Abstract

技术领域
本发明涉及一种等离子体显示屏(PDP)的驱动装置。
背景技术
不同的平板显示器如LCD(液晶显示器),FED(场发射显示器),和等离子显示器屏面(PDP)得到了很大的发展。等离子体显示屏和其他的平板显示器相比具有更高的分辨率,更高的发射效率,和更宽的视角。因此,等离子体显示屏作为一种能够替代常规阴极射线管(CRT)特别是大于40英寸的大面积显示器的显示器。 等离子体显示屏是一种平板显示器,通过气体放电所产生的等离子体来显示字符或图像,并且包括几十万至上百万以矩阵排列的像素。像素的数量是由等离子体显示屏的大小所决定的。等离子体显示屏根据所用的驱动电压的波形和放电单元的结构分成了DC(直流)等离子体显示屏和AC(交流)等离子体显示屏。
当施加电压时,直流等离子体显示屏的电极暴露在放电空间中并且电流在放电空间中流动,因此提供限制电流的电阻是有困难的。另一方面,交流等离子体显示屏的电极被介电层覆盖,因此电流由于自然形成的电容元件而受到限制,并且保护电极在放电的情况下不受离子脉冲的影响,因此交流等离子体显示屏的寿命比直流等离子体显示屏的寿命更长。
图1显示了在现有技术中的交流等离子体显示屏的部分透视图。如图1所示,在第一玻璃基板上1平行以成对方式排列的扫描电极4和维持电极5,并在上面覆盖了介电层2和保护膜3。在第二玻璃基板6上建立了多个地址电极8,地址电极8上覆盖着绝缘层7。在地址电极8之间的隔离肋9(barrierrib)与地址电极8平行的形成在绝缘层7上,荧光体10形成在隔离肋9的两侧和绝缘层7的表面上。第一和第二玻璃基板1和6彼此面对面设置,并在其间形成放电空间,使得扫描电极4和维持电极5可以分别和地址电极8交叉。在地址电极8之间的放电空间11和一对扫描电极4和维持电极5的交叉部分形成放电单元12。
图2示意性地显示了在现有技术中的等离子体显示屏的电极排列。如图2所示,等离子体显示屏的电极包括M×N矩阵格式。将地址电极A1到Am按列排列,将N个扫描电极Y1至Yn和维持电极X1至Xn交错的按行排列,将扫描电极表示成“Y电极”,将维持电极表示为“X电极”,图2中的放电单元12与图1中的放电单元12相对应。
图3为有关常规等离子体显示屏的驱动波形图。根据图3所示的等离子体显示屏的驱动方法,每个子域包括复位期,地址期,和维持期。在复位期,擦去了前面维持-放电的壁电荷(wall charge),并且生成壁电荷以便稳定地进行下一次地址放电。在地址期,选择平板上打开或关闭的像素单元,并且壁电荷在打开的单元(即地址单元)中积累。在维持期,在寻址单元上为充分示图像而进行放电。
将描述在复位期等离子体显示屏的驱动方法的操作。如图3所示,复位期包括Y斜升周期和Y斜降周期。
(1)Y斜升周期
在Y电极上施加电压从Vs逐渐上升到Vset的斜坡复位波形,而同时地址电极和X电极在该周期保持在0伏。当斜坡复位波形正在上升时,从放电单元中的Y电极向地址电极和X电极上生成第一微弱的复位放电,因此,负壁电荷积累在Y电极上,正电荷在地址电极和X电极上积累。
(2)Y斜降周期
往Y电极上施加逐渐从电压Vs下降到负电压Vnf的斜坡复位波形,与此同时X电极保持恒定电压Ve。当斜坡复位波形正在下降时在放电单元中生成第二微弱复位放电。
图4显示了实现如图3所示的驱动波形的常规等离子体显示屏驱动电路图。根据如图4所示的常规驱动电路,为了分离电压Vs与在Y斜坡上升期间(其中当开关Yrr导通时,施加给平板电容的电压从Vs上升到电压Vset的时期)施加的电压,需要主开关Ypp。由于主开关Ypp设置在主放电通路上,因此实质上需要多个并联的场效应晶体管(FET)。因此根据常规驱动电路,由于电路的阻抗和组成部分的数量增加,整个板的面积以及成本就增加了。问题还在于,根据常规驱动电路,由于在主通路上增加的阻抗,从而使得在持续放电的情况下对放电裕度(margin)产生了影响。
发明内容
本发明的一个实施例提供一种具有减少的电路组件数量和降低的主通路阻抗的等离子体显示屏及其驱动电路。
根据本发明的一个方面,一种用于驱动等离子体显示屏的装置,该屏面包括扫描电极、维持电极和形成在扫描电极和维持电极之间的平板电容,并且该装置包括:
扫描集成电路,包括:节点与扫描电极耦合的第一晶体管和第二晶体管。在运行中扫描集成电路为扫描电极提供扫描电压;
维持放电电压产生器,包括:在第一电压和第二电压之间串联的第三晶体管和第四晶体管,并且它们的节点与扫描电极相连。在运行中维持放电电压产生器为扫描电极提供第一电压或第二电压;及

具体实施方式
在下面的详细描述中,仅仅通过实现本发明的发明人认为的最好的模式表示和详细描述了本发明的优选实施例。如可以实现的,本发明可以以各种显而易见的方式被修改,但都不偏离本发明的实质。因此,附图和描述应认为是说明性的,而非限制性的。为了使本发明更清楚,省略了说明书中未描述的部件,为其提供类似描述的部件具有相同的附图标记。
图5所示为根据本发明的实施例的表示等离子体显示屏的图。如图5所示,根据本发明实施例的等离子体显示屏,包括:等离子体屏面100,地址驱动器200,Y电极驱动器300,X电极驱动器400,和控制器500。
等离子屏面100包括按列排列的多个地址电极A1-Am,以及交替按行排列的第一扫描电极Y1-Yn,和第二维持电极X1-Xn。
在运行中,地址驱动器200从控制器500接收地址驱动控制信号SA,并为每个地址电极施加用于选择要显示的放电单元的显示数据信号。Y电极驱动器器300和X电极驱动器器400分别从控制器500接收Y电极驱动信号SY和X电极驱动信号SX,并施加到X电极和Y电极上。控制器500接收外部图像信号,产生地址驱动控制信号SA,Y电极驱动信号SY和X电极驱动信号SX,并且分别将他们发送给地址驱动器200,Y电极驱动器300,和X电极驱动器400。

根据本发明的实施例的Y电极驱动器包括维持放电电压产生器320,Y上升复位波形产生器340、Y下降复位波形产生器360、扫描电压产生器370和扫描集成电路(IC)380。
维持放电电压产生器320包括:晶体管M1、M2、M3和M4,二极管D1、D2、D3和D4;和电感L1以及电容C1。晶体管M3和M4在Vs的维持放电电压和接地电压之间串联,并且分别作为向平板电容Cp提供电压Vs和接地电压的开关,电容Cl、电感L1和晶体管M1和M2组成了能量恢复电路,并且利用电压Vs为平板电容充电,或者将其放电到接地电压。
扫描集成电路380可包括与扫描电极(平板电容的一端)耦合的晶体管M10和M11,并依次为等离子体显示屏的扫描电极(Y电极)提供扫描电压Vsc。
扫描电压产生器370包括二极管D6和D7、电容C2和晶体管M9。扫描电压产生器370通过二极管D6、D7和晶体管M9为扫描集成电路380的晶体管M10的漏极提供扫描电压Vsc。
Y上升复位波形产生器340包括:二极管D5、电容Cset和晶体管M5,并为平板电容Cp施加从电压Vs上升到电压Vset的上升复位波形。电容Cset与晶体管M3和晶体管M4之间的节点以及晶体管M5的漏极相连,晶体管M5的源极和扫描集成电路380中的晶体管M10相连。
Y下降复位波形产生器360包括:晶体管M6、M7和M8,并为平板电容Cp施加从电压Vs下降到负电压Vnf的下降复位波形,晶体管M6与晶体管M3和M4之间的节点耦合,并且和扫描集成电路380中的晶体管M11相连。
根据图6中所示的驱动电路,提供上升复位波形的晶体管M5与扫描集成电路380中的晶体管M10耦合。这样就排除了在图4中所示的主切换开关Ypp,说明性的,由于在主放电通路上没有提供晶体管M5,因此利用一个FET实现根据本发明具体实施例的晶体管M5。
如上所述,根据本发明的实施例,由于去除了主通路上的常规主开关Ypp,因此电路阻抗被最小化了,维持放电电压的失真也被减小了。此外根据本发明的实施例,由于去掉了在主通路上通过并联多个FET形成的主开关,因此本发明具有这样的优点,电路的组件的数量和电路板的大小都减少了。
下面将参照图6描述本发明实施例中的驱动方法。
(1)复位期
假定电容Cset以电压为Vset-Vs充电,通过导通晶体管M4很容易实现该过程。当晶体管M3导通时,关闭晶体管M4,M6,M7,M8,M9和M11,导通晶体管M5和M10。在电容C1的第一端施加电压Vs,由于电容C1被预充电至电压Vset-Vs,因此电容C1的第二端的电压变成了电压Vset。电容C1的第二端上的电压Vset通过晶体管M5和扫描集成电路380中的晶体管M10施加到平板电容Cp的第一端(Y电极)。同时,在电容Cp的第一端(Y电极)上施加从Vs上升到Vset的电压,因为晶体管M5是在源极/漏极之间流动恒定电流的斜坡(ramp)开关。如上所述,根据本发明的实施例,由于已经通过电容Cset进行了预充电至电压Vset-Vs,因此外部电源为Y电极提供的电压Vset减少到了Vset-Vs。

(2)地址期
当晶体管M5和M6截止时,通过选择性的导通扫描集成电路中的晶体管M10和M9,为Y电极上提供扫描电压。也就是说,当在地址期间Y电极没有执行扫描操作时,晶体管M10和M11被导通为Y电极提供低的电压Vnf,并且当Y电极执行了扫描操作时,晶体管M10被导通而晶体管M11被截止,从而为Y电极提供扫描电压Vsc。
(3)维持放电期
晶体管M5、M10、M7和M8截止,设置在主路径上的晶体管M6导通。通过选择性控制晶体管M1、M2、M3和M4的操作,维持放电电压Vs和接地电压通过扫描集成电路中的晶体管M11施加到Y电极(平板电容(Cp))。
与此同时,电容C1、电感L1和晶体管M1和M2组成了能量恢复电路,并将平板电容Cp充电至Vs或者将其放电到接地电压。
说明性地,在如图6所示的本发明的实施例中,通过电容Cset,外部电源电压(电压Vset-Vs)被减小了,也可以去掉电容Cset,并用电压Vset作为外部电源电压。
虽然本发明实施例中描述的斜坡波形作为上升和下降复位波形的实例,但是别的波形如对数波形同样能用作上升或者下降复位波形。
如上所述,在本实施例中,由于提供上升复位波形的晶体管与扫描集成电路中的晶体管耦合,从而去掉常规的主开关Ypp,因此电路的阻抗降至最低,并且维持放电电压的失真也减小了。
由于在本实施例中,不需要再使用通过在主通路上并联多个FET形成的主开关,因此电路的组件的数量和电路板的尺寸大幅度的减小了。
尽管已参照本发明的确定优选实例表示和描述了本发明,但本领域内的普通技术人员将理解的是,可在不背离由所附权利要求限定的本发明宗旨和范围的前提下对本发明进行各种形式和细节上的修改。
Claims (17)
1.一种等离子体显示屏的驱动装置,该等离子体显示屏包括:扫描电极、维持电极,以及形成在扫描电极和维持电极之间的平板电容,该装置包括:
扫描集成电路,包括第一晶体管和第二晶体管,并为扫描电极提供扫描电压,其中在第一晶体管和第二晶体管之间的节点连接到扫描电极上;
维持放电电压发生器,包括在第一电压和第二电压之间串联的第三晶体管和第四晶体管,维持放电电压发生器为扫描电极提供第一电压或第二电压,其中在第三晶体管和第四晶体管之间的节点连接到扫描电极上;及
上升复位波形发生器,包括第一电容,第一电容的一端连接到第三晶体管和第四晶体管之间的节点上,和第五晶体管,其耦合到第一电容的另一端和第一晶体管上,该上升复位波形发生器为扫描电极提供从第三电压上升到第三电压的上升复位波形。
2.如权利要求1所述的装置,进一步包括:
下降复位波形产生器,包括:与第三晶体管和第四晶体管之间的节点以及第二晶体管耦合的第六晶体管;第七晶体管,第七晶体管与第五电压和第二晶体管耦合,下降复位波形产生器为扫描电极提供下降到第五电压的下降复位波形。
3.如权利要求1所述的装置,进一步包括:
扫描电压发生器,包括与第一晶体管耦合的第八晶体管,并通过第八晶体管为第一晶体管施加扫描电压。
4.如权利要求1所述的装置,所述的第一电压是维持放电电压,第二电压是接地电压。
5.如权利要求1所述的装置,所述第一电容被充电至与第三电压和第四电压之间的差对应的电压。
6.如权利要求1所述的装置,进一步包括:
第九晶体管,与第三晶体管和第四晶体管之间的节点以及第二晶体管耦合。
7.如权利要求6所述的装置,其中通过第五晶体管和第一晶体管为扫描电极施加上升复位波形,通过第九晶体管和第二晶体管为扫描电极施加第一或者第二电压。
8.一种等离子体显示屏,包括:
等离子体屏面,包括:多个按列排列的地址电极,以及按行交替排列的扫描电极和维持电极;及
扫描驱动器,其为扫描电极提供扫描电压和维持放电电压,
其中扫描驱动器包括:
扫描集成电路,包括第一晶体管和第二晶体管,并为扫描电极提供扫描电压,其中在第一晶体管和第二晶体管之间的节点连接到扫描电极上;
维持放电电压产生器,包括:在第一电压和第二电压之间串联的第三晶体管和第四晶体管,维持放电电压产生器为扫描电极提供第一电压或第二电压,其中在第三晶体管和第四晶体管之间的节点连接到扫描电极上;及
上升复位波形产生器,包括第一电容,该电容的一端连接到第三晶体管和第四晶体管之间的节点上;及
第五晶体管,与第一电容和第一晶体管的另一端耦合。
9.如权利要求8所述的等离子体显示屏,进一步包括:
下降复位波形产生器,包括:与第三晶体管和第四晶体管之间的节点以及第二晶体管耦合的第六晶体管;及与第三电压和第二晶体管耦合的第七晶体管。
10.如权利要求7所述的等离子体显示屏,进一步包括:
扫描电压产生器,包括与第一晶体管耦合的第八晶体管,并通过第八晶体管为第一晶体管提供扫描电压。
11.一种等离子体显示屏的驱动装置,该等离子体显示屏包括:扫描电极,维持电极,以及形成在扫描电极和维持电极之间的平板电容,该装置包括:
扫描集成电路,包括第一晶体管和第二晶体管,并为扫描电极提供扫描电压,其中在第一晶体管和第二晶体管之间的节点连接到扫描电极上;
维持放电电压发生器,包括在第一电压和第二电压之间串联的第三晶体管和第四晶体管,维持放电电压发生器为扫描电极提供第一电压或第二电压,其中在第三晶体管和第四晶体管之间的节点连接到扫描电极上;及
上升复位波形发生器,包括与第三电压和第一晶体管耦合的第五晶体管,并为扫描电极提供上升复位波形。
12.如权利要求11所述的装置,进一步包括:
下降复位波形产生器,包括:与第三晶体管和第四晶体管之间的节点和第二晶体管耦合的第六晶体管;及第七晶体管,第七晶体管与第五电压和第二晶体管耦合,下降复位波形产生器为扫描电极提供下降到第五电压的下降复位波形。
13.如权利要求11所述的装置,进一步包括:
扫描电压产生器,包括与第一晶体管耦合的第八晶体管,并通过第八晶体管为第一晶体管提供扫描电压。
14.如权利要求11所述的装置,进一步包括:
第九晶体管,与第三晶体管和第四晶体管之间的节点以及第二晶体管耦合。
15.如权利要求14所述的装置,其中上升复位波形通过第五晶体管和第一晶体管施加到扫描电极上,第一电压或第二电压通过第九晶体管和第二晶体管施加到扫描电极上。
16.一种等离子体显示屏的驱动装置,包括:扫描集成电路,该扫描集成电路包括:与扫描电极相连的节点相连的第一晶体管和第二晶体管,并为扫描电极提供扫描电压;该装置包括维持放电电路,它为扫描电极提供维持放电电压,该驱动装置包括:
第一电流通路,其通过扫描集成电路中的第一晶体管为扫描电极提供上升复位波形;
第二电流通路,其通过扫描集成电路中的第二晶体管为扫描电极提供维持放电电压;
17.如权利要求16所述的装置,其中第二电流通路包括在维持放电电路和第二晶体管之间耦合的主开关,并且当上升复位波形通过第一电流通路施加到扫描电极上时,主开关截断第二电流通路。
