Detailed Description
As described below, the present invention has proven to be particularly advantageous when applied to a washing machine. In any case, it should be emphasized that the present invention is not limited to a washing machine. In contrast, the present invention can be conveniently applied to a washing and drying machine (i.e., a washing machine that can also dry laundry).
Referring to fig. 1, there is shown a preferred embodiment of a washing drum 1 according to the present invention, which is adapted to be rotatably mounted in a washing machine.
As can be better seen in fig. 2, the washing drum 1 preferably comprises a tubular body wall 10 apt to rotate about a rotation axis R. The tubular body wall 10 is preferably cylindrical. In different embodiments, the tubular body wall may have different shapes, for example, the tubular body wall may be frustoconical and/or circular in shape.
The tubular body wall 10 preferably comprises a rear end 12 closed by the rear wall 12 and a front end 14, the front end 14 having an opening 16 for loading/unloading laundry and preferably being aligned with a loading/unloading door of the washing machine (not shown). The tubular body wall 10 is preferably made of a metallic material, preferably stainless steel.
The tubular body wall 10 comprises a protrusion 20 protruding from the tubular body wall 10 towards the rotation axis R.
Preferably, the tubular body wall 10 is metallic and the projections 20 are obtained by punching the tubular body wall 10.
According to one aspect of the invention, the profile 30 of the protrusion 20 at the tubular body wall 10 has the shape of a square circle (square).
Fig. 4 shows a square-round shape in a cartesian coordinate system of x and y. The square and round shape is represented by equation (x-a) 4 +(y-b) 4 =r 4 And (3) limiting.
The square round shape shows approximately four rounded corners K1K 4, the four rounded corners K1K 4 being joined by four slightly rounded sides S1S 4.
The square-round shape is symmetrical and shows two symmetry lines coinciding with said axes x and y. In the following, the first symmetry line X is indicated as square-circular reference axis X. It has to be noted that, due to the symmetry of the square circle, the reference axis used in the present invention may also indicate the second symmetry line y.
In other words, the reference axis X symmetrically divides the two opposite slightly circular sides S2, S4.
It has to be noted that in practice the square-round shape may be substantially symmetrical rather than completely symmetrical, in particular due to the deformations caused by the stamping process.
The projection 20 preferably includes a side wall 32 extending from the profile 30 and terminating at a bottom wall 34.
The side walls 32 and bottom wall 34 preferably include smooth surfaces that advantageously engage therebetween without sharp edges.
The side walls 32 and bottom wall 34 preferably include rounded surfaces having a suitable radius of curvature.
The rounded wall is advantageous in providing a gentle treatment to the garment.
According to one aspect of the invention, the projections 20 are suitably oriented at the tubular body wall 10 such that the reference axis X of the square-circular profile 30 is inclined with respect to the rotation axis R, as shown in fig. 5.
Fig. 5 shows the rotation axis R and the preferred directions of rotation C1, C2 of the washing drum 1.
As is known, in fact, during a washing cycle, the washing drum 1 preferably rotates around the rotation axis R in a clockwise direction C1 and a counter-clockwise direction C2, so as to spin-dry the laundry placed therein.
The clockwise direction C1 and the counterclockwise direction C2 are also shown in fig. 1 and 2.
According to one aspect of the invention, the reference axis X of the square-round profile 30 is inclined with respect to the rotation axis R of the washing drum 1 to form an angle a.
In a preferred embodiment of the invention, as shown in the figures, angle a is equal to 45 °. Preferably, the angle is comprised between 22.5o and 67.5 o.
Preferably, the tubular body wall 10 includes a plurality of projections 20 positioned side by side to define a desired pattern.
As shown in fig. 2, the projections 20 are preferably defined and arranged in an inclined row-column matrix substantially throughout the tubular body wall 10.
Two adjacent lugs 20 preferably define a respective channel 50 therebetween. The channel 50 is defined by the side walls 32 of two adjacent lugs 20.
Thus, each channel 50 is preferably aligned in a direction inclined with respect to the rotation axis R.
Fig. 10 shows a first different pattern realized by the following projections 20: the projections 20 are arranged in oblique rows-columns spaced apart from each other on the tubular body wall 110 and are displaced in groups G.
The projections 20 are preferably arranged in rows along the main axis Y. Preferably, the main axis Y is parallel to the rotation axis R.
A smooth area a is preferably defined between the sets G of projections 20. Each region a may also be considered a large channel, preferably having a width equal to or greater than the corresponding row of projections, preferably aligned along the rotation axis R.
Fig. 11 shows a second, different pattern, which is achieved by protrusions 20 being displaced on the tubular body wall 210 in oblique rows H spaced apart from each other.
The projections 20 are preferably arranged in rows along the main axis Y'. Preferably, the main axis Y' is inclined with respect to the rotation axis R.
A smooth area a' is preferably defined between the sets H of projections 20. Each region a' may also be considered as a channel, preferably having a width equal to or greater than the corresponding row of projections, preferably aligned along a direction inclined with respect to the rotation axis R.
The tubular body wall 10 preferably includes distributed apertures 70. The holes 70 are preferably obtained by punching the tubular body wall 10.
The holes 70 help to drain water from the inside of the washing drum 4 to the outside, to spin-dry the laundry placed therein.
According to a preferred embodiment of the present invention, an aperture 70 is implemented in the channel 50, as best seen in fig. 3 and 5. Here, the holes 70 are preferably implemented only in the channels 50.
In different embodiments, the apertures 70 are distributed differently over the tubular body wall. For example, as shown in fig. 9, the aperture 70 in the tubular body wall 310 is additionally or alternatively implemented at the side wall 32 and/or bottom wall 34 of the projection 20.
According to an advantageous aspect of the present invention, as described above, the protrusion 20 enhances the water loss when the washing drum 1 rotates in the clockwise direction C1 or the counterclockwise direction C2 due to its shape and orientation.
Referring to fig. 5, when the washing drum 1 rotates in the clockwise direction C1, water collides with the first/upper corner K1 and the lateral sides S1, S2 of the projection 20. The effect is to deflect the water from the center toward the sides of the projections 20 along the channels 50 between adjacent projections 20, thereby avoiding the generation of turbulence and/or accumulation of water and enhancing the delivery of water to the discharge holes 70.
Similarly, when the washing drum 1 rotates in the counterclockwise direction C2, water collides against the third/lower corner K3 and the lateral sides S3, S4 of the projection 20. The effect is to deflect the water from the centre towards the sides of the projections 20 along the channels 50 between adjacent projections 20, thereby avoiding turbulence and/or accumulation of water and enhancing the delivery of water to the discharge orifice 70.
According to another advantageous aspect of the present invention, as described above, the protrusion 20 provides a gentle treatment of laundry when the washing drum 1 rotates in the clockwise direction C1 or the counterclockwise direction C2 due to its shape and orientation.
Referring to fig. 5 and 8, when the washing drum 1 rotates in the clockwise direction C1, laundry collides with the first/upper corner K1 and the sides S1, S2 of the projection 20. The effect of this is that the clothing does not adhere to the inner wall of the tubular body wall 10, but rather the clothing is gently separated from the inner wall.
Similarly, when the washing drum 1 rotates in the counterclockwise direction C2, laundry collides against the third/lower corner K3 and the sides S3, S4 of the projection 20. The effect of this is that the clothing does not adhere to the inner wall of the tubular body wall 10, but rather the clothing is gently separated from the inner wall.
In a preferred embodiment of the present invention, as best seen in fig. 8, the height D of the side walls is preferably constant or substantially constant, and the bottom wall 34 is preferably parallel or substantially parallel to the tubular body wall 10.
In another preferred embodiment of the invention, the height of the side walls varies and the bottom wall is preferably not parallel to the tubular body wall.
For example, as shown in the embodiment of fig. 8A, the height of the side wall 32' continuously decreases, and the bottom wall 34' of the projection 20' is inclined with respect to the tubular body wall 10.
Preferably, the height of the sidewall 32' decreases continuously from the first corner K1 to the third corner K3 (as can be deduced by comparing distances D1 and D2 shown in fig. 8A). Accordingly, the bottom wall 34 'of the projection 20' is preferably inclined from the first corner K1 to the third corner K3.
The effect of this shape is that laundry is differently separated when the washing drum 1 rotates in the clockwise direction C1 or the counterclockwise direction C2.
Advantageously, the mechanical treatment of the laundry differs between a clockwise rotation and a counter-clockwise rotation of the washing drum 1.
It has therefore been shown that the invention allows achieving all the set purposes. In particular, it is possible to provide a washing drum that increases the dehydrating performance of laundry during a washing cycle, compared to known washing machines.
Although the present invention has been described with reference to the particular embodiments shown in the drawings, it should be noted that the present invention is not limited to the particular embodiments shown and described herein; in contrast, other variations of the embodiments described herein fall within the scope of the invention as defined by the claims.
