Description

Safety handle for controlling access to a machine or an industrial plant
Technical Field
The present invention finds application in the field of industrial electrical equipment, and in particular relates to a safety handle suitable for use in a barrier or protective panel for monitoring access to a machine or industrial plant.
Background
It is well known that access to a machine or plant requires constant monitoring by providing a means of preventing an operator from actively or accidentally entering the operating area.
To this end, access openings such as barriers, perimeters and protective panels are generally provided with one or more safety devices connected to the power supply circuit and possibly to auxiliary service circuits of the machine or installation, so as to allow access inside only after the machine or system or the hazardous part is blocked, so as to continuously indicate the operating state of the machine or plant and any abnormal conditions that may affect any part of the plant.
The safety level of these devices must be high, with a high risk occurring if the operator enters the perimeter while the machine or plant is still running.
One known type of access control device is the safety handle, i.e. those devices that allow opening and closing of the access opening and that allow a plant shutdown or only a partial shutdown when the access opening is opened or simply unlocked.
An example of a safety handle is disclosed in US2005/108945, where the handle comprises a magnetic sensor arrangement that detects the opening of a doorway for subsequent opening of an operating power supply circuit and shutdown of the plant.
Another example of a safety handle for controlling a doorway is disclosed in DE102009039591, wherein the handle is associated with an actuator device adapted to interact with an operating device associated with a fixed part of the doorway.
Generally, these handles comprise a main body formed by an anchoring bracket fixed to the frame of the movable part of the access opening and a casing or housing having the function of also having a handle fixed to the bracket.
For example, in EP2264353, by the same applicant, the handle comprises an anchoring bracket fixed to the movable part of the access opening, and on which the handle extends integrally with a key actuator adapted to interact with a switch device associated with the fixed part of the access opening.
The fixing of the handle of the body on the movable part of the access opening is achieved by means of usual fastening members (for example screws, pins, snap means) which, depending on the shape of the handle, can be inserted into the housing from the front or from the back or from the side.
Still another example of such a handle is disclosed in EP2112674 of the applicant.
A first drawback of these handles is that once the handle is mounted on the door, the fixed part of the movable part of the doorway is accessible, making it possible to dismount it and therefore to dismount it in unsafe conditions, since it is possible to remove a part of the handle or the entire handle and to perform an inspection within safe limits, without having to stop the plant and without evidence that such non-compliance has occurred.
Another limitation of known handles is the lack of customization possibilities. In particular, the known handles are designed so that the user cannot decide to apply certain control or signal transmission devices chosen according to their own needs, unless they require a handle specifically designed for this purpose.
For example, a handle for industrial use is provided with an operation button and a signal lamp.
However, the configurability of these handles is very limited, often limited to aesthetic aspects, such as the color of the light beam.
Furthermore, these handles do not allow the use of the same basic structure for applying different types of actuators.
Last but not least, these handles are not provided with actuators adapted to interact with the control devices of the machine or plant in order to send control signals and/or to produce the locking/unlocking of the access opening and the closing/opening of the moving parts.
Disclosure of Invention
The object of the present invention is to overcome the above mentioned drawbacks by providing a safety handle suitable for controlling the access opening of an industrial machine or plant, characterized by high efficiency and relatively low cost.
A particular object is to provide a safety handle which is highly safe so as to be able to prevent possible attempts of disassembly thereof in the case of closure of the access opening.
Another object is to provide a secure handle that provides evidence of any tampering or removal attempt.
Another object is to provide a safety handle which has a high degree of configurability both from a functional and aesthetic point of view, without having to modify its basic structure according to the operating or signal transmission device chosen by the end user.
These and other objects, which will become better apparent hereinafter, are achieved by a safety handle, comprising, according to the independent claim: a body adapted to be anchored to a movable portion of the doorway to be controlled and adapted to be grasped by a user for moving the movable portion of the doorway; means for securing the body to a movable portion of the doorway; an actuator adapted to be associated with said body and adapted to interact with a control device associated with a fixed part of the doorway when the doorway is closed to control the machine or plant.
The body is housed inside one or more signal transmission and/or control devices provided with means for electrical connection to one or more power and/or service circuits of the machine or plant.
In this way, in addition to allowing interaction between the actuator and the control device when the access opening is closed, to allow the transmission of, for example, a signal suitable for starting the machine or plant, the handle will allow the transmission of other commands or visible and/or audible signals useful for security access control.
Advantageous embodiments of the invention are obtained from the dependent claims.

Detailed Description
Referring to the drawings, there are shown some preferred but not exclusive embodiments of a safety handle suitable for application to protect the perimeter of a machine or plant or the doorway of a safety barrier.
In particular, the access opening may be suitably provided with suitable electronic or electromechanical safety devices adapted to interrupt the operation of the machine or plant or part thereof, or to signal the release or opening thereof, when the latter is in the open condition or even only in the unlocked condition, so as to allow the intervention of an operator, said notification being according to known methods and therefore not disclosed in detail hereinafter.
As shown in the figure. In figures 1 and 2, the handle (indicated as a whole with 1) will be designed to be anchored to the movable part M of the doorway a to be controlled, so that when the doorway is closed, the actuator 2 interacts with the switch S, which is associated with the fixed part F of the doorway a and is provided with switch means, invisible as it is located inside the switch S, connected to the power and service circuit of the machine or plant for opening/closing it after opening/closing or locking/unlocking the doorway a, the opening/closing of which is according to what is known herein and therefore not disclosed in greater detail.
In a more general configuration, the handle 1 comprises a main body suitable to be anchored to a movable portion M of the access opening a to be controlled and to be gripped by the user to move the movable portion M, the main body being fixed to the movable portion by fixing means.
The body is also associated, in a fixed or removable manner, with an actuator 2, the actuator 2 being adapted to interact with a control device associated with the fixed part F of the access opening a when the access opening a is closed, so as to enable control of the machine or plant.
According to a first embodiment, more clearly visible in fig. 3, the body is composed of two distinct elements, namely a support 3 and a casing 4 for anchoring to the movable portion M of the access opening a to be controlled.
In the embodiment specifically shown, the latter also has the function of a handle to be gripped by the user and to allow the movement of the movable portion M.
However, according to a variant not shown, a handle distinct from the casing 4 can be provided, connected in a fixed or removable manner to the casing 4 itself or to the support 3.
In this particular embodiment, the casing 4 is connected to the support 3 by anchoring means comprising a plurality of connecting members (generally indicated with 5) inserted in respective pairs of mutually aligned holes 6, 7 realised in the support 3 and the casing 4 respectively.
At least one of the holes of each pair of holes will be of the through type to allow the insertion of the corresponding connecting member 5.
In particular, in the embodiment shown, but not limiting, there are two pairs of front holes 6, 7; 6 ', 7' and a pair of side holes 6 ", 7". These two pairs of front holes are axially aligned for the insertion of two connection screws 5, 5' from the front, and said pair of side holes are axially aligned for the transverse insertion of the other connection screw 5 ".
At least the holes 7, 7 ', 7 "formed on the housing 4 are through holes, and the holes 6, 6', 6" formed on the bracket 3 may be blind holes or through holes, without particular limitation.
The body will have a plurality of channels 8, 8', 8 "for the insertion of means for fixing it to the movable part M of the access opening a, not shown in the figures, which may be screws, pins or similar.
Advantageously, the channels 8, 8', 8 "may be elongated slots to allow the position of the body to be adjusted during its assembly on the movable portion M of the access opening a.
In the non-limiting embodiment shown, the channels 8, 8', 8 "are made in the support 3.
The number and shape of the fixing channels 8, 8', 8 "(three in the illustrated embodiment) may vary according to the shape of the support and do not represent a limiting aspect for the invention.
In the embodiment shown, the shape of the casing 4 covers the bracket 3 completely, except for the rear facing inside the safety perimeter, so that the channels 8, 8', 8 "are also protected by the casing 4.
However, according to a variant not shown, the casing 4 may leave a portion of the support 3 uncovered and may also leave exposed one or more of the fixing channels 8, 8', 8 ".
The support 3 is also provided with an actuator 2, the actuator 2 being adapted to interact with a switch S mounted on a fixed part F of the access opening a to be controlled.
However, according to a variant not shown, the actuator 2 can be mounted on the casing 4 or directly on the movable portion M of the access opening a.
In the embodiment shown, the actuator 2 is of the remote-actuated type, equipped with an RFID (radio frequency identification) tag designed to communicate with an antenna placed in the fixed switch S to signal the closing of the access opening a.
Advantageously, the RFID tag will be coded so that it can be uniquely identified by the switch S and prevent the use of an actuator different from the one connected to the handle 1, thus avoiding the risk of opening the access opening a without safety.
In this first embodiment, the actuator 2 comprises a housing 9, the housing 9 comprising a label and being provided with a centering element 10, the centering element 10 being insertable in a hole H provided in the casing C of the switch S and also having the function of retaining the handle 1 on the switch S by interacting with a locking device located in the switch casing, according to known methods and disclosed for example in WO2015083143 of the same applicant.
It should be understood, however, that the actuator 2 may also be of another type, for example with electromechanical action, such as a key actuator, or by means of magnetic or electromagnetic, optical or other types of sensors.
According to a unique feature of the invention, sealing means are provided to cover the means for fixing the body to the movable portion M of the access opening a, to prevent access to these fixing means.
In the embodiment shown, the sealing means will cover the fixing means of the bracket 3, i.e. the channels 8, 8', 8 "and the associated fixing members inserted therein.
In case the housing 4 completely covers the holder 3, the sealing means may directly or indirectly protect the fixation means by applying it on the anchoring means.
In the configuration of the figures, the anchoring means comprise, for each connecting member 5, an anti-tamper plug 11, 11 ', 11 ", 11', 11" suitable for closing the respective pair of through holes 7, 7 ', 7 "facing outwards from the open end and preventing access from the outside to the connecting member 5, 5', 5", which may be a screw, a pin or the like.
In this way, it is not possible to remove the casing 4 from the support 3 without leaving traces of such action, and therefore it will not be possible to access the fixing means of the support 3 without leaving any relevant traces.
According to a variant not shown, the casing 4 will not cover the fixing channels 8, 8 ', 8 ", and in this case the tamperproof plug 11, 11 ', 11" will be applied directly on the fixing member inserted in the fixing channel 8, 8 ', 8 ", directly or through other protective elements.
Preferably, the anti-tamper plugs can be tightly fitted in the respective through holes 7, 7', 7 "formed in the casing 4, so that there are no elements that could contribute to the extraction thereof.
Furthermore, the tamper- resistant plugs 11, 11', 11 "are also designed to break when they should be removed, to prevent them from being reinserted and to give immediate evidence of a removal attempt.
The anti-tamper plugs 11, 11 ', 11 "may be hollow internally for the insertion of connecting elements 5, 5 ', 5" with non-flat heads 12, 12 ', 12 "and larger than the figures.
Due to the combination of these features, the handle 1 will always be sufficiently protected from possible actions aimed at detaching the casing 4 from the support 3 or the body or parts thereof (depending on its specific configuration) and possibly causing the access opening a to be in an unsafe condition.
In fact, in addition to making the disassembly more difficult, the presence of the sealing means will provide evidence, since it will no longer be possible to restore the initial state of the handle 1.
According to a variant not shown, the connecting member 5, 5', 5 ″ or the means for fixing the body to the movable portion M of the access opening a may not be associated with sealing means.
As shown in the figure. As shown in fig. 8 and 9, the bracket 3 includes a flat plate 13, and the flat plate 13 is used for fixing the bracket 3 to the doorway a and for anchoring the casing 4.
The flat plate 13 is formed integrally with a curved shaped plate 14, the plate 14 having the purpose of allowing the anchoring of the actuator 2.
Advantageously, the shaped plate 14 comprises two flat portions 15, 16, said two flat portions 15, 16 being orthogonal to each other and connected by an intermediate curved portion 17 or in any case angled.
Each of the two flat portions 15, 16 comprises a series of respective holes 18, 18' (four holes each in the configuration shown) for fixing the actuator 2 in two different positions mutually rotated by 90 ° by means of respective screw connection members 19 or the like, as can be seen by a comparison of fig. 8 and 9.
According to a variant not shown, the actuator 2 can be realized by quick coupling, interference or other types of devices, without particular theoretical limitation.
In this way, the handle 1 provided with the actuator 2 can be used to open the doorway by swinging and sliding, and can be of both the left-hand opening door and the right-hand opening door type, since the entire handle 1 will be substantially symmetrical with respect to a horizontal mid-plane, as shown, for example, in fig. 5 to 7.
According to a particularly advantageous but not exclusive variant, the connecting members 19 of the actuator 2 to the bracket 3 can also be associated with respective anti-tamper plugs 20 in a similar manner to that described above, to prevent the actuator 2 from being detached from the handle 1 and used in combination with the switch S to make the system start in the event of an unsafe open doorway.
The housing 4 is typically composed of a plastic body of sufficient strength, which may be solid or hollow, as desired.
According to a particularly advantageous feature, the bodies 3, 4 can be housed internally or in any case associated with one or more auxiliary command and/or signal transmission devices for plant operation, which can be connected to the electric circuit of the machine or plant by providing suitable electrical and/or electronic connection means.
For example, in the variant shown in fig. 3, it can be seen that the housing 4 comprises a front grip element 21 having a front shutter 22, the front shutter 22 being either fixed or removable.
The shield 22 can be used to customize the handle 1 to the needs of the user, for example by writing a particular letter or symbol or by changing colour.
The shield 22 can be anchored to the front grip element 21 in a removable or fixed manner.
In a particular variant, the grip element 21 will be internally hollow to define an internal housing 23, in the case where the shutter 22 is removable, the internal housing 23 can then be accessed by removing the shutter 22.
Inside the housing 23, the above-mentioned control and/or signal transmission devices can be inserted to assist the operation of the plant and can be connected to the circuits of the machine or plant by electrical and/or electronic connection means, for example a PCB (printed circuit board) 24, located inside the housing 23.
According to a particular variant, it would be possible to insert one or more light sources, for example one or more LED lights 25, for example placed directly on the PCB 24 as shown in fig. 4, the LED lights 25 being able to light up according to different modes depending on the conditions at the machine or factory, in order to provide immediate evidence.
In particular, the signal transmission device 25 can emit a light beam with variable colour and/or on/off frequency according to the operating state of the access opening a to be controlled.
To this end, the shield 22 will be at least partially optically transparent or translucent to allow the light beam generated by the light source 25 to pass through.
However, it should be understood that the location of the LED lamp 25 on the grip element 21 is merely exemplary, as the control and/or signal transmission device, which typically comprises the LED lamp 25, may be applied to any part of the body 3, 4.
According to a further variant, shown in fig. 10, the handle 1 will be provided with a control or signal transmission device 26, the control or signal transmission device 26 being suitable for being connected to the power supply and/or service circuit of the machine or plant to be controlled.
As shown, the control or signal transmission device 26 may be an operating button, selector, display, touch panel, or any other electrical, electronic, electromechanical device suitable for commanding or signaling one or more power sources and/or service circuits of a machine or plant.
According to a particular variant, not shown, the handle 1 may be provided with an antenna suitable for the dialogue and identification of RFID tags with a distinct code, such as badges, electronic keys, etc., housed in identification devices belonging to operators able to operate machines or plants, so that the opening of the access opening a is only possible after the antenna has identified the tag.
Other control or signal transmission devices may be selected among the biometric devices, such as devices for fingerprint recognition, facial recognition, or other types of recognition, without particular limitation.
In this way, by means of the device 26, it is possible to send an electrical command to the machine or plant, such as a signal requesting the opening or unlocking of the access a, an interruption of the machine or plant or other service signal.
In particular, shutter 22 comprises one or more seats 27 for housing an actuator 28, actuator 28 belonging to a respective control or signal transmission device 26, actuator 28 being adapted to interact with a contact unit 29 located inside casing 23 and connected to PCB 24 according to a method depending on the type of command.
The fixing of the shutter 22 to the housing 4 can be achieved by means of screws or similar type of connection means 30, or by snapping or interference, without particular theoretical limitation.
According to a variant not shown, the handle 1 can be provided with one or more signal transmission and/or control devices 26 and a light source 25, for example associated with the PCB 24.
Fig. 14 shows another embodiment of the handle 1, which differs from the previous one firstly by virtue of the more linear shape of the body. This shape is made possible because the actuator 2 comprises an RFID tag 31 housed inside the body and is free of centring and locking elements.
The method of attaching the tag 31 to the main body of the handle 1 is not limited and is not described in more detail. By way of example only, the tag 31 may be interlocked in a suitable not shown seat made inside the support 3 or the casing 4.
The tag 31 will interact with corresponding sensor means located on the fixed part F of the doorway a, in place of the switch S described above, so as to send a presence signal which will be processed by a suitable machine or plant control device according to known methods, for example as disclosed in WO 2013098788.
In this embodiment, the main body will be constituted by a housing 4 having only a grip function without the stand 3 or by a housing 4 having a grip function covering the entire stand 3 on the front side.
In the first case, the connecting elements 5, 5 'also act as fixing means and are protected by two anti-tamper plugs 11, 11', which 11, 11 'fit snugly in the through holes 7, 7' of the casing 4.
In the second case, the connecting members 5, 5' will only have the function of means for anchoring the casing 4 to the support 3, and, similarly to the above disclosure, the support 3 will be fixed to the movable portion M of the access opening a.
The handle according to the invention is susceptible of numerous modifications and variations, all of which are within the scope of the inventive concept expressed in the appended claims. All the details may be replaced by other technically equivalent elements, and the materials may differ according to requirements, without departure from the scope of protection of the invention.
