency lever, said latch comprising a body extending between a connecting end connected to said lock and a free end adapted to interfere with an abutment associated with a fixed frame of said door when said door is in a closed position, said latch further comprising a self-locking device operatively connected to said free end so as to project at least partially from said free end, said latch being characterized in that said body comprises a housing for a casing, said self-locking device being fixed and substantially housed within said casing.
In some embodiments, the body and the housing are made of different materials, wherein the housing is made of a material having a melting point lower than the melting point of the material of the body.
in some embodiments, the housing is made of a plastic material.
In some embodiments, the body is made of steel.
In some embodiments, the body comprises two spaced apart and parallel sides, at one end of which a head wall extends in a perpendicular arrangement to the sides, the head wall embodying a free end of the latch.
In some embodiments, an end of the side face opposite to the end at which the head wall is located defines the connecting end, at which opposite end the rotatable connection between the bolt and lock body is achieved by a pin representing the axis of rotation of the bolt.
In some embodiments, the housing includes spaced apart and parallel side walls with a head wall positioned at one end of the side walls in a perpendicular arrangement, the side walls adapted to mate with the side surfaces of the body when the latch is assembled, the head wall of the housing adapted to mate with the head wall of the body when the latch is assembled.
In some embodiments, openings are respectively related to the head wall of the body and the head wall of the housing for the passage of the self-locking device.
In some embodiments, the self-locking device comprises a foot movable between an extracted position in which the foot protrudes through the opening and a recessed position in which the foot is housed within the housing, the foot and the interference element being fixed to the housing by engagement with two pins.
In some embodiments, the recessed movement of the foot determines activation of interference of the self-locking device with the pin to prevent rotation of the body.
In some embodiments, the self-locking device comprises a resilient return member tending to keep the foot in the extracted position.
In some embodiments, the latch further comprises a bottom wall extending in a perpendicular arrangement between the side and head walls to define a substantially box-like shape of the body.
In some embodiments, the side, bottom and head walls laterally define the enclosure for the housing.
In some embodiments, the axis of rotation of the body and the axis of the pin of the self-locking device are parallel to the axis of rotation of the door once the latch is installed on the lock in the door.
In some embodiments, when installed, the bottom wall is exposed towards the side of the door equipped with the emergency lever.
Drawings
The invention will now be explained in more detail by the following description of embodiments, provided by way of non-limiting example with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 is a view of a bolt according to the invention shown separately;
Figure 2 shows an exploded view of the latch of figure 1;
Figures 3a and 3b show a latch mounted on a door for a panic door openable by means of a panic lever, wherein figure 3a shows the door in the open configuration and figure 3b shows the door in the closed configuration.
Detailed Description
With reference to the above figures, a latch 1 is shown, suitable for mounting on a lock (not visible in the figures), for a panic door 2a openable by means of a panic lever 3. The door is rotatably mounted on the fixed frame 4 with respect to a rotation axis X perpendicular to the ground.
The latch 1 comprises a body 10 extending between two ends; the connection between the bolt and the lock body is realized at a first or connecting end 10 a; the second or free end 10b is able to interfere, in the closed position of the door 2, with an abutment element 5, which abutment element 5 is associated with a pillar 40 of the fixed frame 4.
The latch further comprises a self-locking device 11, known per se, which self-locking device 11 is connected to the free end 10b so as to at least partially protrude therefrom and also to interfere with the abutment 5 when the door is closed.
According to a particular aspect of the invention, the self-locking device 11 is contained within a housing 12. The body 10 then comprises a housing 10c for housing said housing 12 and therefore the self-locking device 11.
In further detail, the main body 10 and the shell 12 are made of different materials, wherein the shell is made of a material having a melting point lower than that of the material from which the main body is made.
The housing 12 may be made of a plastic material.
the body 10 may be made of steel and/or sheet steel.
Referring now to figures 1 and 2, a specific embodiment of a latch according to the present invention is described. The body 10 comprises two parallel and spaced apart sides 10 d; when the latch is installed, the two sides are positioned in an arrangement perpendicular to the axis of rotation X of the door.
At the end of each side corresponding to the above-mentioned connecting end 10a, a rotatable attachment between the bolt 1 and the lock body is provided by means of a pin 13. The pin 13 defines the bolt rotation axis X'.
Then, a first or bottom wall 10e extends between the two lateral faces 10d, the first or bottom wall 10e being positioned in a perpendicular arrangement to the lateral faces. A second wall or head wall 10b is positioned between the side and bottom walls to close the body of the latch at the head and define a free end 10b opposite the aforementioned connecting end. The head wall 10b is then adapted to interfere with the abutment 5 to achieve a stable closing of the door 2.
The two side faces 10d, the bottom wall 10e and the head wall 10b define the box-shaped configuration of the body of the latch, defining a space for the above-mentioned housing 12 in the casing 10 c.
The housing 12 in turn comprises two side walls 12a adapted to match the sides 10d of the main body 10 of the latch when the housing 12 is mounted. Between the side walls 12a head wall 12b of the housing is located which is adapted to match the head wall 10b of the body when the latch is assembled. Advantageously, a through hole 12c is obtained on the side wall 12a of the housing to allow the rotatable insertion of the connecting pin 13 connected to the lock body.
A self-locking device 11 is housed inside the housing 12, this self-locking device 11 being fixed between two connecting pins 14 and 15, the connecting pins 14 and 15 defining respectively two axes X "and X '" parallel to the rotation axis X' of the latch.
The connection between the housing and the self-locking device 11 provides an elastic return to position, in the preferred embodiment by means of a helical spring 11a wound on the pin 15. The elastic return member tends to keep the self-locking device 11 in an extended position from the head of the latch, through the opening 11d defined by the two aligned openings obtained on the head wall of the body and of the casing, respectively. In addition, according to the known embodiment, the self-locking device comprises two parts, namely a foot 11b and an interference element 11 c. The foot projects from the body of the latch at the head through the opening 11 d. Instead, the interference element 11c is inside the housing and is rotatably arranged on the pin 15. The foot is slidably fixed on pin 14 by means of a first slot 11e and on pin 15 by means of a second slot 11f, so as to have a substantially translational movement in a direction perpendicular to X' "between a withdrawn position projecting from the body of the latch and a position recessed in the housing when subjected to the stresses of abutment by the abutting element 5. The recessing action determines the actuation of the self-locking device in the sense that an interference is achieved between the interference element 11c and the rotation pin 13 of the latch.
According to the utility model discloses a bolt is particularly favorable to preventing the application in the fire door. In particular, the body of the bolt is made of a material (for example, steel) having high fire resistance, i.e., having a high melting point, with the result that stable closing of the door is ensured even in the event of a fire. To prevent flame propagation through the door, the door must maintain its closed function, but the lock is not strictly required to remain intact. The closing function of the door is ensured on the outside by the abutment between the swing contour 20 of the door and the pillar 40. On the inside, instead, the closure is ensured by the abutment of the latch on the abutment element 5. Therefore, since the main body of the latch can withstand high temperature, its function and stable closing of the door are ensured. The bottom wall 10e further ensures a shielding effect against flames.
In contrast, as mentioned above, the other parts of the lock do not have to remain intact even in the event of a fire. Thus, the inner shell may be made of a material having a lower melting point (e.g., a plastic material).
The bolt described thus achieves the result of ensuring the safety function of the door and its resistance to intrusion attempts, while still having a construction cost that is significantly lower than that of known bolts. In particular, on the one hand, the construction costs of the latch are saved, since the parts can be made of refractory materials with lower technical characteristics, and on the other hand, since the box shape of the body can be obtained by simple and economical processing techniques (for example cold bending).
These features make the latch according to the invention suitable for use in any type of security and emergency door with lever actuation.
Therefore, the present invention is not limited to the embodiments described and illustrated above, but includes any implementation variations thereof.
