Fig. 1
Fig. 2
Fig. 3
Fig. 4
Fig. 5
Fig.6
Fig. 7
The present invention relates to a method for the subsequent production of a tooth profile on at least part of a drive or conveyor belt with a thermoplastic coating.
Various drive or conveyor belts are nowadays known, which are coated with a thermoplastic covering. As a rule, these belts are guided and driven over smooth, partly slightly curved rollers, which also include disks in the present text. The force is transferred between the roll and the belt via the frictional forces. With this arrangement, the rolls and the belt normally do not run synchronously, since no positive locking is guaranteed.
In cases where synchronous operation is required, e.g. Tapes are used, in which holes are punched, into which metal bolts on the rollers engage. This type of synchronization is problematic, however, because the hole edges are exposed to a large amount of mechanical wear and therefore have to be specially reinforced.
Synchronous running can also be achieved with belts onto which toothed plastic strips are glued or welded, which engage in a toothed roller segment.
However, the application of toothed strips on drive or conveyor belts is very complex and there is a risk that they will come off again over time. In addition, the strips are thicker in the area of the toothed strips, which has a negative effect on the strip flexibility and resistance to alternating bending.
The invention is therefore based on the object of creating a method with which a tooth profile can be retrofitted at least on part of a drive or transport belt with a thermoplastic coating, but which does not have the disadvantages mentioned. The method should be inexpensive and the drive or conveyor belt produced with it should be comparatively wear-resistant.
This object is achieved by the method according to the invention for the subsequent generation of a tooth profile, as defined in independent claim 1. Preferred embodiment variants result from the dependent patent claims 2 to 10. Claims 11 and 12 relate to drive and conveyor belts which are produced by the method according to the invention.
The essence of the invention is that in a method for the subsequent creation of a tooth profile on at least part of a drive or conveyor belt with a thermoplastic coating, a tooth profile is worked directly into the thermoplastic coating.
Thanks to the method according to the invention, drive and conveyor belts with a thermoplastic covering can easily be retrofitted with a tooth profile. The tapes obtained in this way are less prone to wear and less thick than the known tapes of this type, since no toothed plastic strips are glued or welded onto the thermoplastic covering, but the tooth profile is incorporated directly into the thermoplastic covering.
The tooth profile is preferably worked in by embossing, in which case material is displaced in such a way that it finally projects beyond the original surface of the thermoplastic covering.
In order to reinforce the thermoplastic covering - and to enable correct embossing in the first place with a thin covering - a thermoplastic strip can be welded onto this at the same time as the tooth profile is embossed.
In addition, at the same time as the tooth profile is embossed, a fabric strip can be applied to at least part of the thermoplastic covering, which makes the drive or conveyor belt quieter and more wear-resistant during operation.
Except through embossing e.g. it is also conceivable to generate a tooth profile by removing material from the thermoplastic covering.
The method according to the invention for the subsequent production of a tooth profile and the drive and transport belts obtained with this method are described in more detail below with reference to the accompanying drawings and using exemplary embodiments. Show it:

Fig. 6 is a guide and drive roller for the drive or conveyor belt of Fig. 5 and

Fig. 1
The end-connected drive or conveyor belt 1 comprises a conventional belt body 11, which can be constructed in multiple layers and in a known manner with a conventional thermoplastic covering 10, e.g. made of polyvinyl chloride or polyurethane. A tooth profile 2 is embossed into the thermoplastic covering 10 and forms a longitudinal strip in the middle of the band 1. The tooth ends formed by material displaced during embossing protrude beyond the original surface 12 of the thermoplastic covering.
The following definition applies to the entire further description. If reference numerals are included in a figure for the sake of clarity in the drawing, but are not explained in the directly associated description text, reference is made to their mention in the previous description of the figures.
Fig. 2
By embossing the tooth profile 2, depressions of the depth b are formed in the thermoplastic covering 10, while displaced material protrudes by the height a over the original surface 12 of the thermoplastic covering 10, so that a total tooth height h = a + b results. The volume of the depressions corresponds to the volume of the material that is located above the original surface 12 of the thermoplastic covering 10.
Fig. 3
The tooth profile is embossed here with a heated embossing tool 3, which is pressed onto the thermoplastic covering 10 connected to the band body 11 and liquefies it in the vicinity of the tool 3. The side of the embossing tool 3 pressed against the thermoplastic covering 10 is profiled to complement the desired tooth profile, so that the latter is formed by material displacement and subsequent cooling of the material.
Fig. 4
In this variant, the tooth profile is embossed using a high-frequency system. An embossing tool 30, which comprises a metal part 31 delimited by plastic covers 32, 33 with an embossing profile 34, is pressed against the thermoplastic covering 10. By applying a high-frequency voltage to the metal part 31, the thermoplastic coating 10 is heated and liquefied in the vicinity of the embossing profile 34, so that the desired tooth profile 2 is formed again by material displacement and subsequent cooling of the material.
Fig. 5
In cases where good lateral guidance of the drive or conveyor belt 1 is required, this can be provided with a longitudinal guide profile 4. Longitudinal guide profiles of this type are commercially welded onto drive or conveyor belts nowadays.
Figure 6
A guide and drive roller 5 for the drive or conveyor belt 1 from FIG. 5 has two toothed roller segments 51, 52, between which a guide groove 53 is arranged. The teeth of the roller segments 51, 52 and the guide groove 53 are approximately complementary to the tooth profile 2 and the longitudinal guide profile 4, so that a synchronous movement of the guide and drive roller 5 and the drive or conveyor belt 1 and good lateral guidance of the latter is ensured.
Fig. 7
The embossing of a tooth profile and the welding of a longitudinal guide profile 4 are carried out in the embodiment variant shown by means of a high-frequency system in the same operation. The embossing tool 40 in this case comprises a metal part 41 delimited by plastic covers 42, 43 with an embossing profile 44. The embossing profile 44 is designed in two parts in order to be able to arrange the longitudinal guide profile 4 between the two parts.
Here too, the application of a high-frequency voltage to the metal part 41 heats and liquefies the thermoplastic coating 10 in the vicinity of the embossed profile 44, so that the desired tooth profile is formed by material displacement and subsequent cooling of the material and the longitudinal guide profile 4 is welded onto the thermoplastic coating 10.
The welding of a longitudinal guide profile 4 can of course also be combined with the generation of a tooth profile 2 by means of ultrasound and / or heated embossing tool 3.
