Abstract

Description
技术领域
本发明涉及在由液晶构成的屏幕上进行显示的技术领域。更特别地,本发明涉及一种通过电子装置在包含双稳态液晶的载体装置上书写、显示以及删除信息的可重复使用的器件。
背景技术
在纸或塑料等柔性载体(flexible support)上书写以及删除的电子装置可从现有技术获知。
美国专利申请2004/0041799公开了一种利用电子笔在可重复使用的表面上书写或删除的方法。该表面包含双稳态染料(dye)涂层,通过施加方向与表面近似垂直的电场可改变染料的状态。当在一个方向施加电场时,就可以在表面书写,当在相反的方向施加电场时,则可以删除书写的内容。电场的方向决定了染料的状态。通常,人眼可以区分染料的两个状态。电子笔的用于删除的末端或者用于书写的尖端分别包含一个中心电极以及与中心电极同心的一对柱状电极。因为电极的形状生产起来相对复杂,所以电极比较昂贵。为了产生强电场,这些电极都为尖形。这些形状的缺点在于如果电极与表面接触,就有可能刮划表面,进而破坏双稳态燃料涂层。当不接触的时候,上述一对电极与表面之间的距离必须保持恒定以保持电场处于同一水平来改变染料的状态。在电极的移动过程中,除非使用昂贵的设备,否则难以保持距离恒定。为了改变染料的状态,需要引导电场服从以上所述条件(尤其是电场方向近似与表面垂直)。为了增加书写线条的宽度需要增加电场的强度(电压)。为了增加电场强度,一种常用的装置是电位计(potentiometer)。使用电位计的缺点在于增加了成本以及器件的尺寸。此外,装配电池的器件的缺点在于消耗电能,因为在器件工作的时候,例如在整个书写阶段,必须保持施加的电场。
美国专利5,956,113公开了一种双稳态反射屏,其包含簇生(cluster)在液晶中的二氧化硅(silica)微粒。选择二氧化硅微粒的浓度,使得消去或取消施加在屏幕导电涂层之间并能导致屏幕状态的上述变化的电场后,屏幕的反射或透明状态能够被保持下来。通过叠加不同的屏幕并且施加合适的电场,可根据入射光线形成彩色图像。比如,这些基于聚合物和液晶的多涂层屏幕可用于成像***中。这些多涂层屏幕比较复杂,因此非常昂贵,而且由于多涂层结构造成的厚度问题而不太容易携带。
为了能够在诸如卡片等便携式的载体上书写、显示(用作存储或记事板)以及删除信息,人们期望在器件的结构或构成以及使用成本(比如电池的消耗)方面,使用不要过于笨重、应该易于携带而且价格不贵的书写和显示器件。人们还期望用于在载体上书写的元件不会刮划载体的表面。此外,器件要易于使用,即能够方便快捷地书写以及删除信息。
发明内容
本发明的目的在于通过克服现有技术的缺点或问题,提出一种可重复使用的显示器件,在该器件上可以书写、显示以及删除信息。本发明的目的还在于提供一种没有特定限制的器件,尤其是与信息载体相关的用于书写的装置没有特定方向的限制,或者在器件工作过程中没有需要保持电场值的限制。
本发明的另一目的在于由书写元件以及书写和信息载体构成的组装部件轻便,这样易于携带,并且价格不太贵(降低的制造和使用成本以及可重复使用的显示载体)。
根据第一实施例,本发明的目的更具体地是一种用于书写并显示信息的可重复使用的器件,包括衬底,从衬底开始在衬底上依次形成:导电涂层;光学涂层,该涂层在其全部的暴露表面上能够均匀地吸收全部或部分环境光;透明物质的涂层,在该涂层中多个双稳态液晶被乳化(emulsioned);以及至少一个导电元件,上述器件的特征在于上述导电元件通过电压发生器与上述导电涂层电连接,以形成电路,而且该导电元件与上述透明涂层接触并可以在透明涂层(在该透明涂层中多个双稳态液晶被乳化)的表面上移动,以改变光在该透明涂层中的传输状态,从而产生信息的书写和显示,或者先前显示信息的删除。
根据上述第一实施例的一种变化,对于上述第一实施例的涂层的施加顺序,上述透明物质的涂层(在该透明涂层中多个双稳态液晶被乳化)和上述可吸收光的光学涂层的次序被颠倒。
在上述第一实施例的另一种变化中,上述导电涂层与上述可吸收光的光学涂层的顺序被颠倒。
在一特定实施例中,本发明的目的还在于提供一种如上所述(按照第一实施例以及两个变化)的器件,该器件同时还包括对光透明的保护涂层,该涂层附于衬底上的所有其他涂层上以保护它们免于被接触或刮划。
对于本发明器件,当导电元件与包含多个双稳态液晶的透明涂层接触以闭合电路时,通过在电路中传输的第一电压脉冲来执行光在透明涂层(在该透明涂层中多个双稳态液晶被乳化)中传输状态的改变,以产生信息的书写和显示。第一电压脉冲是通过先升高电压再降低的方式产生的,其幅度值(amplitude)优选为60V。
在本发明另一实施例中,通过施加一个电压到电路中以在导电元件的尖端与导电涂层之间产生电势差来产生光在透明涂层(在该透明涂层中多个双稳态液晶被乳化)中传输状态的改变,从而产生信息的书写和显示。所施的电压可以是直流电也可以是交流电。例如,电压的幅度优选60V。
以类似的方式,当导电元件与包含多个双稳态液晶的透明涂层接触以闭合电路时,通过在电路中传输的第二电压脉冲来执行光在透明涂层(在该透明涂层中多个双稳态液晶被乳化)中传输状态的改变,以删除书写和显示的信息。第二电压脉冲是通过先升高电压再降低的方式产生的,其幅度优选为100V。
在第一优选实施例中,能够吸收全部或部分光的光学涂层以及导电涂层形成一个同样的导电和光吸收涂层。
在第二优选实施例中,衬底和能够吸收全部或部分光的光学涂层形成能够吸收光的衬底。

本发明器件还可方便地用于打印机。在这种情况下,衬底为柔性薄片,其尺寸适于用于打印该薄片的打印机中。

关于双稳态液晶以及优选的胆甾相(cholesteric)双稳态液晶可从现有技术了解到。这些双稳态液晶(优选胆甾相)可用于实现本发明器件。双稳态液晶的优点在于为了保持其处于稳定状态永远不需要消耗任何能量(例如电能)。双稳态液晶被广泛用于在集成了双稳态液晶的屏幕或显示载体上进行显示的技术领域。美国专利6,637,650描述了一种显示元件,该元件的材料包含分散在聚合物中的双稳态液晶。这种材料被称作聚合物分散液晶(PDLC,Polymer Dispersed LiquidCrystals),通常具有薄的涂层。可优选使用聚合物分散胆甾相液晶(PDChLC,Polymer Dispersed Cholesteric Liquid Crystals)涂层。此外,优选通过在聚合物中乳化双稳态液晶成为小球(globule)来制造PDLC或PDChLC薄涂层。这样形成的薄涂层具有有利的柔性固体形态。该薄涂层能够与施加的电场反应,比如显示信息。该薄涂层具有两个光学状态:“透过”状态(良好的透过性),以及“反射”状态(反射)和散射。在电场脉冲的作用下,这些状态都可以通过改变液晶的取向而得到,然后这两个光学状态就可以保持不变,也就是在电场不存在时可以分别保持状态。其优点在于随着时间的过去可以节约电能,因为改变材料的光学状态仅仅需要偶发的脉冲。
图1表示本发明所述器件的第一实施例。本发明器件包括载体S,可以在该载体上书写、显示、以及删除信息。载体S包括作为底部的衬底1。衬底1优选为柔性。比如,衬底1为纸张。衬底也可以是类似于塑料薄片的柔性载体,比如塑料聚酯薄膜。从衬底1开始,依次在衬底1上形成导电涂层2;光学涂层3,该涂层在其全部的暴露表面上能够均匀地吸收全部或部分环境光;透明材料的涂层4,在该涂层中多个双稳态液晶5被乳化;以及对光透明的顶部保护涂层6。光学涂层3能够吸收全部光,或者仅仅吸收部分光,反射其余的光,例如类似于彩色涂层那样。透明物质4例如可以是鞣过的凝胶(tanned gelatin)。鞣过的凝胶在抗刮划或者机械接触导致的破坏方面具有优势。透明物质4还需要能够和电极形成良好的机械接触,即它的摩擦系数应该能使电极容易地滑动并且与其紧密接触。保护涂层6用于保护透明涂层4(在该涂层中多个双稳态液晶被乳化)免于被接触或者刮划。光学涂层3优选黑色或彩色纳米颜料形成的涂层,例如与聚合物混合的碳黑或者染料(dye)的材料。光学涂层3的电阻很高,即高于或等于108欧姆。透明涂层4例如可以是PDChLC涂层,在该涂层中多个双稳态液晶5被乳化成小球状。
本器件还包括导电元件7。导电元件7通过电压发生器8与导电涂层2电连接在一起以形成电路9。电路9例如可以具有线连接。电路9和导电涂层2的连接优选可拆除(removable)连接,即该连接可以从导电涂层2断开,例如一个简单的连接,其中夹子(grip)接在载体S的厚度方向,针脚(pin)与夹子固定在一起,针脚沿导电涂层2的厚度方向与导电涂层2接触。导电涂层2优选地由基于银的金属粒子或碳的导电墨水构成。导电涂层2也可以是透明的,并且由ITO(Indium TinOxide氧化铟锡)型物质构成,ITO型物质是一种基于铟、锡的氧化物的材料。
导电元件7与保护涂层6接触并可以在其表面上自由移动,以在接触时改变光在透明涂层4(该涂层中多个双稳态液晶被乳化)中的传输状态,从而产生书写(比如点或线)然后显示该书写。这意味着保护涂层6或者是由介电材料(不导电)构成或者足够细密(fine)以至于能够建立电接触同时不在作为电极的导电元件7的尖端10(导电)与透明涂层4(该涂层中多个双稳态液晶被乳化)之间产生干扰。例如,尖端10可以是圆的笔尖形状,或者是例如直径从数毫米到数十毫米的小平盘(flat disc)的形状。保护涂层6的厚度优选介于0.3微米到3微米之间。保护涂层6具有良好的表面电阻率(高于106欧姆)。为了限制建立电场(能够产生液晶状态的改变)所需的电压,要求保护涂层具有体积导电性(volume conductivity),这就是保护涂层6的表面电阻率优选处于106到109欧姆之间的原因。
在另一个简化实施例中(未描述),导电元件7与透明涂层4(在该涂层中多个双稳态液晶5被乳化)接触,以在接触时改变光在透明涂层4(在该涂层中多个双稳态液晶被乳化)中的传输状态,从而产生信息的书写和显示,或者所显示信息的删除。在这个简化实施例中,书写和显示载体S不包含保护涂层6。
在一优选实施例中,电压发生器8集成在导电元件7内。导电元件7优选地具有铅笔或钢笔的形状和尺寸以便于手持。导电元件7优选地装配能够变形的接触尖端10,以保证其与要接触的涂层能够紧密接触。例如,电极7可以由填充了碳粒子的硅构成,并且其尖端10的硬度为70Shore A。在导电元件7与载体S的顶涂层的表面接触的情况下,移动导电元件7可以产生并显示信息。
然而,在另一实施例中,可以使用多个导电元件7。比如,这些元件7可以集成在诸如打印机的设备中,并且例如通过打印机控制单元可以自动控制它们的移动。
导电元件尖端的形状与要产生的信息相关。可以移动导电元件7并且将其与涂层的表面接触,以在表面需要的位置产生和显示该信息。
图4表示图1所示的本发明所述器件的实施例(第一实施例)的一个变化。如图4所示,同图1的第一实施例相比,可吸收全部或部分环境光的光学涂层3与透明涂层4(在该涂层中多个双稳态液晶5被乳化)的次序被颠倒。在这一实施例中,导电涂层2是透明的。产生的信息透过载体S可见,在这种情况下,衬底1是透明的。
图5表示图1所示的本发明所述器件的实施例的一个变化。参照图5,同图1的第一实施例相比,可吸收全部或部分光的光学涂层3与导电涂层2的次序被颠倒。
图2表示本发明所述器件的第二实施例。能够吸收全部或部分环境光的光学涂层以及导电涂层形成一个同样的导电和光吸收光涂层2′。
图3表示本发明所述器件的第三实施例。衬底、能够吸收全部或部分环境光的光学涂层、以及导电涂层形成同样的衬底1′。衬底1′能够导电和吸收光。
当导电元件7利用尖端10与包含多个双稳态液晶的乳化涂层接触以闭合电路时,通过在电路中传输的第一电压脉冲来执行光在透明涂层中(在该涂层中多个双稳态液晶被乳化)的传输状态的改变以产生信息的书写和显示。
当导电元件与包含多个双稳态液晶的乳化涂层接触以闭合电路时,通过在电路中传输的第二电压脉冲来执行光在透明涂层(在透明涂层中多个双稳态液晶被乳化)中的传输状态的改变。以删除信息的书写和显示。
按照图6,为了书写和删除,可以按照曲线11所示的顺序提供电压脉冲。曲线11表示作为时间t的函数的电压脉冲V的值。这些电压脉冲(比如对应于值v1和v2)的持续时间为Δt。Δt的值优选10、50、或100毫秒的其中之一。比如,电压脉冲可通过放置在导电元件7外表面上的双位开关(two-position button)控制。如果要在载体S上书写,如曲线11所示,电压脉冲的值应该先增加然后瞬间下降(依照陡峭的前沿),其中电压值v2降到0;v2在40V到80V之间。如果要在载体S上删除,如曲线11所示,电压脉冲的值应该先增加然后瞬间下降(依照陡峭的前沿),其中电压值v1降到0;v1在80V到120V之间。v1(删除电压)通常高于v2(书写电压)。电源优选直流电,然而,也可以使用交流电源。以上给出的电脉冲的电压和持续时间仅仅作为例子,因为这些参数依赖于所用液晶的类型、液晶在聚合物中混合的方式、以及在衬底上沉积的涂层的厚度。而且,所施电压的数值还与显示时所看到的光密度(optical density)的水平(level)有关。这样,根据电极尖端在载体S上的位置改变电压值,就可以显示多个光密度:这样就能得到一幅图像。因此,在本发明器件中,可以使用其他的电脉冲的电压值以及持续时间。
本发明器件可方便地用于卡片中。显示器可呈现随时间改变的可视信息。通过使信息可见,显示器可方便地替换记录信息的磁条。卡片还可以附带电子存储器。智能卡被广泛使用并且可以满足不同的需要:银行、电话、交通等等。通常,类似于文字数字代码(alphanumericcodes)的信息(用于识别人或者对应于特定服务)显示在智能卡上。然而,智能卡用户自己也需要在卡上暂时地显示信息。比如,临时显示的信息可以是与银行账户有关的操作的计算结果、电话号码、到期日、或者任何其他与职能卡有关或无关的信息。这样,显示的信息就可以传达例如写在卡片存储器里的信息。因此,信息书写和显示载体S可以方便地集成在卡片的一个窗口内。书写和显示载体必须使用与卡片材料兼容的材料制造。可以将载体集成在卡片中,例如将书写和显示载体粘在卡片上、或者夹在卡片上、甚至压入卡片,和/或可能焊装在卡片的开口中。举例来说,书写和显示载体1、1′可以由聚对苯二甲酸乙二醇酯制成,厚度为0.175毫米。另一个变化是书写和显示载体使用具有低表面电阻率(优选小于10欧姆)的金属。例如,窗口为数个平方厘米大小的方形表面区域,并放置于卡片的可用空白表面内。该表面也可以对应于卡片的整个表面区域,通常等于数十平方厘米。
尽管已经结合特定的优选实施例对本发明及其应用进行了说明,然而明显可以在权利要求范围内产生各种变化和修改。
Claims (22)
1、一种用于书写和显示信息的可重复使用的器件,包括衬底(1),从衬底(1)开始在衬底(1)上依次形成:
导电涂层(2);
能够吸收全部或部分环境光的光学涂层(3);
透明物质的透明涂层(4),在该涂层中多个双稳态液晶(5)被乳化;以及
至少一个导电元件(7),
上述器件的特征在于导电元件(7)通过电压发生器(8)与导电涂层电连接以形成电路(9),而且导电元件(7)与其中多个双稳态液晶(5)被乳化的透明涂层(4)的表面接触并可以在透明涂层(4)的表面上移动,以产生光在所述透明涂层中传输状态的改变,从而产生信息的书写和显示。
2、如权利要求1所述的器件,其特征在于导电元件(7)与其中多个双稳态液晶(5)被乳化的透明涂层(4)的表面接触并可以在透明涂层(4)的表面上移动,以产生光在所述透明涂层中传输状态的改变,从而产生所显示信息的删除。
3、如权利要求1或2所述的器件,其特征在于其中多个双稳态液晶(5)被乳化的透明物质的透明涂层(4)与光学涂层(3)的次序被颠倒。
4、如权利要求1或2所述的器件,其特征在于导电涂层(2)与光学涂层(3)的顺序被颠倒。
5、如权利要求4所述的器件,其特征在于衬底和能够吸收全部或部分光的光学涂层形成能够吸收光的衬底。
6、如权利要求1或2所述的器件,其特征在于能够吸收全部或部分光的光学涂层和导电层形成一个同样的导电和光吸收涂层(2′)。
7、如权利要求1或2所述的器件,其特征在于衬底、能够吸收全部或部分光的光学涂层、以及导电涂层形成一个同样的导电和光吸收衬底(1′)。
8、如权利要求1至7中任意一项所述的器件,还包括沉积在所有其他涂层上用于保护其他涂层免于被接触或刮划的对光透明的保护涂层(6)。
9、如权利要求8所述的器件,其特征在于保护涂层(6)的厚度介于0.3到3微米之间。
10、如权利要求9所述的器件,其特征在于保护涂层(6)的表面电阻率高于106欧姆。
11、如权利要求1至8中任意一项所述的器件,其中当导电元件(7)与包含多个双稳态液晶(5)的透明涂层(4)接触以闭合电路时,通过在电路(9)中传输的第一电压脉冲(v2)来执行光在其中多个双稳态液晶(5)被乳化的透明涂层(4)中的传输状态的改变,以产生信息的书写和显示。
12、如权利要求11所述的器件,其特征在于通过先升高再降低电压(v2)来实现第一电压脉冲,其中所述电压(v2)的幅度介于40V到80V之间。
13、如权利要求1至8中任意一项所述的器件,其中当导电元件(7)与包含多个双稳态液晶(5)的透明涂层(4)接触以闭合电路时,通过在该电路(9)中传输的直流电压或者交流电压来执行光在其中多个双稳态液晶(5)被乳化的透明涂层(4)中的传输状态的改变,以产生信息的书写和显示。
14、如权利要求2至8中任意一项所述的器件,其中当导电元件(7)与包含多个双稳态液晶(5)的透明涂层(4)接触以闭合电路时,通过在该电路中传输的第二电压脉冲(v1)来执行光在其中多个双稳态液晶(5)被乳化的透明涂层(4)中的传输状态的改变,以删除信息的书写和显示。
15、如权利要求14所述的器件,其特征在于通过先升高再降低电压(v1)来实现第二电压脉冲,其中该电压(v1)的幅度介于80V到120V之间。
16、如权利要求1至8中任意一项所述的器件,包括至少一个导电元件(7),例如具有接触尖端(10)的铅笔状电极。
17、如权利要求16所述的器件,其特征在于接触尖端(10)为圆形铅笔尖形状或者平盘形状。
18、如权利要求16和17两者之一所述的器件,其特征在于接触尖端(10)能够导电并且可变形以保证其与要接触的涂层紧密接触并移动。
19、如权利要求1至8中任意一项所述的器件,其特征在于衬底(1)、(1′)为柔性载体,比如纸张或塑料薄片。
20、如权利要求1至8中任意一项所述的器件,其特征在于衬底(1)、(1′)是表面电阻率小于10欧姆的金属载体。
21、如权利要求1至8中任意一项所述的器件,其特征在于衬底(1)、(1′)是诸如会员卡等卡片的全部或部分表面。
22、如权利要求1至8中任意一项所述的器件,其特征在于衬底(1)、(1′)为柔性薄片,其尺寸适于用于打印该薄片的打印机中。
