Air pump for inflating pneumatic tires. The object of the invention is an air pump for inflating pneumatic tires.
It has two single-acting coaxial cylinders of different diameters and, one, the large diameter one, to compress atmospheric air beforehand, the other, the small diameter one, to receive the pre-compressed air. and to bring it to the pressure which this air must have in iritive challenge for the swelling.
The accompanying drawing shows, by way of example, an embodiment of the pump. Figs. 1 and 2 are two elevations taken at 90 from each other and both showing partial tears. This embodiment comprises a metal frame cc having the shape of a standing uri C and carrying in each of its end branches al a2 one of the cylinders b c. These are coaxial,
have different internal diameters and contain pistons integral with a common vertical rod f carrying a horizontal slide g where a roller la moves on a plate i. </ I > The plate i is wedged at one of the ends of a shaft j, rotating in the branch a3 of the frame a and having at its other end a square j 1 on which a hand-operated crank can be placed. When the plate i is rotated in this way, the roller h rolls in the slide g and forces the rod f to rise and fall with the pistons d ë.
The piston d consists of a cylindrical body dl with a diameter slightly smaller than the internal diameter of the cylinder h. and come from manufacture with the rod f, as well as a flexible lining d2 made of leather for example and capable of being applied exactly under the pressure of the air on the internal surface of the cylinder 1); this communicates freely with the atmosphere at its upper part.
When, under these conditions, the piston d is lifted, a certain vacuum is produced in the cylinder b and atmospheric air enters the latter by moving the seal d2 away from the inner surface of b. When, on the contrary, the piston d is lowered, the air which is in b is compressed and which then strongly applies the seal against this inner surface.
The piston e comprises a body el screwed onto the other end of the rod f and having a diameter substantially equal to the internal diameter of the cylinder c, a cap e screwed into the body el, as well as a sealing gasket e3, in leather for example, pinched between el and e2. Cylinder c communicates freely with the atmosphere at its lower part.
The rod f is pierced with a channel f 1 serving to connect the cylinders L c and communicating with a channel e4 formed in the body el. The upper orifice of the channel e4 is controlled by a ball valve Ic housed in the cap e2, in turn having a channel e \ 'in communication with the interior of the cylinder c. The delivery channel l of the latter is also controlled by a ball valve ïn and is connected with a pressure gauge ri as well as with a pipe o on which a pipe going to the pipe is attached. pneumatic tire to inflate.
The operation of this form of execution is as follows: When communicating, by means of the crank, not shown, a continuous rotational movement to the plate i, the rod f is raised and lowered with the two pistons d e. During the upward stroke of the piston d, atmospheric air enters the cylinder dre h; it is compressed there during the next downward stroke of the piston d, passes through the channels f1 e4, lifts the ball k and thus arrives inside the cylinder c, in which a certain vacuum occurs precisely then because the piston e performs its downward stroke.
When the piston e subsequently rises, it again compresses the air previously compressed in b and sends it into the tire to be inflated through the discharge valve from which the ball k lifts. The setting in motion of the rod f and the pistons of, can take place other than that has been indicated, for example by means of a maneuvering member to which is communicated a rotary back-and-forth movement, of a rack. The mount can be provided with môyens allowing it to be fixed to a part of the motor vehicle, to a step for example, when the pump is to be used.
