模具是制造业的一种基本工艺装备，它的作用是控制和限制材料（固态或液态）的流动，使之形成所需要的形体。用模具制造零件以其效率高，产品质量好，材料消耗低，生产成本低而广泛应用于制造业中。
随着我国经济的飞速发展，使得汽车大量进入普通家庭，进入了普及状态。因而带来汽车行业的空前膨胀，由此带来了轮毂行业的又一次飞跃。而采用挤压铸造代替压力铸造生产铝合金车轮，不仅克服了压铸件内部容易形成气孔和氧化夹杂的缺陷，而且提高了成品率及材料利用率。模具的好坏直接关系到出砖品质的好与坏，所以生产模具时对每个工艺都要求特别严格。
