Description
[0001] The invention relates to a device for electrophysical and electrochemical water activation according to the preamble of independent claim 1.
[0002] The electrochemical and electrophysical activation of water is a known technology for maintaining water quality, in particular for keeping water free of germs. Devices based on this technology are sold, for example, by Zimmermann Verfahrenstechnik AG, 4142 Münchenstein, Switzerland under the brand name Hydrolyte®.
[0003] The most important component of these known electrochemical water activation devices is an electrolysis reactor with electrodes supplied with direct current via a control system, whereby the water to be treated is electrolytically decomposed. The resulting reaction products have a virucidal, bactericidal and fungicidal effect and remain reactive for up to several hours.
[0004] The present invention is intended to provide a device for electrochemical water activation which is particularly simple in construction and is particularly suitable for use in smaller water containers.
[0005] The solution to this problem underlying the invention consists in the device according to the features of independent claim 1.
[0006] Appropriate and particularly advantageous further embodiments of the device according to the invention are the subject of the dependent claims.
[0007] The essence of the invention is as follows: A device for electrophysical and electrochemical water activation comprises an electrode unit and a control for applying direct voltage to electrodes of the electrode unit. The electrode unit is designed as a tubular structure, with a sleeve-shaped first electrode and a rod-shaped second electrode arranged coaxially to this at one end of the tubular structure, and with the electrode unit being insertable into a container for water to be treated.
[0008] Advantageously, the electrode unit comprises a composite tube with a core tube made of electrically conductive material, preferably metal, and the core tube is embedded between an outer plastic tube and an inner plastic tube.
[0009] Advantageously, the first electrode is electrically connected to the core tube.
[0010] The first electrode advantageously consists of titanium expanded material coated several times with a mixed oxide. An electrode designed in this way is particularly suitable for the intended use of the device, in particular because of its large surface area.
[0011] Advantageously, the rod-shaped second electrode consists of titanium.
[0012] Advantageously, the control is designed to supply the electrodes with an adjustable constant direct current.
[0013] Advantageously, the strength of the constant direct current is adjustable from 1 to 10 A. This allows the device to be optimally adapted to different water qualities.
The invention is explained in more detail below with reference to an embodiment shown in the drawing. In the drawing: Fig. 1 shows a partially sectioned overall view of the device according to the invention; Fig. 2 shows an enlarged longitudinal section of part of an electrode unit of the device of Fig. 1 and Fig. 3 shows a view of an electrode of the electrode unit of the device according to the invention.
[0015] The device according to the invention for electrochemical water activation shown in Fig. 1 essentially comprises three components, namely an electrode unit designated as a whole by 100, an electrical or electronic control 200 and a power supply 300.
[0016] The structure of the electrode unit 100 is shown in Figures 1 and 2. The electrode unit 100 has the external shape of an elongated cylindrical rod. It has a composite tube in which a core tube 12 is embedded between an outer plastic tube 11 and an inner plastic tube 13. The outer plastic tube 11, the core tube 12 and the inner plastic tube 13 or the composite tube thus form a tubular sandwich structure, which can also be viewed as a core tube coated with plastic on the outside and inside. The core tube 12 is preferably made of metal or another electrically conductive material. The two plastic tubes 11 and 12 are made of an electrically non-conductive material. The two plastic tubes 11 and 13 only give the electrode unit mechanical stability, but have no function with regard to the electrophysical and electrochemical water activation. The two plastic tubes 11 and 13 of the electrode unit 100 are preferably made of polyoxymethylene suitable for contact with drinking water.
[0017] The outer plastic tube 11 does not quite reach the end (lower in relation to the drawing) of the core tube 12, so that a lower end section 12a of the core tube 12 is not covered with plastic on the outside. A sleeve-shaped first electrode 20 made of an expanded material sits on this end section 12a, this electrode 20 having a sieve structure with many openings. The first electrode 20 shown in a side view in Fig. 3 consists of titanium with a preferably multiple mixed oxide coating and forms the anode of the electrode unit 100 during operation. The first electrode 20 is in electrically conductive connection with the core tube 12. The first electrode 20 is approximately twice as long as the end section 12a of the core tube 12 and protrudes (downwards in relation to the drawing) beyond the end of the core tube 12 and the inner plastic tube 13.
[0018] In the area of the lower end section 12a, an electrode holder 31 made of a non-conductive plastic is fastened in the inner plastic tube 13. A second electrode 30 is inserted coaxially into this electrode holder 31. This electrode 30 has the shape of a round rod and reaches to the lower end of the first electrode 20. The second electrode 30 forms the cathode of the electrode unit 100 during operation. The second electrode 30 is made of titanium. A connection tab 32 is screwed to it at its inner end, to which an electrical line 35 is attached. The electrode holder 31 is preferably also made of polyoxymethylene suitable for contact with drinking water.
[0019] At the end of the core tube 12 (the upper end in relation to the drawing), a connecting lug 22 is screwed to the latter in an electrically conductive manner, to which an electrical line 25 is attached. The electrical connection between the first electrode 20 and the connecting lug 22 is made via the conductive core tube 12. The two electrical lines 25 and 35 are led through a cable gland 50 inserted into the upper end of the inner plastic tube 13 and connected to the electronic control 200.
[0020] An annular sleeve 40 is attached to the outside of the upper end of the outer plastic tube 11. In practical operation of the device, the electrode unit 100 is arranged in a water tank 400 so that the electrode unit 100 is immersed in the water W in the water tank 400. The sleeve 40 rests on an opening edge of the water tank 400 and prevents the electrode unit 100 from falling into the water tank 400.
[0021] In practical operation of the device, the electrical line 25 is connected to the positive pole on the output side and the electrical line 35 is connected to the negative pole on the output side of the controller 200, so that the first electrode 20 forms the anode and the second electrode 30 forms the cathode of the electrolytic arrangement. The controller 200 is powered by the power supply 300. The power supply 300 can be, for example, a 12 V to 48 V direct voltage source. However, supply from the public power grid, e.g. 230 V, is also possible, e.g. by means of a suitable adapter. When the device is in operation, the controller 200 applies direct voltage to the two electrodes 20 and 30, which is regulated by the controller 200 so that a constant direct current flows between the electrodes 20 and 30. The direct current can be set on the controller between approximately 1 and 10 A. This means that the device can be adapted to water with different ingredients and, in particular, with quantitatively different salt contents. The level of the direct voltage adapts to the conductivity of the water and is modulated between 5 and 48 VDC, for example, depending on the water quality.
[0022] Applying direct current between the anode and cathode results in a charge separation, during which the anions (e.g. chlorides) migrate to the positively polarized anode and the cations (e.g. sodium ions) migrate to the negatively polarized cathode. The charge transfers take place largely thanks to the ions dissolved in the water.
[0023] The relevant process that leads to the production of water with a disinfecting effect takes place during charge separation. So-called "electrochemically activated water" is formed. As a result of the local heating and ionization of the water, tiny bubbles are formed, so-called bubble nuclei, gas clusters or micro gas bubbles, which lead to the disinfecting effect. The gas bubble nuclei can permeate through the cell membrane of microorganisms and change their semi-permeable properties. The microorganisms lyse as a result of the osmotic changes (bacteriolysis).
[0024] The device according to the invention for electrochemical and electrophysical water activation is extremely simple in construction and can therefore be manufactured relatively inexpensively. It requires little energy and hardly any maintenance. In addition, it can also be used in small water containers without any special effort.
