Abstract

A pocket knife comprises a blade (1) pivotally deployable on a handle formed by an upper handle panel (3) and a lower handle panel (2). The pry member (30) has two screwdriver blades (18) that are sufficiently separated to allow them to function as a screwdriver without compromising the pry function.

Description

Pocket tool
Technical Field
The present invention relates to a pocket tool, and in particular to a folding pocket tool, such as a pocket knife, for example. These include frame locks and liner lock folding knives, where a portion of the frame or a liner element movable within the frame may be moved to a position where the blade is locked in an open, deployed configuration.
Background
It is known to include a pry bar in a pocket tool that is useful, for example, for prying up a flanged lid of a can for prying apart other items.
Disclosure of Invention
It is an object of the present invention to provide a pocket tool with a pry bar that is more versatile.
Accordingly, the present invention provides a pocket tool comprising two or more angularly spaced substantially coplanar tool blades arranged such that they may be used in combination as a pry bar and may be used individually as a tool blade.
In a preferred embodiment, the tool blade is a screwdriver blade.
Preferably, the pocket tool comprises a holder for storing one or more tool bits.
Further preferred features are defined in the dependent claims.
The invention also provides a kit of parts for the pocket tool.
Drawings
Preferred embodiments of the present invention will now be described, by way of example only, with reference to figures 1 to 4 of the accompanying drawings, in which:
FIG. 1 is a schematic perspective view of the pocket knife of FIG. 1 from above showing a magnetic head holder holding a hexagonal tool head at an opposite end of the seat;
FIG. 2 is a similar schematic perspective view showing the hexagonal tool head extracted from the head holder;
FIG. 3 is a partial schematic perspective view of a pry bar of the pocket knife of FIG. 1; and
fig. 4 is a partial side view illustrating the pry bar of fig. 3.
Detailed Description
Referring to fig. 1, a pocket knife is shown comprising a stainless steel blade 1, the stainless steel blade 1 being connected to a lower handle plate (or ruler) 2 and an upper handle plate (or ruler) 3 by a threaded pivot bushing assembly 5. A pivot bushing assembly 5 at the front (distal) end of the tool and two machine screws 20 at the rear (proximal) end of the tool secure the uppermost cover plate 4 against the outer surface of the upper handle plate 3, which cover plate 4 comprises a millimeter scale at one of its long edges. These machine screws also extend through a pry tool 30 that separates the upper and lower handle plates at the rear (proximal) end of the tool 30.
The handle panels 2 and 3 and the cover panel 4 include aligned cutouts in their intermediate regions that define stepped hexagonal wrench portions 6.
The handle plates 2 and 3 and the cover plate 4 include one or more wire stripper holes 16.
The handle panels 2 and 3 include bottle opener projections 7 at their distal ends.
The blade 1 comprises a transverse screwdriver blade 8 at one side of its root portion and a serrated edge for cutting e.g. cardboard at the other side of its root portion.
In the retracted configuration shown in fig. 1 and 2, the cutting edge of the blade 1 is covered by the handle plate.
A spring rod (not shown) projecting cantilever-like towards the proximal end of the handle plate 2 is formed in the lower handle plate 2 by a transverse cut. When the blade 1 is fully extended (i.e. directed downwardly to the right in fig. 1), the expanded head portion of the spring lever 19 engages the cam surface (not shown) of the heel portion of the blade 1 and resists (but does not prevent) retraction of the blade 1 between the handle plates.
The handle plates 2 and 3 and the pry tool 30 include aligned rectangular cut-out portions that form an L-shaped tool bit retainer 13 at its proximal end, as best seen in fig. 2. Other header storage methods may also be used.
As shown in fig. 1, the tool bit retainer 13 is shaped and dimensioned to retain a standard hexagonal tool bit 9 against one side of the pocket tool.
As shown in fig. 2, the cylindrical magnet 100 is secured flush with the bottom of the rectangular cutout in the pry tool 30 and, in use, engages the bottom of the hexagonal tool head 9 to retain it in the position shown in fig. 1.
As shown in fig. 3, a pry tool 30 is sandwiched between the upper and lower handle plates of the folding pocket knife at their proximal ends and held in place by machine screws 20.
The pry tool includes two angularly spaced, substantially coplanar screwdriver blades 18. Their angular separation between their longitudinal axes Y
Figure BDA0002429131900000031
So that each can be used as a screwdriver without being affected by the other. Angle of rotation
Figure BDA0002429131900000032
Desirably less than 60 degrees, preferably less than 50 degrees, more preferably less than 40 degrees, and most preferably less than 30 degrees. Angle of rotation
Figure BDA0002429131900000033
Most preferably in the range of 10 to 25 degrees and ideally in the range of 15 to 20 degrees.
These angles ensure that any one of the screwdriver blades 18 can be used so that the other screwdriver bit does not interfere with the workpiece as the tool is rotated about the axis Y of the screwdriver blade being used.
Fig. 4 shows the retention magnet 100 mounted in the bottom of the retainer portion of the pry tool 18.
A flexible belt clip 21 is optionally provided on the underside of the handle assembly, the belt clip 21 projecting cantilevered towards the distal end of the lower handle plate 2.
