The display control module 122 can display basic information about the display device 12 itself and adjust functions, for example, a user can control the display control module 122 to start a function table by the input module 124, so as to adjust the brightness, contrast, and image position of the display panel 120. In various embodiments, the display control module 122 may be integrated with other or some functional blocks of the display device, such as a liquid crystal display controller (LCD controller), a zoom controller (scaler), a power control module of the display device, etc., into one display chip (monitor IC), or into several chips according to the design requirements.
The system and peripheral hardware devices of the computer system 1 may include a basic input/output system 140, a fan 142, a central processing unit 144, a memory 146, a network module 148, devices connected to the computer system 1 via a peripheral interface 150, such as a mouse 152 or a keyboard 154, and a display information processing module 160.
The display information processing module 160 may be a Video Graphics Array (VGA) display card or other display cards. After the bios 140 of the computer system 1 completes initialization of each device in the system, the user can control the computer system 1 via the activated os. At this time, the information of the computer system 1 can be transmitted to the display device 12 through the display information processing module 160 via the display interface 161 to be displayed on the display panel 120.
Please refer to fig. 2. FIG. 2 is a more detailed block diagram of the chip 10 according to an embodiment of the present disclosure. In the present embodiment, the chip 10 may be a super input/output (SIO) chip.
The chip 10 includes: a computer system environment information monitoring module, a control connection interface 100, and a control module 102. In this embodiment, the computer system environment information monitoring module may include: a data transmission interface 20, a power monitoring interface 22, an error information port 24, a conventional peripheral interface 26, a hardware monitoring module 280, and an Analog-To-Digital Converter (Analog-To-Digital Converter)282, or a combination of the foregoing functional blocks (function blocks).
The data transmission interface 20 may be a Low Pin Count (LPC) interface in one embodiment, which can replace the conventional ISA (Industry Standard Architecture) transmission interface with the conventional peripheral connection interface 26 to provide a faster data transmission channel for part of the input/output devices, and can communicate with the south bridge chip (not shown) in the computer system 1. In one embodiment, the Power monitor Interface 22 is an Advanced Configuration and Power Interface (ACPI) for controlling the Power of the computer system 1. For example, control the power sequence of the startup and shutdown of each module in the computer system 1 and provide power management during abnormal shutdown.
The error message Port 24 is, in one embodiment, a Port 80(Port 80) for reporting an error message generated by the bios 140 of fig. 1 during a Power-on Self Test (POST) performed during initialization of the computer system 1. The adc 282 is connected to a sensor (not shown) in the computer system 1, wherein the sensor can be used to sense hardware system information such as, but not limited to, the temperature and voltage of the cpu 144, the rotation speed of the fan 142, the temperature and voltage of each module in the computer system 1, and the like. The analog-to-digital converter 282 converts the value sensed by the sensor and then transmits the converted value to the hardware monitoring module 280.
Therefore, the computer system environment information monitoring module, which is composed of a single functional block or a plurality of functional blocks including the data transmission interface 20, the power monitoring interface 22, the error information port 24, the conventional peripheral connection interface 26, the hardware monitoring module 280, and the adc 282, can monitor the computer system environment information of the computer system 1 according to the above-mentioned system and peripheral hardware devices.
For example, the environmental information of the computer system captured by the environmental information monitoring module may include power information monitored by the power monitoring interface 22, system and peripheral device self-test result information received by the error information port 24, hardware system information such as CPU information, temperature information, voltage information, and fan speed information received by the adc 282 from the sensor and transmitted to the hardware monitoring module 280, and network card network identification (LAN card network ID), CPU ID, and network connection status information (LAN connection status) received by the data transmission interface 20 from the south bridge chip. It should be noted that, in an embodiment, the self-test result information of the system and the peripheral device can also be directly transmitted to the control module 102 through the data transmission interface 20, and the control module 102 does not need to obtain the self-test result information of the system and the peripheral device by retrieving the information in the error information port 24.
In other embodiments, the computer system environment information monitoring module may include different modules according to different situations, or may capture other related computer system environment information, and is not limited to the above embodiments.
The control connection interface 100 is electrically connected to the monitor display control module 122. In one embodiment, the control connection interface 100 may be a System Management Bus (SMBus) for communicating with the OSD module 122. In one embodiment, the chip 10 can be used as a master (master) and the display control module 122 can be used as a slave (slave) to communicate with the control connection interface 100. In other embodiments, through appropriate command definitions, other types of Bus interfaces, such as Serial Peripheral Interface (SPI) and I2C (Inter-Integrated Circuit) may be used to communicate with the display control module 122, and are not limited to the embodiments described herein.
The control module 102 is electrically connected to the computer system environment information monitoring module and the control connection interface 100, and controls the display control module 122 through the control connection interface 100 according to the computer system environment information.
The control module 102 may further control the display function of the display panel 120 by controlling the display control module 122. In one embodiment, the control module 102 can output the aforementioned environment information of the computer system to the display control module 122 through the control connection interface 100, so that the display panel 120 can display the environment information of the computer system thereon.
If the operating system of the computer system 1 is not enabled or not started, or the display information processing module 160 is not enabled or not operated, or the display interface 161 is disconnected, the system information cannot be displayed through the display information processing module 160 and the display interface 161. Even if the bios 140 performs the power-on self test error during the initialization of the computer system 1, it is necessary to perform additional debugging through the led display on the motherboard or through the debugging card. These all bring inconvenience to the user.
At this time, the control module 102 can directly display the content of the computer system environment information on the display panel 120 through the control connection interface 100 and the display control module 122 by controlling the display according to the computer system environment information monitored by the computer system environment information monitoring module in the chip 10. Therefore, the user can directly use the computer system environment information displayed on the display device 12 by the monitor display control module 122 to debug or understand the system status without using other external modules.
In one embodiment, the input command 121 inputted by the input module 124 can control the display control module 122 to display a part of the computer system environment information or all of the computer system environment information on one end of the display device 12. The display control module 122 can be determined by displaying a function table on the display panel 120.
In another embodiment, the control module 102 may control the display control module 122 according to the environment information of the computer system to further control the display status of the display panel 120. The display state includes backlight brightness, contrast, color representation parameters, picture position or their permutation and combination. For example, if the control module 102 determines that the computer system 1 has been idle for a period of time according to the environment information of the computer system, the display control module 122 can be controlled to further control the backlight brightness of the display panel 120 to decrease, so as to achieve the effect of saving power.
In another embodiment, the control module 102 can further control a power control module (not shown) of the display panel 120 through the display control module 122 according to the environment information of the computer system. The display control module 122 and the power control module of the display panel 120 may have a connection circuit, or as mentioned above, the display control module 122 may be integrated with the lcd controller, the zoom controller, and the display power control module into a display device chip, so that the display control module 122 may transmit an instruction from the control module 102 to the display power control module, so that the control module 102 may determine that the display panel 120 is in the standby state according to the environmental information of the computer system, so that the power control module may reduce or turn off the power of the display panel 120, and when the display panel 120 is restored from the standby state to the working state, the power control module may restore the power supply of the display panel 120.
In another embodiment, a bi-directional communication and control can be achieved between the chip 10 and the OSD control module 122 through the input module 124. The display control module 122 can transmit the input command 121 received by the input module 124 to the control module 102.
When the peripheral input/output device of the computer system 1, such as the mouse 152 or the keyboard 154, is disabled, the control module 102 may control the system and the peripheral hardware devices of the computer system 1 according to the input command after receiving the input command 121. For example, the control module 102 may perform a debugging process or shutdown control on the computer system 1 according to the input command 121. The control module 102 may also control the computer to shut down through the power monitoring interface 22 after receiving the input command 121. On the other hand, when the display panel 120 does not have a screen due to the display information processing module 160 or the display interface 161 failing to operate normally, the control module 102 may control the computer system environment information monitoring module to retrieve the related information according to the input command 121, and further transmit the related information to the display control module 122 through the control connection interface 100 to display the related information on the display panel 120. Therefore, by the design of the bidirectional communication, the chip 10 can obtain the input command 121 from one end of the display device 12 to control the computer system 1 when the input/output device of the computer system 1 cannot operate smoothly and the display device 12 can operate normally.
Please refer to fig. 3. FIG. 3 is a more detailed block diagram of the chip 10 according to another embodiment of the present disclosure. The chip 10 may be an Embedded Controller (EC) chip in this embodiment.
In the present embodiment, the basic architecture of the chip 10 is similar to that shown in fig. 2, and includes a control connection interface 100, a control module 102, a data transmission interface 20, a power monitoring interface 22, an error information port 24, a conventional peripheral connection interface 26, a hardware monitoring module 280, and an analog-to-digital converter 282. However, in the present embodiment, the chip 10 further includes a register map 30 and an embedded control interface 32. In this embodiment, the environmental information monitoring module of the computer system may be the aforementioned functional blocks (interfaces, modules) or a combination thereof.
The embedded control chip 10 is different from the super i/o control chip 10 in that the super i/o control chip 10 has real circuit blocks to implement a computer system environment information monitoring module or other modules. The embedded control chip 10 of the present embodiment controls the multiplier, adder, register, and General Purpose input/output (GPIO) modules of the chip 10 by using firmware (firmware) stored in the chip 10, so as to achieve the effect of the environmental information monitoring module of the computer system or other modules. Therefore, although fig. 3 illustrates the blocks, some blocks may not have complete physical circuits as the super input output control chip, but may achieve the same effect after controlling the multipliers, the adders, the registers and the general input and output. Therefore, the chip 10 further includes a register lookup table 30 to control the operation of each register. The data transmission interface 20 and the conventional peripheral interface 26 must communicate with each other through the embedded control interface 32 due to different specifications. However, the functions described in the previous embodiments can also be implemented by the multiplier, adder, register and general purpose input/output as described above, and can be applied to the computer system 1. In other embodiments, other types of chips can be used, and are not limited to embedded control chips or super input/output control chips.
It should be noted that the computer system 1 can be an All In One (AIO) computer as shown in fig. 1. That is, the chip 10, the display device 12, and the systems and peripheral hardware devices such as the BIOS 140, the CPU 144, the memory 146, etc. may be formed on a single circuit board. Therefore, by being designed on a single circuit board, the control connection interface 100 between the control module 102 and the monitor display control module 122 can be formed on the circuit board directly independent of the display interface 161.
Please refer to fig. 4. FIG. 4 is a block diagram of a computer system 1 according to another embodiment of the disclosure. In the embodiment, the computer system 1 is a desktop computer or notebook computer type computer system 1, and includes a host 4, a chip 10 and system and peripheral hardware devices located in the host 4, and a display device 12 independent from the host 4. Therefore, in this embodiment, taking a desktop computer as an example, the display interface 161 is used to achieve communication between the display information processing module 160 and the display device 12 through a transmission line, and the control connection interface 100 between the control module 102 and the display control module 122 can be integrated with the display interface 161 in the same transmission line, so as to achieve the purpose of bidirectional communication and control.
The advantage of the present disclosure is that by connecting the chip for monitoring the environmental information of the computer system with the display control module, the display control module of the display can be controlled according to the environmental information of the computer system to further control the operation of the display panel, thereby easily achieving the above-mentioned objectives.
While the present disclosure has been described with reference to exemplary embodiments, it will be understood by those skilled in the art that various changes in form and details may be made therein without departing from the spirit and scope of the present disclosure, and therefore the scope of the present disclosure should be limited only by the terms of the appended claims.
