The present invention relates to the field of watchmaking. It relates more particularly to a display device that can be used in a watch, a pendulum or any other timepiece, whether mechanical or electromechanical.
Conventionally, the display devices used in the watch industry combine a fixed dial with relevant inscriptions, and at least one indicator driven by a movement adapted to the information it provides. This is so for a minute hand that makes a dial turn in 60 minutes, traveling 360/60 degrees in 1 minute.
Another solution is to distribute the useful information on a mobile disk disposed under the dial and driven by the movement.
The reading is done through a counter in the dial which leaves visible the relevant information.
These devices are widely known to those skilled in the art and do not need to be described in more detail.
In order to provide an original display, the application FR 2 195 805 discloses a watch whose dial comprises two semicircular openings. Their edges are provided with fixed reading scales, each referring to a unit. Two rotating discs rotate concentrically with respect to the semicircular openings.
A line separates the upper faces of the discs into two zones of different colors, their border thus forming an index scrolling past the fixed scale and allowing the reading of the information.
The present invention aims to provide a new display system, adaptable to various types of information, such as time, minutes, the date or the month, for example, and can be used in a any timepiece, mechanical or electromechanical.
More specifically, the invention relates to a device for displaying a periodic information relating to a unit of time, intended to be used in a mechanical timepiece or electromechanical timepiece with a movement.
This device comprises:
a dial mounted on the movement,
at least one opening in the dial, and
a disc disposed under the dial and bearing relevant indications for the display of the information, the indications being visible at least partially in the opening and the disc being rotated around its center by the movement by completing a turn in two periods of information,
a repository to read the information from the relevant indications visible in the opening.
According to the invention, the reference system comprises first and second elements adjacent to the opening,
so that the information can be identified by the first element of the repository during a first period and by the second element of the repository during the next period.
Advantageously, the indications are distributed over an annular sector extending over half of said disk.
A step is defined as the angle traveled by the disc between two consecutive time units.
The opening is characterized by a crown sector shape, the sector embracing an angle of 180 deg. more a step.
Preferably, the disc is rotated concentrically at the opening and the reference elements are each constituted by the ends of the opening.
Alternatively, the reference elements may be constituted either by an index disposed on the dial, or by two openings, forming wickets.
In these embodiments, the reference elements are aligned with respect to the center of rotation of the disk.
The indications are distributed along the periphery of the disc, on half of its perimeter, so as to appear through the opening during the displacement of the disc, the other half of the perimeter of the disc being free of any marking.
If the information is the date, the disc is moved at the speed of 360/62 deg. per day.
If the information is the time, the disc is moved at the speed of 360/24 deg. per hour.
In this case, the reference elements can be differentiated and assigned respectively to the hours of the morning and the hours of the afternoon.
If the information is the minute, the disc is moved at the speed of 360/120 deg. per minute.
Other details of the invention will emerge more clearly on reading the description which follows, given with reference to the appended drawing in which:
<tb> figs. 1a to 1e <sep> illustrate the evolution of the display of an embodiment of the invention, and
<tb> figs. 2a to 2c, 3, 4 and 5 <sep> show various embodiments of the invention, making it possible to present different information, FIG. 5 being partially skinned.
The device according to the invention is suitable for displaying periodic information relating to a unit of time. In figs. 1a to 1e, there is shown a date display. A dial 10 having an opening 12 in the form of crown sector, is mounted on a not shown watch movement. The sizing of the opening will be specified below.
A disc 14 bearing the relevant indications, that is to say the thirty-one calendar days in this example, is rotated about its center by the movement, concentrically at the opening. A step is defined as being the angle traveled by the disc between two consecutive calendar days.
In the example, it is moved by jumps at the speed of 360/62 deg. per day, that is to say, it performs a complete turn in two periods, that is to say in two months of thirty-one days.
The indications are spaced from one another, on an annular sector disposed at the periphery of the disk, on half of its perimeter, so as to appear through the opening 12 during his displacement. The other half of the perimeter is free of any markings.
The opening 12 defines on the dial 10 a sector equal to the sector occupied by the set of indications plus the value of a step. In other words, the opening draws an arc whose center angle is 180 deg. more a step.
The device is still equipped with a repository to read the information among the relevant indications.
This reference system consists of two indexes 20a, 20b disposed on the dial, at each of the ends of the opening 12. The two indexes are aligned with respect to the center of rotation of the disc 14.
On the first day of a given month, as illustrated in FIG. 1a, the first date is indicated by the index 20b, located at the right end of the opening 12. The sizing of the opening and the distribution of the indications on the disc make the other index 20a is in front of a portion of the free marking disc.
On the following days, the disc advances one step per day and the next calendars scroll past the index 20b (Figure 1b). The past calendars, that is to say those whose corresponding days have elapsed since the beginning of the month, disappear under the dial 10.
The index 20a is always in front of a portion of the disc 14 free marking.
On the last day of the month, the index 20b indicates the number 31 on the disk and the index 20a is in front of a blank (Fig. 1c). On the evening of the thirty-one, around midnight, the number 31 disappears under the dial and gives way to a white, while the 1 appears in front of the index 20a (Figure 1d).
In the following days, the disc advances one step per day and the next calendar scrolls past the index 20a. The past calendars, that is to say those whose corresponding days have elapsed since the beginning of the month, progress in the opening 12.
The index 20b is always in front of a portion of the free marking disc (Fig. 1e).
And so on until the last day of the month when, around midnight, the disc progresses and the number 31 leaves room for a blank in front of the index 20a, while the 1 is in front of the index 20b (Fig. 1a).
We are then at the beginning of the cycle described above. Of course, not every month has thirty-one days. It is therefore necessary to correct the indication, either manually or automatically, through mechanisms well known to those skilled in the art.
Other information may be indicated by means of a display according to the invention. A particularly advantageous embodiment is shown in FIG. 2. This is a time display.
The series of numbers from 0 to 12 is distributed over half of the periphery of the disc, each being separated by a step of 360/24. The disc is driven one step per hour and performs a complete turn in twenty-four hours.
One of the indexes, 20a for example, is dedicated to indicate the hours of the morning and the index 20b, those of the afternoon. They can stand apart from each other to signify this difference. Thus, at the beginning of half-day, at midnight, the number 0 is located in front of the index 20b, while the index 20a indicates a portion of the free marking disc (FIG 2a). The series of numbers is visible in the opening 12. During the morning, the disc advances one step per hour and the following numbers scroll in front of the index 20b.
The past indications, that is to say those whose corresponding hours have elapsed since the beginning of the half-day, disappear under the dial 10. The index 20a is always in front of a blank (Fig. 2b ).
Then, at the passage of 11:59 to 12h, the disc progresses and the number 11 leaves room for a blank in front of the index 20b, while the 0 is in front of the index 20a (Fig 2c) . The hours of the afternoon pass in front of the index 20a, the index 20b being in front of a blank, until the number 11 arrives in front of the index 20a and that, after 23:59, the 0 appears in front of the index 20b and a portion of the free marking disc is opposite the index 20a (Figure 2a).
[0032] Another embodiment of the invention is illustrated in FIG. 3, it consists of a display of minutes.
The number series from 0 to 59 is distributed over half of the disk periphery, each being separated by a pitch of 360/120. The disc is driven one step per minute and performs a complete revolution in 2 hours. Depending on the size of the display, it is the series 0, 5, 10, 15 ... 55 that appears on the disc.
According to a new example shown in FIG. 4, the dial is pierced not by an aperture shaped crown sector, but by two windows 22a and 22b, aligned with the center of rotation of the disk and equidistant thereof. The windows serve as a reference element.
The information is visible through a first window 22a during a first period and through the second 22b during the next period.
Optionally, in a variant shown in FIG. 5, the two windows 22a and 22b may also not be equidistant from the center of rotation of the disk. In this case, two sets of indications appear on the disc, each appearing alternately through one of the windows. This embodiment is particularly advantageous for displaying the hours.
The above description has been given by way of illustration of the invention and is not limiting. Other embodiments adapted to the display of other information can be made without departing from the scope of the invention.
In particular, the edges of the opening themselves can constitute the reference elements.
