一种背光驱动方法及其装置，用于局部显示背光驱动液晶显示屏。背光驱动方法包括：接收目标屏幕区域显示指令(201)，目标屏幕区域显示指令用于指示显示目标屏幕区域；根据目标屏幕区域确定一个或多个目标LED灯(202)，一个或多个目标LED灯用于向目标屏幕区域提供背光；启动一个或多个目标LED灯(203)。
