So besteht ein Reflektor, der das vom Leuchtmittel abgestrahlte Licht in die gewünschte Richtung lenken soll, z.B. aus einem opaken Kunststoffmaterial, auf dessen Innenseite eine reflektierende oder streuende Schicht aufgebracht ist. Für den Zweck dieser Beschreibung umfasst der Begriff «Reflektor» somit auch Leuchtenelemente, die das einfallende Licht diffus reflektieren. Eine Diffusorscheibe besteht aus einem transparenten oder semi-transparenten Material, beispielsweise aus Acrylglas oder Polycarbonat.
