The present invention relates to a method for honing the smallest holes in blanks made of hard materials by means of a honing wire having a conical section, which is provided with grinding paste, and a machine for the fully automatic execution of the honing method.
Such injection molded, extruded or pressed blanks or blanks with a preformed hole have lengths and diameters in the millimeter range. During honing, the preformed hole is machined to the micrometer to the final dimension. Small holes cover the range from 0.02 mm to 0.5 mm, possibly up to 1 mm. Hard materials can include the hardness range from hardened steel to diamonds, but the blanks mainly consist of ceramic or sapphire, ruby and hard metal. After honing or internal cross grinding of the smallest hole, the workpieces are usually ground on the outside parallel to the hole axis. The finished workpieces are used as so-called ferrules or capillaries as guide sleeves for the fiber optic connectors or as bonding capillaries for IC production.
In a known honing process, the blanks are drawn onto a tension wire and cast into an alloy with a low melting point. After removing the tension wire, the honing wire with the thinner part is pulled through the row of holes on the honing machine and clamped movably back and forth on both sides of the row of workpieces. By pushing the honing wire back and forth, the conical wire part is used to machine one workpiece after the other in one row.
Although this mechanical method has great advantages over individual machining by hand, there are also numerous disadvantages. Because the diameter of the tension wire and the blank holes do not exactly match when pouring in, the axes of the blanks and the honing wire do not match exactly, so that the blank hole must be smaller so that more material can be removed for compensation, but this increases the processing time . After honing, the workpieces must be cleaned of the casting alloy in an additional step. Until the last blank in the row is machined with the conical wire part, the wire with the nominal diameter is constantly pulled back and forth through the first blank, which often expands this workpiece and thus results in rejects.
Capillaries, which have a cylindrical inner diameter only over a small part of their length, are also not suitable for casting.
The object of the invention is now to avoid the disadvantages mentioned and to create a method and a machine for honing, with which the workpieces with an enlarged raw hole diameter can be honed individually one after the other fully automatically without pouring, without drawing open and without cleaning. This object is now achieved by the measures shown in the characterizing part of claims 1 and 4. Advantageous embodiments of the subject matter of the invention are listed in the dependent claims 2, 3 and 5 to 7.
An exemplary embodiment of the invention is explained in more detail below on the basis of the single schematic drawing figure.
The honing machine 1 has a stepper motor 2, which drives the wire 6 running out of a magazine 5 with an oscillating movement 7 by means of a toothed belt 3 and deflection rollers 4. The wire 6 is passed around a driving roller 8 and further between a pressure sensor 9 and a tension sensor 10. A compressed air supply 12 cooperating with a diamond paste supply 11 applies diamond paste to the wire 6 in the nozzle 13. Behind the nozzle 13, the wire forms a radially unsupported, flexible area 14 which engages with its conical end area 15 in the workpiece 16 to be machined.
The workpiece 16 is clamped in the spindle 17 of a spindle carriage 18, which is driven by a stepper motor 19 via a toothed belt 20, wherein it can be moved between a loading / unloading position 21 and a working position 22 and additionally performs an oscillating movement 23 in this position 22 . The spindle 17 is driven by an electric motor 24, so that a rotational movement 25 is superimposed on the oscillating movement 23 of the workpiece 16. A control cabinet 26 of the honing machine 1, with pneumatic part 27, electronic part 28 and programming part 29, serves to drive, control and monitor the machine parts described, the connecting lines being partially indicated in the figure.
During operation of the honing machine, a workpiece 16 is inserted into the spindle 17 by an automatic loading device (not shown in the figure) and is moved into the working position 22 with the spindle carriage 18. The stepping motor 2 pushes the projecting, radially unsupported flexible wire region 14 with its conical end region 15 freely flying into the preformed hole of the workpiece 16 in the form of a capillary, with which the honing operation can begin. Since the wire can be freely moved into the raw hole without radial support, it adapts flexibly to the raw hole diameter so that less material has to be removed. Because the workpiece 16 executes the rotational movement 25 and the horizontal oscillating movement 23 at the same time, the feed of the conical wire removes the material in a cruciform shape to the final diameter of the workpiece.
The pressure sensor 9 and the tension sensor 10 constantly feel in the deflected wire the forces F exerted on it and transmitted by it, which are used via the electronic part 28 for the oscillating feed and retraction control 7 of the wire by the stepping motor 2. The maximum permissible forces F on the programming part are set so that the material removal on the workpiece is optimal and the flexible wire part 14 does not buckle. After the honing operation has ended, the spindle carriage 18 moves into the loading / unloading position 21, where the workpiece 16 is automatically dropped into a collecting container. The cycle described can be repeated with the automatic loading of a new workpiece.
Since the conical part of the wire wears out over time, the honing machine can also have a device (not shown) for cutting off the used wire. All essential machine parts can be controlled and monitored via the programming and electronic parts, whereby the parameters can be adapted to the optimal operating conditions. In particular, the length and the speed of the advancing and retracting movement of the honing wire and the workpiece, the honing time, the forces exerted on the honing wire, the amount of diamond paste dispensed and the location of the loading / unloading position and the working position can be optimally adjusted.
