Description

Device for cutting rod-shaped articles and machine having such a device
Technical Field
The invention relates to a device which is designed and provided for cutting rod-shaped articles of multiple usable lengths in the tobacco processing industry, comprising a cutting drum which can be driven in rotation about an axis of rotation I, wherein the cutting drum has recesses on its circumferential surface for receiving and holding the rod-shaped articles, and the recesses are oriented parallel to the axis of rotation I in such a way that the rod-shaped articles can be conveyed transversely to their central axis, and further comprising cutting means which are arranged in the circumferential region of the cutting drum in such a way that they can be brought into engagement with the rod-shaped articles located in the recesses.
The invention also relates to a machine, in particular a filter loading machine or a filter assembly device, of the tobacco processing industry, comprising a device for cutting rod-shaped articles.
Background
Such devices are used in the tobacco processing industry. Such devices are used for cutting rod-shaped articles conveyed in the transverse direction, for example filter rods of multiple use length, into single filters of single use length. Rod-shaped articles of the tobacco-processing industry include, in addition to filter rods, filters and filter segments, cigarettes, tobacco rods and other articles, with or without tobacco, respectively.
The rod-shaped articles are either introduced directly into the pockets of the cutting drum or are generally transferred axially (in its longitudinal extension) from the drum to the drum and finally also to the cutting drum. The rod-shaped articles are received and held in the pockets of the cutting drum. The rollers are generally designed as suction rollers, so that the rod-shaped articles can be held in the pockets by the underpressure. The rod-shaped articles of multiple usable lengths can be fed into the region of action of the cutting device by rotation of the cutting drum. At least one cutting knife of the cutting device engages with the rod-shaped article. In other words, the cutting knives sink through the rod-shaped article and separate or divide the rod-shaped article into single use length articles. In order to avoid the collision of the cutting knives with the cutting cylinder, grooves/slits are provided in the pit area, into which the cutting knives can sink. The grooves/slits are formed along the circumferential surface transversely to the recesses. For example, in detail, a groove/slit separates two axially aligned dimples. Before cutting, a filter rod of, for example, twice the used length extends over two axially aligned pockets. The knife is lowered through the filter rod into the groove/slit in order to completely cut off the filter rod. The cutting drum with the recesses here forms a counter bearing for the cutting device to some extent.
In the known devices for cutting rod-shaped articles, a rotary-driven circular knife is used as a cutting knife. The circular knife is self-rotating driven and cuts the article in the pocket. Although the circular knife is driven in rotation, the circular knife is arranged in a stationary manner during cutting, so that the product strikes the "stationary" knife edge. Circular knives are only suitable for accurately cutting simple and mainly soft articles. However, rod-shaped articles and in particular filters and filter rods are constantly supplied with hard additives. In other words, the article to be cut is constantly provided with hard particles, such as charcoal or the like, which cannot be cut or can only be cut imprecisely with a conventional circular knife. This is also effective for articles which themselves have such a high hardness or contain plastic segments that they cannot be cut or can only be cut imprecisely with conventional circular knives.
Disclosure of Invention
The object of the invention is therefore to provide a simple and powerful device for cutting rod-shaped articles, in particular also rod-shaped articles of great hardness. The invention also aims to provide a corresponding machine.
This object is achieved by the aforementioned device in that the cutting device comprises a rotatably drivable tool holder having at least one holder carrying a cutting blade. The invention provides a cutting device, by means of which a higher-energy cut can be produced. Higher cutting speeds can also be achieved by a circumferential knife carrier with at least one cutting knife. This results in that even products, in particular containing charcoal or other hard particles, can be cut reliably and accurately. By arranging the or each cutting knife on the circumference of the knife holder, the cutting knife with high energy, like a pulse, will hit the rod-shaped article. By using a tool holder, it is possible to use a large diameter in comparison with a circular tool, as a result of which high tool speeds can be achieved. This further enhances the advantages.
A particularly preferred embodiment is characterized in that two or more holders, each having a cutting knife, are arranged uniformly distributed over the circumference of the tool holder. The cutting speed of the apparatus can be increased by two or more cutting knives, thereby increasing the efficiency of the apparatus.
Preferably, each cutting knife is arranged in the knife holder in a radially adjustable manner. By means of the radial adjustment of the cutting knives, long cutting knives can be used for a long service life.
A preferred embodiment is characterized in that each cutting knife has a sickle-shaped cutting edge. By means of the sickle shape of the cutting edge, i.e. by means of the region of the cutting knife which hits the product, so-called shearing (ziehende Schnitte) can be carried out, whereby an accurate cross-sectional image is produced.
Advantageously, each blade carrier is mounted so as to be movable relative to the blade carrier. Such an alternative embodiment serves on the one hand to be able to optimally adjust the cutting knives with reference to their position/orientation relative to the article to be cut and on the other hand to cause the cutting knives, when they are rotated, to hit an optionally provided abrasive/grinding disc at a determined angle for producing the desired grinding image.
A preferred embodiment is characterized in that each holder is configured to be rotatable about an axis D oriented radially toward the center M of the tool holder. This configuration promotes the aforementioned advantages.
A preferred embodiment is characterized in that each cutting knife is made of a stainless steel plate. By material selection, particularly long cutting knives with a long service life can be provided.
In another preferred embodiment, each cutting blade is made of a hard metal. In particular, rod-shaped articles of high hardness can be reliably cut with this material selection.
A preferred embodiment is characterized in that the or each cutting blade describes a circle by rotation of the blade carrier, wherein a grinding device is arranged in the circular region of the cutting blade, which grinding device can be brought into operative connection with the or each cutting blade. The cutting knife can thus be kept constantly in an optimum state, which can directly affect the cutting quality.
This object is also achieved by a machine of the aforementioned type in that the device for cutting is constructed in accordance with the aforementioned.
The advantages derived therefrom have already been described in relation to the device for cutting, whereby reference is made to the corresponding paragraphs in order to avoid repetition.

Further features and developments which are suitable for the purpose and/or are advantageous for the device and the machine for cutting rod-shaped articles emerge from the description. Particularly preferred embodiments of the device and the transfer device are further elucidated on the basis of the drawing. Wherein:
figure 1 shows a schematic view of an apparatus for cutting rod-shaped articles according to the invention;
FIG. 2 shows an enlarged view of the cutting drum in perspective view;
FIG. 3 shows an enlarged view of the tool holder in perspective view;
fig. 4 shows a schematic view of a tool holder in a front view.
Detailed Description
The apparatus shown in the drawings is for cutting double use length filter rods into single use length filters. In the same way, however, the invention also relates to a device for cutting other rod-shaped articles of different composition, wherein the articles can be cut to such single-use lengths or also to individual sections.
The illustrated device 10 is designed and arranged for cutting rod-shaped articles 11 of multiple usable lengths of the tobacco processing industry and comprises a cutting drum 12 which can be driven in rotation about an axis of rotation I, wherein the cutting drum 12 has recesses 13 on its circumferential surface for receiving and holding the rod-shaped articles 11. The pockets 13 are oriented parallel to the axis of rotation I so that the rod-shaped articles 11 can be transported transversely to their central axes. The device 10 furthermore comprises a cutting device 14, which is arranged in the circumferential region of the cutting drum 12 in such a way that the cutting device 14 can be brought into engagement with the rod-shaped articles 11 located in the pockets 13.
According to the invention, the device 10 is characterized in that the cutting means 14 comprise a rotatably drivable tool holder 15 having at least one holder 17 carrying a cutting blade 16.
The features and embodiments described below represent preferred embodiments individually or in combination with one another. It is to be noted in detail that the features outlined in the description and/or the figures or described in the common embodiment may also extend the above-described device 10 functionally independently.
Both the cutting cylinder 12 and the tool holder 15 are provided with drives, not explicitly shown, by means of which the cutting cylinder 12 and the tool holder 15 can be driven in both directions of rotation. Preferably, the axis of rotation II of the blade holder 15 is oriented parallel to the axis of rotation I of the cutting cylinder 12. The axes of rotation I and II may lie in a horizontal plane E. Alternatively, however, the axes of rotation I and II can also be arranged offset to one another. The cutting cylinder 12 and/or the tool holder 15 or the associated drive can optionally also be connected to a control and/or regulating device. Furthermore, the cutting drum 12 is preferably connected to a vacuum unit, which can likewise be connected to a control and/or regulating device. The cutting device 16 can be moved towards the cutting cylinder 12 into a working position and away from the cutting cylinder 12 into a waiting/maintenance position.
Preferably, two or more holders 17, each with one cutting blade 16, are arranged evenly distributed over the circumference of the blade holder 15. In the embodiment according to fig. 3 and 4, two holders 17 with cutting knives 16 are provided, which holders are diagonally opposite to each other. In the embodiment according to fig. 1, four holders 17 with cutting knives 16 are provided, which are distributed uniformly over the circumference. In other embodiments, three or more than four holders 17 with cutting blades 16 can also be provided, which are distributed uniformly or irregularly over the circumference of the tool holder 15.
Preferably, each cutting blade 16 is arranged in a blade holder 17 in a radially adjustable manner. The cutting knives 16 are arranged in the knife holder 17 at least in a radially outwardly adjustable manner. But it is also alternatively possible to adjust radially inwards towards the centre point M of the tool holder 15. In response to the adjustment, the cutting knife 16 projects with its cutting edge 18 from the holder 17 by an amount h, so that the cutting edge 18 has sufficient free space for cutting into the product 11 and severing the product 11. The blade 18 may have a straight shape. Preferably, each cutting blade 16 has a sickle-shaped blade edge 18 (see e.g. fig. 1). In other embodiments, the cutting edge 18 may be configured to be convex (see, e.g., fig. 4). Other knife shapes may be equally applicable.
In some embodiments, the blade holder 17 is arranged on the blade holder 15 in a positionally fixed and rotationally fixed manner (vertellfest). In these exemplary embodiments, the blade holder 17 is oriented such that the cutting blade 16 strikes the rod-shaped article 11 with its cutting edge 18 perpendicularly. In other embodiments, each blade holder 17 is movably supported relative to the blade holder 15. Preferably, the blade holder 17 is suspended from the blade holder 15, for example, in a cardan shaft. However, it is also possible to adjust the tool holder 17 relative to the tool holder 15 by means of other adjusting means, for example control cams or the like. Particularly preferably, each tool receptacle 17 is configured to be rotatable about an axis D oriented radially toward the center point M of the tool holder 15.
In particular, the material selection of the cutting knives 16 is related to the article 11 to be cut and its composition and hardness. For standardized articles 11, such as simple filter rods or the like, the cutting knife 16 is preferably made from a stainless steel plate. For cutting the products 11 provided with the additive, for example charcoal, each cutting knife 16 is preferably made of a hard metal. Other materials, in particular plastics, can likewise be used for producing the cutting blade 16.
As mentioned before, each cutting blade 16 describes a circle by rotation of the blade holder 15. In the or each circle drawn by the cutting knife 16 is placed the rod-shaped article 11 to be cut. In other words, the circle of the cutting knives 16 intersects the product 11 to be cut, so that the cutting knives 16 engage in the rod-shaped product 11 and thereby completely cut it off. But the cutting knives 18 or their cutting edges 18 are worn by the cutting. It is therefore preferred that the blade edge 18 is continually reground. It is thereby possible to choose to arrange a grinding device 19 in the circular region of the cutting knives 16, which grinding device can be brought into operative connection with the or each cutting knife 16. The grinding device 19 or its grinding disc 20 is adjustable in position relative to the cutting knife 16.
In the illustrated apparatus 10, the apparatus comprises a single tool holder 15. However, it is also possible for the device 10 to comprise a plurality of tool holders 15, which are arranged independently of one another. Alternatively, a plurality of tool holders 15 can also be arranged on a common drive shaft or the like. The distance between two adjacently arranged tool holders 15 is optionally adjustable. Such a device 10 comprising two or more knife holders 15 with one or more knife rests 17 can be used, for example, for cutting multi-segment filters.
The device 10 according to the invention can be constructed and applied as a single module. Preferably, however, the apparatus 10 is an integral component of a machine and system for manufacturing articles for the tobacco processing industry. The apparatus 10 can be applied in all the cases where it is necessary to cut products 11 conveyed transversely and axially on a drum. Preferably, the apparatus 10 is a component of a filter tipping machine or filter assembly device, wherein the device 10 is constructed and arranged in the manner previously described.
