背景技术

磁性和光学阅读的组合减小了支票上MICR数字的读数和替换错误。例如,在读出支票时,优选的终端具有磁性和光学阅读能力。通过实施以上设备的组合或变形,集成的销售点(POS)设备能够从支票正面只捕获重要的顾客信息,以有助于结算和返回款项。另外,MICR图象的捕获有助于分辨路线和帐户号码的磁译码错误。
优选的付费终端(或销售点设备)能够动态下载,这允许主机改变参量或当主机确定某个特定的设备使用过时的软件时下载任何新的应用到机器上。这个过程从POS设备以授权的分组发送应用版本开始。如果主机确定需要更当前的应用版本,则主机将在应答的分组中发送一个指示符/标签。终端应用将设置POS设备,以便在特定的时间联系(拨号)主机,以获得新的应用。
典型的支票交易情景
终端能够把日期、付费人、文本金额和数字金额打印在支票上,以便加快销售点上的交易。如果这个任选项是想要的,则售货员把未签字的空白支票***终端以便打印。打印的支票然后返还给顾客。在标准兑换模型下,顾客实际在支票上签字并不重要。根据终端的总的吞吐量,下面列出的某些单元可能同时出现,诸如步骤(c)/(d)和(e)/(f)。
典型的交易流程:

典型的交易流程可以随以下因素变化,包括(但并不限于这些环境):(1)支票书写者在收据上签字;(2)支票书写者不在收据上签字;(3)商人的收据没有自动打印。某些这样的变例呈现在图5上。
如果支票书写者在收据上签字
I.支票书写者在收据上签字,授权他们的支票被电子处理(方块88)。

在集成的POS设备和主机之间的通信
参照图6,这个过程总的被表示为120,它从终端122与主机124之间的通信开始。在这个过程中,有两组通信。
(1)第一通信123(与图7)是与标准主机进行的通信。这个通信的主要功能是得到对于刚才被扫描的支票的核准。核准包括在主机处的一组合格性规则,它确定作为电子支票兑换的交易的合格性状态。另外,主机可以发送对于来自将发送的已扫描支票的图象块的请求。

在集成的POS设备和主机之间的通信的方法(140)
1.终端扫描支票(方块142)。在正常处理期间,终端扫描支票和磁码。它将保留整个图象。通过磁媒体将发生标准处理。终端的贮存容量可以适当地是1MB。
2.终端发送支票信息到主机(方块144)。这个信息可以包括记帐号码(BN),美元金额和身份证件(驾驶执照等)。替换地,可以包括任何适当的信息,正如本领域技术人员将会看到的。另外,这个分组将是一个识别符,它通知主机:终端硬件确实支持图象成像。
3.主机确定终端支持图象成像(方块146)。
