Description

Modular pressure swing adsorption process and device
The application is to be that April 26, application number in 2004 are 200480016669.4, denomination of invention is divided an application for " modular pressure swing adsorption process and device " application the applying date.
Technical field
The present invention relates to pressure-variable adsorption (PSA) processing method.PSA is a kind of method that is usually used in gas purification. The typical application comprises: from admixture of gas, separate hydrogen, and separation of helium from natural gas, purifying exhaust air, the air blowing in the manufacture process of oxygen, nitrogen and/or argon separates.
Background technology
Most PSA system is subject to the restriction of their huge finished products and residual airflow fluctuation. These fluctuations need sizable storage or surge tank to come the abundant damping of airflow fluctuation so that the downstream processing equipment that links to each other with the PSA system obtains suitable function.
Generally utilize traditionally PSA to circulate to carry out plant-scale gas and separate, this circulation has at least one pressure equalization step to so that the product fragment that improves pressurized with given purity recovers. In the PSA circulation, the fragment of increase recovers to have reduced the gas flow that resists in raffinate surge tank, and has guaranteed the how subcontinuous mobile of pressurized finished product gas.Circulation with three or more equalization step is known.Another step that is used for reducing gas in the prior art is the circulation that operation has many equilibriums and many containers in independent processing technology. An example with PSA system of many containers and many equalization step is the people's such as Fuderer U.S. Patent No. 3,986,849, and it has been described has the nearly machining chain of ten absorbers and 55 valves. In commercial Application, except very large equipment, usually substantially exceed very big increase on the complexity with the more complicated PSA circular correlation with one or more isostasies with the high-energy of the Loss Correlation of recoverable product and running cost. Therefore, no matter for pressurised product or residual gas, most of equipment have all utilized very large surge tank.
All types of PSA system except especially those have a plurality of equalization step, also all is subject to strict restriction owing to the complexity of its height and subsidiary huge number of spare parts thereof. This complexity has not only increased the possibility of element fault greatly, but also has greatly increased size, installation time and the material cost of system. Most of PSA system is the independent point with failure system of remarkable exception, such as U.S. Patent No. 4,234,322 and the U. S. application sequence No.10/269 people such as De Meyer, in 064 in the disclosed method.Even in typical method, PSA equipment also must be closed at last in order to defective element is carried out maintenance.Because close and cause a large amount of losses of the production time of whole process facility in this pass, so it is very unwelcome. In addition, when PSA is connected to high-temperature process for example when hydrocarbon gas reformer, autothermal reformer, selective oxidation reformer, ammonia plant or ethylene cracking device and since close with restart during life-span of the high mechanical stress that causes thereby the treating apparatus that links to each other may greatly shorten.
The people's such as Keefer U.S. Patent No. 6,051,050 has been described the system that utilizes parallel a plurality of rotation PSA modules obtaining more fully system capability, but it fails open method or the strategy that is used for operating these modules when fault occurs. Those that accept in the rotary module of the people's such as Keefer patent and the commercial Application have very large difference, and do not meet the same type of independent some valve fault of valve PSA device. The pattern of these faults is extended the seal failure of crossing gradually. The module of the people's such as Keefer patent also has a large number of active bed, and they and product variations and residue gas stream velocity fluctuation have less relation. The people's such as Keefer patent and U.S. Patent No. 5,112,367, U.S. Patent No. 5,268,021 and U.S. Patent No. 5,366, the low pulsation rotary module in the same invention described in 541 is because they have utilized slipper seal therefore can suffer inevitable leakage. The reduction that this leakage has caused purity and product to recover, and owing to the maintenance issues that produces limited sealing life.High pressure has aggravated these problems, makes rotary module be compared to typical upper valve PSA device for important industrial separation and more is out of favour.
Because huge size and their very high costs of typical upper valve PSA system, therefore still do not expect to provide very much reserve PSA ability to interrupt to prevent process to them, especially for having isostasy and having in a large number the upper valve PSA system of the adsorbent bed of subsidiary high complexity.
So the present inventor is complete a kind of improved device of the PSA system for the advanced person is proposed in conjunction with them, it greatly reduces top U. S. application sequence No.10/269, the complexity of the PSA device that utilizes isostasy described in 067, and a kind of method of the PSA of execution circulation is proposed, the method has reduced significantly carries out top U. S. application sequence No.10/269, the quantity of the valve that the PSA circulation described in 064 is required.

The specific embodiment
Describe below with reference to accompanying drawings embodiments of the invention in detail. In the following description, composed component and device with essentially identical function are represented by same Reference numeral, and only just carry out when needed the description of repetition.
Fig. 1 is the flow schematic diagram of PSA of the present invention system 1, and this system has pressurized feed menifold 2, pressurization finished product menifold 3 and low pressure raffinate manifold 4.Finished product menifold 3 is provided with finished product surge tank 5 and raffinate manifold 4 is provided with raffinate surge tank 6.In processing of the present invention, at least the one PSA module 10 and the 2nd PSA module 20 are connected to and supply gas, finished product and raffinate manifold. In the embodiment in figure 1, eight PSA modules 10 of parallel work-flow, 20,30,40,50,60,70 and 80.In processing of the present invention, can utilize any amount of parallel module, and the selection of adopting eight modules only as an example.
The PSA module is connected to feed manifold 2 by its respective isolation valves 11,21,31,41,51,61,71 and 81.The PSA module is connected to finished product menifold 3 by its respective isolation valves 12,22,32,42,52,62,72 and 82.The PSA module is connected to raffinate manifold 4 by its respective valve 13,23,33,43,53,63,73 and 83.When all these valves were in their open position, each PSA module is parallel linking to each other fluidly.Independent PSA module can be isolated from fluid manifold to the valve of menifold by closing link block. For example, can isolation module 20 by shut off valve 21,22 and 23.In case module is isolated, just can carry out in this module and safeguard, remaining installation module is still being produced simultaneously. If discovery module 20 tools are defective or the element of fault, then can pass through shut off valve 21,22 and 23 it is processed menifold 2,3 and 4 isolation from PSA, then can carry out maintenance.PSA module 10,30,40,50,60,70 and 80 can continue operate as usual.Maximum system capacity will be 7/8 of initial capacity.Slightly reduce by can find this in the whole capacity with the remaining PSA module of higher operation cycle frequencies operations, perhaps the Capacity design by will be additional can be controlled in the whole system and thisly slightly reduce, when moving with the flow rate regime that improves a little, just great mis-behave can not experienced like this.
Fig. 2 shows another advantage of PSA processing of the present invention.Fig. 2 illustrates for the low pressure raffinate flowrate of four different operation strategies of the PSA system 1 of Fig. 1 curve map than the time. These traces are aimed at through U. S. application sequence No.10/269, three equilibriums, seven PSA after 064 the processing, but all be identical for any PSA circulating effect. The PSA circulation that utilization is less than three equilibriums will illustrate out the pulsation in the raffinate flowrate of highly significant.
If operate the PSA system in phase to move its PSA circulation separately by synchronous each PSA module, the pulsation of then flowing is identical when operating with independent machining chain, and overall flow rate changing less than 1000 units with between greater than 17000 units, and the factor is 17:1.In processing of the present invention, out of phase operate the PSA module array, the generation of residual gas is offset period each other like this.In the first embodiment of the present invention, eight modules of PSA system are divided into two groups of operations, and per four is one group, organize out-phase 180 degree with another for every group and operate.Fig. 2 illustrates this and has caused raffinate flowrate to change between about 1500 and 9000 units. This is about 6: 1 ratio, and it is almost trebly less than the situation of art methods by the independent machining chain of operation, or the not only situation of the art methods of a plurality of modules of parallel but also homophase of operation. In this first embodiment, half of every group of all effective module of utilization. For the example of eight modular systems, this has caused four pack modules. If a module failure and necessary isolated for repair, system then keeps 7/8 capacity, but the raffinate flowrate waveform can change owing to the asymmetric attribute of two groups of containers.Flow velocity by three containers of residue in this group can increase and reaches 33% during some treatment steps, and this is the factor that prevents that the fluidisation of adsorbing and/or fluid vibration from must consider in passage and/or valve system.
In alternative structure of the present invention, module is divided into four groups and each group out-phase 90 degree operation.Fig. 2 shows the raffinate flowrate that causes to be changed between about 2000 and 6000, approximately the ratio of 3:1.This is the only about half of of the change in flow that experiences among the first embodiment of therein two pack module out-phase 180 degree operation, and is the sixth of the variation of art methods.Although reducing of this change in flow is significant, it has reduced the quantity for every pack module in two groups in the example of eight modular systems. If must repair a module, then the change in flow of other module of this group will reach 100% in some circulation steps, and this is the factor that will consider in design containers and their interconnected valves and flow channel.
In another alternative structure of the present invention, eight pack modules are with 45 degree cycle offset work.Compare like this reduction that in the flow velocity fluctuation, only produces appropriateness with four groups, the average larger variation in the flow velocity when causing simultaneously a module to repair. For example in the example of eight modular systems, each module operates independently.
Although describe in Fig. 2 and show the even number group, the Odd number group also is feasible. In fact any amount of group all is feasible.Furtherly, all can produce every group of any amount of module with any amount of module.Above-described embodiment supposes that this group is spent with 180 degree, 90 and 45 degree come operate out of phase.PSA circulation for each module that provides can require different phasings with minimum production, residual gas or the changes in flow rate of the two.
Preferably, each group has the container of equal number in order to minimize the changes in flow rate and the change in flow that minimizes by any given module of whole system, thus the problem of avoiding adsorbing fluidisation and fluid vibration. For of the present invention each use, the balance between the module number of group quantity and every group must be optimized. In the application that minimizes the connection device downtime, one has every group of system of less group that all has a large amount of parallel modules is first-selected.Do not have in the important system of flow velocity fluctuation the group of less module to be arranged in a large number a reliability.
Fig. 3 a illustrates the preferred equipment of PSA module of the present invention.PSA module 100 has 7 adsorption chambers 101 that are arranged between a feed manifold 102 and the finished product menifold 103.Through the adsorption chamber maintenance of connecting bolt 104 pressurizations and the fixed relationship of menifold.Feed manifold and finished product menifold all are provided with a plurality of valves 105 that are used for carrying out the PSA circulation.
For at U. S. application sequence No.10/269,7 contactors of execution, 3 equalization of pressure circulations of describing in 064 are a particularly preferred embodiment in the PSA module 100 of Fig. 3 a illustrated.Equipment among the present invention also can be preferred for carrying out other PSA circulation of other circulation disclosed herein and correlation technique.
Side cross-sectional view 3b shows an independent adsorption chamber that is provided with Attraction block 110 101.This Attraction block can be a kind of independent adsorpting type, perhaps can be to be made by the adsorption layer of absorption mixture or different in kind. The constituent of Attraction block and the selection of size are circulated to stipulate by technological process factor, separation of interest and PSA, and and do not limit the present invention in any way.Adsorption chamber is connected to inlet manifold 102 and discharge manifold 103 hermetically.
Fig. 4 shows adsorption chamber among Fig. 3 b and the exploded view of menifold.Adsorption chamber 101 advantageously is assembled to the seal boss 111 on inlet manifold and the discharge manifold. These seal bosses are depicted as same feature in the drawings, but if necessary, they can be different shapes. Each seal boss is provided with the seal 112 of at least one fluid-tight of impact between adsorption chamber and menifold.Although figure 4 illustrates preferred inner radial sealing characteristics, can also provide the sealing of wiper seal or outer radial. It is the node that sealing or seal boss can not affect the rigid structure between menifold and adsorption chamber.
In the PSA of correlation technique adsorption chamber, adsorption chamber is fixed on end flange parts or the menifold with rigid structural relation. The connection of this rigidity undesirably causes local buckling stress.Because the cycle characteristics of the stress state in PSA equipment, these moments of flexure may undesirably cause the substantive issue that the premature fatigue of device is damaged. In the situation that this too early damage of hydrogen PSA accelerates especially significantly, because hydrogen embrittlement can affect the various metals structural material.Thereby need especially non-structural seal member among the present invention, because it has promoted the use of the thinner member of identical fatigue life.In addition, because stopping that the structure connection between the menifold of pressure does not have to contact with the liquid that is purifying, so can use the other high-strength material that significantly is subject to the hydrogen embrittlement impact. For example, hardened steel can be used for connecting bolt 104, the unacceptable material of hydrogen system related art construction.
Another advantage of sealing device of the present invention is that different materials can be for the manufacture of adsorption chamber, menifold and connecting bolt parts.Thereby the intensity of picture fiberglass reinforced plastic and so on is good but material that hardness is little can be used for adsorption chamber, and the little hard material of intensity that looks like aluminium or closed pore polymeric foam and so on can be used for menifold. At last, the third material can be used for connecting bolt. When the special application of one of needs, the autonomy of every kind of material of independent optimization promotes weight and/or material cost significantly to reduce potentially.
Fig. 4 shows and is provided with helping from exporting radially the radially seal boss 111 of the concave surface internal mode of the assignment of traffic of flow distributor 114 of flow distributor 113 and entrance. As shown in FIG. 4, these seal bosses can be the parts that separate, and perhaps can integrally form with menifold.Radially flow distributor is communicated with flow channel 115 and 116 fluids of the flow channel in discharge manifold in inlet manifold.Be communicated with chamber 120 through flow distributor 114 flowing liquids from passage 115.This chamber is limited by female part and the absorption holding plate 122 of seal boss, and the absorption holding plate is supported by snap ring 123.PSA device among Fig. 3 and 4 illustrates for having inlet manifold in bottom of device and having the situation of discharge manifold at the top.If device is installed with opposite direction, snap ring 123 will be on the opposite side of holding plate so.
Advantageously, can be the granule for absorbing of holding plate 122 supply fine mesh layer 124 with the maintenance minor diameter. This stratum reticulare can be made by gauze, fabric or non-woven polymer, glass or other fabric.Stratum reticulare 124 and holding plate 122 preferred fit have and hold them in together in order to assemble and provide the radial seal ring 125 of the other row of radial seal to present fluid or particle.Although it is preferred that this combination keeps assembly, can be successful equally utilize other adsorbent support means, for example apparent other device of metal, the polymer with open architecture or ceramic foam, non-woven mat or those of ordinary skills.
Discharge manifold preferably is supplied with similar holding plate assembly, except from top location snap ring 123 to keep holding plate.Elastic layer 130 most preferably is provided between upper holding plate and adsorbent. Then the extruding by port of export holding plate assembly keeps elastic layer, and this elastic layer is in Attraction block 131 load of exerting pressure.Preferred elastomeric material also has the function of filtration to get rid of the dust particle from the fluidisation that enters menifold. The example of preferred material be reticulated polymer foam, fabric or non-woven cushion or as those by the natural fiber elasticity impregnated pads made of coir for example. If necessary, can also flexible member be set in import or the bottom of adsorption chamber.
Inlet manifold 102 is provided with air delivery valve 135 and exhaust gas valve 136.These valves valve seat interior with being formed at menifold matches.Intake valve 135 is by passage 115 and radially flow distributor 114 connection between parallel feed flow channel 137 and adsorption chamber 101.All interior adsorption chambers of feed flow channel 137 valve by separately and device are communicated with. This can the figure shows valve in the closed position 135 and do not stoped by valve 135 essence by flowing of the plenum duct 137 between the adsorption chamber in the device as seen from Figure 4, and no matter it is in is opened or the closed position. The flow channel 137 that has enough areas of section by setting to be guaranteeing can to guarantee this feature through the existing flow of passage, and this is for U. S. application sequence No.10/269, and the PSA circulation embodiment in 064 is that the utmost point needs.Exhaust gas valve 136 is connected with the exhaust gas flow path 138 that walks abreast equally, and exhaust gas flow path 138 is communicated with all adsorption chamber 101 fluids of device by valve separately.Shown in the drawings of the menifold of machining, and the passage component 115 that forms by boring, so stopper 140 arranges and is used for the end of seal channel 115.If for example cast to form menifold by pure shape process, so just do not need stopper 140.Same stopper can be replaced by sensor, safety relief valve or other annex. In addition, flow channel 115 137 can be provided with optional feature in order to the connection of sensor, sample being reclaimed part etc. is provided with being connected.Providing of this optional feature limits the present invention in no instance.
Discharge manifold 103 is provided with finished product valve 141, balanced valve 142 and balanced valve 143 equally. These valves are connected with finished product menifold 144, the first equalization conduit 145 and the second equalization conduit 146.The valve separately that each of these raceway grooves is passed through is connected with each adsorption chamber fluid of PSA device.Shown device has by 7 contactors and 3 isostasies in present inventor's the U. S. application 10/269,064 for particularly preferred PSA circulation.Other PSA circulation can be used valve and the raceway groove of varying number. For example the circulation of 6 in the above-mentioned application or 5 adsorption chambers can be saved equalization conduit shown in the figure of each adsorption chamber and valve.
Equalization conduit 145 additionally is provided with the current limiting element 147 of porous, and current limiting element 147 is kept by locating ring 148.Alternatively, this locating ring can be used for fixing fluid control orifice plate.Other element can also be set, for example check-valves or control valve for fluids. These parts can only be provided for parallel flow channel of shown here, also can be used for a plurality of passages.
Device as described herein has utilized such as U. S. application sequence No.10/269, passes through the air operated piston valve described in 067.Alternatively, these valves can be solenoid operated, hydraulically operated or by mechanical drive system for example camshaft is mechanically operated. The selection that drives for valve does not limit the present invention, does not reduce its advantage yet.Described device can utilize all valves of single size in addition. The valve of size and Change of types can be favourable be combined in the device of the present invention in order to obtain the combination of flow properties of expectation.Although what describe is the most preferred device that has utilized parallel flow channel, can also not adopt by providing the internal flow parts that need to carry out traditional PSA circulation of parallel flow channel.
Menifold of the present invention can be made by the machining solid material, perhaps by machining by casting or by brazing, soldering or glued joint the material layer parts near net form of making that combine are made.In addition, menifold can be made integral component, or some parts are kept together and is sealed to form type by the fluid seal as packing ring and so on securing member or other device.Selection to manufacturing technology does not limit advantage of the present invention.
