The applicant finds that in a conventional display device using glass as a cover plate, the edge of the glass cover plate can be pre-formed into an arc shape with a certain bending angle, for example, the glass cover plate can be made of 3D glass, and the 3D glass can be designed into an arc shape regardless of the middle or the edge, so that the design mode can display relevant information such as time, date and the like at the left and right edge positions of the display device (e.g., a mobile phone), and can realize a curved edge display effect.
However, the applicant found that in the flexible display device, in order to fold the flexible display device, the cover plate must be made of a flexible material, that is, the cover plate needs to be made of a flexible cover plate, and due to the use of the flexible cover plate, an arc shape with a certain bending angle cannot be formed at the edge of the flexible display device, and thus a curved edge display cannot be realized in the flexible display device.

For a bendable flexible display device, an edge region of the flexible display device is generally bent from a display side to a backlight side opposite to the display side, so that a bent portion (also called a podending region) is formed in the edge region of the flexible display device, more wires are bent in the podending region, and a gap needs to be formed in the position of a whole structure to form a support region.
Specifically, as shown in fig. 1, the flexible display device includes a flexible display panel 2 and a support 3, the flexible display panel 2 includes a main body display portion 21, an extension portion 22, and a bending portion 23 connecting the main body display portion 21 and the extension portion 22, a support area is formed between the main body display portion 21, the bending portion 23, and the extension portion 22, and the support 3 is located in the support area to form a support. The main body display part 21 is used for displaying images, the extension part 22 is positioned on the back surface of the main body display part 21, the bent part 23 and the extension part 22 are both provided with wires, and the bent part 23 is a padending area.
As shown in fig. 1, the flexible display device further includes a back film 4, a cover plate 5, an optical adhesive 6, and a polarizer 7, where the back film 4 is disposed between the main body display portion 21 and the supporting portion 3, the polarizer 7 is attached to the display surface of the main body display portion 21, the optical adhesive 6 is used to attach the cover plate 5 to the polarizer 7, and the cover plate 5 is a flexible cover plate.
The applicant has found that the flexible display device shown in fig. 1 has a technical problem that curved edge display cannot be realized due to the use of the flexible cover plate and the flexible display device is of a straight edge design.
The present application provides a new flexible display device for realizing curved edge display in view of the above existing technical problems.
The following describes a flexible display device provided in an embodiment of the present application in detail with reference to the accompanying drawings.
In a first aspect, fig. 2 and 3 respectively illustrate a flexible display device of an embodiment of the present application. As shown in fig. 2 to 3, the flexible display device 1 includes a flexible display panel 2, and an edge area of the flexible display panel 2 includes: the flexible display device 1 further includes a support 3, a main body display portion 21, an extension portion 22, and a bending portion 23 connecting the main body display portion 21 and the extension portion 22. The support 3 is located between the main body display portion 21 and the extension portion 22, and includes a bending portion 31 and a horizontal portion 32 for bending an edge of the flexible display panel 2 in a direction away from the display surface.
Since the flexible display device 1 of the embodiment of the present application includes the supporting member 3, wherein the supporting member 3 is located between the main body display portion 21 and the extension portion 22, and includes the bending portion 31 and the horizontal portion 32, the edge of the flexible display panel 2 is bent in a direction away from the display surface. Therefore, the edge of the flexible display panel 2 can be bent through the bending portion 31 of the support member 3, and then the flexible display panel 2 is displayed at the bent edge, so that the curved edge display effect is achieved, the user experience is further improved, and the market competitiveness is improved.
Specifically, the bending portion 31 is bent away from the display surface, the horizontal portion 32 is parallel to the extending direction of the extending portion 22, and the plane of the bending portion 31 and the plane of the horizontal portion 32 form a predetermined angle. The specific bending angle of the bending portion 31 is set according to actual production requirements, for example: an angle between a plane formed by bending the bent portion 31 and a plane formed by the horizontal portion 32 may be 10 to 60 degrees.
Fig. 4 to 7 respectively show a structural schematic view of the support 3 of the embodiment of the present application. The support 3 of the embodiment of the present application is described in detail below with reference to fig. 4-7:
alternatively, as shown in fig. 4 and 5, the bent portion 31 is fixedly connected to the horizontal portion 32; in order to simplify the manufacturing process of the supporter 3 and reduce the manufacturing cost in the actual design, in the embodiment of the present application, the bent portion 31 is integrally formed with the horizontal portion 32.
In order to be able to support the bending at the edge of the flexible display panel 2, the material of the support 3 should be made of a material having a certain hardness. Alternatively, in the present embodiment, the material of the support 3 includes one of polycarbonate, dacron resin, or metal.
Specifically, the thickness of the support member 3 in the direction perpendicular to the main body display portion 21 is 0.1 mm to 0.5 mm, so that the flexible display panel 2 can be well supported without affecting the overall thickness of the flexible display device 1, and the edge of the flexible display panel 2 can be well bent at a certain angle.
Alternatively, as shown in fig. 6 and 7, the supporting member 3 further includes a connecting member 33, the connecting member 33 is respectively attached to the bending portion 31 and the horizontal portion 32, and the connecting member 33 is disposed toward the main body display portion 21 and is used for fixedly connecting the bending portion 31 and the horizontal portion 32 at a position where the edge of the flexible display panel 2 needs to be bent.
Specifically, as shown in fig. 2, the connecting member 33 is located between the bending portion 31 and the main body display portion 21, and between the horizontal portion 32 and the main body display portion 21, and the connecting member 33 can fixedly connect the horizontal portion 32 to the main body display portion 21, and fixedly connect the bending portion 31 to the main body display portion 21 and the bending portion 23, that is, the bending portion 31 can bend the main body display portion 21 and the bending portion 23 included in the flexible display panel 2 in the embodiment of the present application.
In an alternative embodiment, the connecting member 33 is a glue, and specifically, in this embodiment, the connecting member 33 may be a conventional double-sided tape or a grid tape, where the grid tape has a good air-release property, which is beneficial to reducing air bubbles during attaching.
Specifically, in the feeding manner of the stay 3, as shown in fig. 8, first, the connection member 33 is attached to one side of the bent portion 31 and the horizontal portion 32. Next, the side of the horizontal portion 32 to which the connecting member 33 is attached to a release film. The left and right sides of the adhesive tape 8 are provided with adhesive-free areas 81, and positioning holes 82 are provided in the adhesive-free areas 81 for fixing the support member 3 and positioning the support member 3 when the support member 3 is transported and installed.
As shown in fig. 9, the flexible display device 1 in the embodiment of the present application further includes a back film 4 and a cover sheet 5. Specifically, the back film 4 is located between the main body display part 21 and the connecting member 33, and the cover plate 5 is located on the side of the main body display part 21 away from the back film 4 and is attached to the main body display part 21 through the optical adhesive 6. In addition, the flexible display device 1 of the embodiment of the present application further includes a polarizer 7, and when the flexible display device is specifically set, the polarizer 7 is attached to the display surface of the main body display portion 21, and the optical adhesive 6 is used for attaching the cover plate 5 to the polarizer 7. The cover 5 in the embodiment of the present application is a flexible cover.
When manufacturing the flexible display device 1 according to the embodiment of the present application, the support member 3 may be directly attached to a position where the edge of the flexible display panel needs to be bent. Specifically, first, the connecting member 33 is coated on one side of the bent portion 31 and the horizontal portion 32, the connecting member 33 is disposed on the side away from the bending direction of the bent portion 31, and the supporting member 3 is formed as shown in fig. 7.
