Process for the preparation of insoluble, basic nagnesiuniliypobroniite. The main patent no. 75045 protects a process for the preparation of basic magnesium hypochlorite, according to which the hypochlorous acid residue is allowed to react with magnesium hydroxide or magnesium hydroxide if the reaction mixture is sufficiently alkaline. The examples given in the main patent show that
that magnesium oxide or hydroxide is used in excess. Further experiments have shown that when the corresponding bromine compounds are used, while avoiding the occurrence of free mineral acid in the reaction mixture, a basic compound of magnesium with hypobromous acid is obtained in an analogous manner, which in its behavior corresponds entirely to the basic hypochlorite described in the main patent and accordingly represents a basic magnesium hypobromite.
The basic magnesium hypobromite, which occurs more or less in a gelatinous form in the moist state, is a powder of yellow color in the dry state, which in water, in which it is as good as insoluble, only to a negligible extent with splitting off full traces of Unterbromiger acid is decomposed.
When acids are added, the (low-grade of the sub-bromine acid contained therein, or free bromine, is split off, so that the determination of the (xelialtes au sub-bromine acid) is carried out in the same way as for epochlorites by means of:
ation with natural sodium sulfate using potassium iodide is difficult. In the form of a uniform, precisely defined connection, the substance cannot be inherited according to previous experience. If one assumes the hypothetical formula Mg (OH) (OBr) for the pure substance in contrast to the normal hypobromites of the formula Mg (OBr) 2,
thus the actual preparation so far made contains at most about 50% of this pure hypothetical compound. The rest is magnesium hydroxide or oxide.
With your method according to the invention, you can use a solution of free mrterbromiger s @ iare or that of a hypobromous acid salt directly with ready-made alagneside oxide or hydroxide in sufficient excess, or a Dlagriesiunisalzliisurig finitely a solution of an alkali or a solution or suspension of an alkaline earth in the presence of full
under bromous acid, which can be bound to all the dissolved magnesium compound or all the alkali or both, in appropriate proportions. The.
The intermittent acid required for the reaction can be generated in any way, by electrolysis, by introducing fully liquid or gaseous bromine into a solution containing alkalis, alkaline earths or free magnesium oxides, or in some other way before or entirely or partly during
or after the dissolution of the magnesia ring with alkali or alkaline earth. Examples: l:
. In sodium hydroxide solution with a content of 38 g NaOH per 100 ccm, Bronr is added with stirring and cooling until the titration shows a content of approx. 21 g Bi, in 100 Gern in the form of fully hypobromous acid.
200 units of this brominated liquor are then combined with 300 gi-crystallized 1Iagnesium bromides, which have been mixed with a little water to a volume of 200 cm. Basic magic hypobromite separates out in gelatinous form.
It is suctioned off, washed out and the mass washed out is used either directly in the form dehydrated to the consistency of the ointment, or it is completely dried in-house (this gives a dust-free powder with a content of about 37 / u Br in the form of full after grinding BrO, so from 74 on so-called "effective Bi." 2.
Bi- is added to sodium hydroxide solution with a content of 38 g Na01d per 100 ccm, while stirring and cooling, until almost all of the caustic soda has been converted into hypobromite.
At the same time, 100 cc of an equally strong sodium hydroxide solution with 300 g of crystallized magnesium bromide, which are previously stirred with a little water to a volume of 220 cc, reacted with stirring. To the thus separated suspension of 31: agnesirin hydroxyl, 100 cc of the above brominated liquor are added with stirring.
As for example 1, basiselres 1 @ Iagriesirirrihypobrorriit forms, which is further processed in the same way as there.
