Les fig. 1, 2 et3 représentent un mo teur dans lequel le cylindre compresseur et le cylindre moteur sont disposés en tandem, la distribution étant réalisée par l'arbre ci-eux portant les pistons-palettes des cylin dres compresseur et moteur; La fig. 1 est une vue en coupe longitu dinaleà travers le moteur;
Les fig. 2 et3 sont des vues en coupe transversale, respectivement suivant les ligues À-B et C-D de la fig. 1 ; _ Les fig. 4,5 et6, représentent un mo teurà explosions comprenant un cylindre compresseur et-tin cylindre moteur disposés en parallèle, avec une chambre d'explosion séparée,à volume variable, disposée entre les deux cylindres, la distribution étant réa lisée par des robinets rotatifs; La fig. 4 est une vue en coupe trans- -iersale axiale;
Le cerclede Porbite de l'obturateurc in tercepte (fig. 2) sur celui du cylindre a un segment double, dont la flèche correspondà la hauteur du piston-palette e, augmentée d'un jeu de quelques millimètres, de sorte que le, cerclede l'orbite de l'obturateurc intercepte encore sur le cercle extérieur du moyeud2 un double segment;

Les arbresf du piston-palette et el de l'obturateur reposentà leurs extrémités sur des roulementsà billesf 1 etc8, logés et centrés dans des carters qui enveloppent les pignonsf2 C_'# les mettentà l'abri de la poussière et constituent des cuvettes de grais sage; les arbresf el sont percés d'titi con duit axial, respectivement fl et c\ pont pet-- mettre la lubrification des parties frottantes;
La compression cesse lorsque le piston-palette est venu se placer dans la position repré sentée en traits pleinsà la fig. 2 dans la quelle la lumière i n'est plus en regardde la lumièrej du moyeudl;
puis passera dans tout le cylindre où il continueraà se détendre jusqu'à la pression atmosphérique et com- plètera la cylindrée aspirée précédemment. La lumière j s'ouvrant (fig. 3), le mélange gazeux comprimé dans le cylindre compres seur passe entre la face arrière du piston- palette e et l'obturateur du cylindre moteur;
La distribution est réalisée par deux ro binets rotatifs in ml, dont le premier établit ou. interrompt la communication par ml entre le #cylindrc compresseur et la chambre d'ex plosion1, taudis que le deuxième, nil, ouvre ou obture la lumière m3, , qui met en coin- munication cette chambre1 avec le cylindre moteur;
L'étanchéité sur les flancs de chacun des robinets in in' est assurée par des plateaux IÎ116, munis d'un segment élastique sur, leur périphérie; un ressortà boudin m,'I (fi-. 6) pi-esse l'un des plateaux contre la clef du robinet quià son tour frotte contre l'autre plateau d'étanchéité;
ces plateaux in3 sont maintenus en place par des bouchons iiil. Les arbres ii de ces robinets, venus de fonte avec la clef du robinet, portentà l'une de leurs extrémités des pignons0, de même dianiè- tre, en prise entre eux, de manièreà coin- muniquer aux deux robinets des mouvements de rotation en sens inverseà la même vitesse;
Les robinets distributeurs font le môme nombre de tours que les pistons-palettes e et les obturateursc. La chambre d'explosion1 présente la forme d'une pyramide tronquée, surmontée d'un corps cylindrique dans lequel peut se déplacer un piston 12, de manièreà faire varier le volume de cette chambre1; à cet effet ce piston, garni de segments d'étanchéité., porte une tige filetéeP passantà traversle cha peau on couverturel' de la chambre d'explo sion, formant écrou;

' Dans la forme de réalisation des fie. 4. 5 et6, le couvercle amovibled comporte, de même que le fonddl venu de fonte avecles cylindres a etb, 111, Moyen d2 faisant saillie à l'intérieur du cylindre a du piston-palette e; ce piston-palette e tournant dans l'espace annulaire eompris entre les moyeux d,2 et l'alésage du cylindre a, présente la forme d'un T (fi-.5);

Rotary piston apparatus. The present invention relates to ni) apparatus with rotary piston, which can receive of many applications such as compressors, pumps ,. motors or the like.
It is characterized by the combination of a piston in the form of a pallet, rotating in a cylinder, and a cylindrical shutter, arranged parallel to the piston and animated by a movement of rotation at the same speed as this, in a cylinder which intercepts on the cylinder of the piston a double segment whose arrow corresponds to the height of the piston-pallet increased by a certain clearance, this shutter comprising a cavity whose profile is determined by the involute resulting from the revolution of the piston-vane, increased by a sufficient clearance to prevent any contact of the pistori-vane with the walls of this cavity of the shutter.
The attached drawings represent, by by way of example, two examples of execution of the object of. invention.
Figs.  1,  2 and  3  represent an engine in which the compressor cylinder and  the  engine cylinder are arranged in tandem, the distribution being carried out by the 'shaft here carrying the piston-pallets of the compressor and engine cylinders; Fig.  1  is a longitudinal sectional view  through  through the engine;
Figs. 2 and  3  are cross-sectional views, respectively along the A-B  and  C-D leagues of FIG.   1 ; _  Figs. 4,  5  and  6,  represent an  explosion  engine comprising a compressor cylinder and an engine cylinder arranged in parallel, with a chamber of separate explosion,  with  variable volume, placed between the two cylinders, the distribution being carried out by rotary valves; Fig. 4 is an axial cross-sectional view;
Figs. 5 and 6 are sectional and transverse views, respectively along lines E-F and G-H of fig. 4.
In the form of embodiment of FIGS. 1, 2 and 3, the compressor element of the apparatus comprises a cylinder a surmounted by another cylinder b, having the same diameter and same length as the. first and forming the orbit of a shutter c, the whole forming a double cylinder, closed on one side by a bolted cover d with interposition of a gasket, and, #W On the other side, by a bottom d ', come of cast iron with the body of cylinders a, and b and which has protruding, to inside the lower cylindera, a central hub d2 .
In the annular space between the cylinder a and the hub d- 'rotates a piston-pallet e, forming a body with Parbref, rotating along the axis of the cylinder a- this piston e is provided with strips to shoulder and subjected to the action of springs to coil e2 # which ensure the tightness of the seal between the piston-vane e, on the one hand, and the inner surface of cylinder a and the outer surface of hub d2, on the other hand.
The circle  of  Orbit of the obturator  c  intercepts (fig. 2) on that of the cylinder has a double segment, the arrow of which corresponds  to </ B > the height of the piston-vane e, increased by a play of a few millimeters, so that the circle  of  the orbit of the shutter  c  still intercepts on the outer circle of the hub  d2  a double segment;
the length of the rope of the latter is such that it makes it possible to have, in one oit several grooves dug in the means d- ", of the sliders d3 subjected to the action of springs, which , by resting on the shutter c, ensure the tightness of the contact; the grooves in which these strips are housed wedge one or more shoulders which limit the travel of the strips and prevent them from completely coming out of their housings .
The cylindrical shutter c is wedged on a shaft and disposed parallel to the shaft f of the piston and driven by it, at the same speed of rotation, by toothed pinions C2 f 2 , of the same diameter ,. wedged on the ends of these shafts el and f.
In the shutter c is hollowed out a pocket yes cavity & whose -profile is determined by the development described by the revolution of the piston-pallet e; this profile is increased by a certain clearance, from 1 to 2 m / m, so as to prevent the piston-vane from coming in engagement with this cavity and the shutter.
In the inner surface of the b orbit of the shutter are also hollowed out C4 # shrink bands to reduce the friction of the shutter in either orbit; these bands must extend over an arc less than than that of the cavity c3, with one edge of the latter in contact with the surface of the cylinder b when the opposite edge is located opposite one of these depressions. -A cl, ruler subjected to the action of a to coil spring in a to shoulder groove is arranged in cylinder b near where it is connected to cylinder a.
The lateral sealing of the shutter is ensured by -plates (; 6 concentric to the shaft and housed in the cover d and in the bottom of and pressed against the sides of the shutter by springs with coil C 7. Similar plates I ensure the tightness of the seal between the cover d < / B> and the hub of the shaft f; of the plates #:
# el housed in grooves made in the end faces of the piston-pallet e and fitting into the sealing strips' of the latter, ensure a tight seal between the piston-pallet e on the one hand, and the cover and bottom d cl ' of the other cylinder by t. It is to < / B> note that the return springs of the strips and sealing plates are not subject to the effect of the high pressures of the fluids and gases on the rise where they must cause the friction to obtain the vise ê.
The shaft f of the piston-pallet e coniports segments f ' which form a labyrinth and ensure the seal between this shaft and the hub of in which he does everything.
The shafts  f  of the piston-vane and el of the shutter rest  at  their ends on   ball bearings  f 1 </ B> and  c8,  housed and centered in housings which surround the gears  f2  C _ '# protect them   from dust and constitute sinks of fat wise; the  f  el shafts are drilled with axial con ducting, respectively fl and c \ pont pet - to lubricate the friction parts;
other grease cups a 'bl are arranged at suitable points to complete the lubrication. The engine cylinder (fig. 3) is absolutely identical as the construction of the compressor cylinder (fig. 2); the shaft f carrying the vane pistons e of the compressed cylinders and motor, is pierced with an axial channel f 1 and is provided, opposite the hub d 2 of each cylinder a, with a port i which, in combination with a port j provided in the hub dl </ B> ensures the distribution.
The operation is as follows : When the vane piston e of the compressor cylinder occupies the position shown in dotted lines to in fig. 2, the suction of the fuel mixture, entering the pipe al, begins on the rear face of the vane piston, while on the front face of the piston begins the phase of compression of the gas mixture * sucked during the revolution piston (in direction of arrow).
The light i of the f tree will then discover the light j of the hub d 2 # of itself as the gas mixture, compressed between the pistoii-pallet e and the shutter c, will be driven back by these ports ji and the axial channel f 1 of the shaft f into the engine cylinder.
The compression ceases when the piston-vane has come to be placed in the position shown in solid lines  to  in fig. 2 in which the light i is no longer facing   the light  j  of the hub  dl;
part of the compressed gas remains trapped in the space between the piston-vane and the shutter c, the cavity & has not yet been discovered. A at this time, the light j of hub d2 is about to be discovered by light i of shaft f of engine cylinder (fig. 3). The pistons and the shutters continuing their revolution, the gas mixture from the harmful space of the compressor cylinder (fig. 2) will first relax in the cavity & of the shutter,
then will pass through the entire cylinder where it will continue  to  expand to atmospheric pressure and complete the displacement previously aspirated. When the light j opens (fig.  3),  the gas mixture compressed in the compressor cylinder passes between the rear face of the vane piston e and the shutter of the engine cylinder;
it is ignited by the spark from the spark plug placed at a3 and exerts its pressure on the piston-vane which continues its rotation, the de- tent occurs while the front face of the piston (fig . 3) expels the gases burnt during the previous stroke through the a4 outlet pipe.
The expansion of the gases on the rear face of the piston ceases when the piston un- covers this exhaust port a4 COMMC shown in dotted lines to in fig. 3, and the exhaust begins. At this moment, the light j is closed in the engine cylinder, but the corresponding light on the compressor cylinder will open ( fig. 2).
A pressure relief safety valve k, mounted on the compressor cylinder, is held on its seat by a spring k ', the tension of which can be adjusted by means of a threaded plug P, so that this spring only allows the valve to open when] the pressure inside inside the cylinder a exceeds the maximum at achieve.
If, for any reason whatsoever, self-ignition occurs in the compression cylinder, the gases, igniting and increasing considerably in pressure, cause this valve to open k and can escape to outside; this prevents a flashback at the suction pipe a 'and the carburetor. The valve stem may include a lever k3, making it possible to open the valve at the discretion of the driver, for example to produce decompression when starting up.
In the embodiment according to FIGS. 4, 5 and 6, the compressor cylinder a with its vane piston e and its cylindrical shutter c c ', on the one hand , and the engine cylinder with its piston-vane and its cylindrical shutter, on the other hand, are arranged in parallel; an explosion chamber 1, with a spark plug V, is placed between the compressor and engine cylinders.
The distribution is carried out by two rotary valves in ml, the first of which establishes or. interrupts communication by ml between the #cylindrc compressor and the explosion chamber  1,  slums that the second, nil, opens or closes the light m3, ,  which puts in coin- munication this chamber  1  with the engine cylinder;
these iii nil valves have to shoulders m ', subjected to the action of springs and rubbing against the inner wall of their bushels, so as to ensure tightness. The key of robi net nil is reinforced by an axial rib W15, pierced with a slot for the passage, into the engine cylinder, of the gas mixture which has just been ignited in the explosion chamber 1.
The tightness on the sides of each of the in in 'valves is ensured by IÎ116 plates, provided with an elastic segment on their periphery; a spring  to  flange m, 'I   (fi-.  6)  pushes one of the plates against the key of the tap which < B> in  its turn rubs against the other sealing plate;
these in3 trays are held in place by iiil caps. The shafts ii of these taps, made of cast iron with the tap key, carry  to  one of their ends pinions  0,  of the same diameter, in engagement between them, so  to  corner- give the two taps rotational movements in the opposite direction  at  the same speed;
a small toothed wheel jj2 # fixed on the extended end of the shaft of one of the valves (the one on the left, fie. 4) is connected by a chain W, to a toothed wheel n -1 wedged on the shaft and the shutter of the wedge-presser cylinder.
The pinions f2, wedged on the shaft f of the engine cylinder, mesh with toothed gears ol, wedged on the ends of a countershaft o, arranged parallel to the shafts f between these (fie. 6); these same pinions 01 are in mesh with the pinions f \ </ B> of the compressor cylinder f ; the pinions f2 of the shafts f of the engine and compressor cylinders mesh on the other hand, with the pinions c 'of the shafts cl of the shutters c ( fie. 5).
The distributor valves make the same number of turns as the vane pistons e and the shutters  c.  The explosion chamber  1  has the shape of a truncated pyramid, surmounted a cylindrical body in which a piston 12 can move, so as  to  vary the volume of this chamber  1; to  this effect this piston, furnished with sealing rings., carries a threaded rod  P  passing  through  through  the  each skin covering  the  of the explosion chamber, forming a nut;
a flywheel 15 makes it possible to act on this piston rod, so as to make the latter go up and down and thus increase and reduce the volume of the explosion chamber < B> 1; this variation in volume is determined in such a way, to not to reach compression pressures, able to bring about the self-ignition of the gas mixture; it makes it possible to maintain a constant movenne pressure maJg # é the depressions to the suction, due, that is to say to the altitude where it is.
the engine, that is to say to incomplete displacements, it allows, moreover, to obtain a maximum subsidiary compression pressure, and, , pai - </ B > following an explosion, thus increasing the motor torque at the moment when this is necessary due to a not wise increase in resistance (starting overload or analogous).
' In the embodiment of the fie. 4.  5  and  6,  the removable cover  d  has, as does the bottom  dl  come in cast iron with the cylinders a and  b,  111, Middle d2 protruding  inside  the inside of cylinder a from piston-vane  e;  this piston-vane e rotating in the annular space included between the hubs d, 2 and the bore of the cylinder a, has the shape of a T (fi.  5);
this piston-pallet e comprises, as in the case of the previous embodiment, with longitudinal shoulder strips and as well as ex - end e3 e4 # . as, sealing the seal between the piston, on the one hand, and the bottom dl, the cover d and the d 2 , hubs on the other hand.
The plates c 'ensuring the seal on the end flanges of the shutter c, corner- bear at their periphery an exten sible ül.
The shaft f of the piston has a bulge or hub p at the place where the vane e connects to Ï1, this shaft; this p hub has a section calculated to resist to the bending force caused by the pressure of the fluids and to the centrifugal faith which tends to pull the piston-vane from its shaft.
This p hub is surrounded by an extensible segment pl, fixed to one of its ends by screws and free at its other end , the latter preceding the fixed end during the rotational movement of the piston ; several small sliders p2 # housed in grooves made in the hub 1) of the shaft, are intended to assist the elasticity of the annular segment pl and, at the same time, by relying on it, to constitute chambers forming a labyrinth,
in which the gaseous mixture under pressure expands which can infiltrate between the hub p and the segment pl.
This infiltration, almost negligible at. point__dq # in view of efficiency, is favorable to sealing, - since it balances the pressure which, acting externally on the segment p 1, would compress it to the point oit it would no longer come into contact with the shutter; the sides of the pl segment rub against the sealing plates e3.
. The seal between the hubs of the cover d and the bottom d ' of the cylinder, on the one hand, and the shutter c on the other hand, is provided by one or more long longitudinal strips d, embedded in grooves of the hubs d 2 and subjected to l 'Jame 0 spring action which applies them against the outer face of the shutter c.
The cylinders, their bottoms and lids, as well as the hubs, can be cooled by a water circulation as shown in. designs, or by air-cooled fins.
The operation of this motor is the same as that described with reference to FIGS. 1, 2 and 3.
It y should be noted that we can reduce the harmful space between the piston-vane of the compressor cylinder and the shutter by giving the profile of the pistori-vane e the form shown to < / B> fig. 4. It is understood that the faith-my embodiments described and shown have been given only by way of examples and that the apparatus according to the invention is likely to receive a large number of other applications. as a motor, for example as a single compressor, as a vacuum pump, as a fan, as a steam motor on to ' any gas under pressure .
