As is known, processes for the production of aluminum can be made hardenable by suitable metal additives. The number of substances that can be used for this is, however, extremely limited. It has now shown that lithium, within certain content limits, gives aluminum this property in an excellent way.
It should be noted here that altinium-lithium alloys have been proposed for chemical purposes. In this case, however, it is always a question of alloys with a relatively high lithium content. It has not yet been recognized that Altimini (tm-Litbitiiii alloys are particularly valuable for construction purposes.
Compared to other known additives, Lithitun has the great advantage that even very small amounts of this light metal have a beneficial effect on the properties of aluminum. In addition, there is the advantage over magnesium, for example, that lithium, due to the fact that its compounds can be easily reduced by the aluminum itself, can simply be introduced into the base metal.
The new process consists in introducing up to six percent of lithium in aluminum (1111. Two (-kmally, lithium is introduced into the necessary amount of aluminum either as metal or in the form of a lithium-containing master alloy to make alloys with a gelialt Litliiiiiii to received up to six percent.
Mair can also introduce measured amounts of lithium compounds that can be easily reducible by aluminum into the closed aluminum, so that the liberated lithium is released when a certain amount of the aluminum is consumed. see in which aluminum dissolves. In addition to lithium, other metals such as copper, zinc and manganese can also be introduced into the aluminum, so that so-called multi-component alloys are created.
All of these alloys, namely both the pure Altiiiiiiiitliii lithium alloys and the multi-component alloys, have favorable physical properties. By
