The invention relates to a method for cooling a first air stream by means of a second air stream, in particular for cooling from a room supply air supplied from the outside by means of exhaust air discharged from the room, the second air stream first being humidified and then subjected to a recuperative heat exchange with the first air stream.
The invention further relates to a device for carrying out this method with a recuperative heat exchanger through which the first air flow and the second air flow can flow, and with an air humidification unit upstream of the heat exchanger on the side of the inlet of the second air flow.
When conditioning the room, the problem arises that the supply air must be cooled in summer. This happens with the exhaust air, which is previously exposed to moisture and is thereby cooled. For this purpose, the exhaust air has previously been adiabatically humidified by means of an air washer. Here, the saturation line of the air is far from being reached. Accordingly, the energy level of the exhaust air remains comparatively high. In the subsequent heat exchange, only a comparatively small heat absorption capacity of the humidified exhaust air can be used to cool the supply air. This means that only a comparatively low supply air cooling can be achieved. The consequence of this is that after-cooling is required, which leads to high energy and construction costs.
Proceeding from this, it is therefore the object of the present invention to improve a method and a device of the type mentioned at the beginning with simple and inexpensive means in such a way that a comparatively high cooling effect is achieved.
Starting from the generic method, this object is achieved in that the second air stream is moistened with moisture at least up to the area of the saturation line of 100% relative air humidity.
This results in a high, previously unattainable level of energy in the humidified air and thus good cooling.
According to a particularly preferred further development of the higher-level measures, the second air stream is oversaturated with moisture beyond the saturation line of 100% relative atmospheric humidity, which is at least partially evaporated during the subsequent heat exchange with the first air stream.
These measures ensure that not only the low energy level of the previously cooled second air stream is available during heat exchange, but also that the evaporation energy required to evaporate the moisture portion of the second air stream that goes beyond the saturation line can be used to cool the first air stream. This advantageously results in a two-phase cooling of the first air stream using the energy consumed in the post-evaporation of the supersaturated moisture and the energy used to increase the temperature of the second air stream.
For this purpose, the air humidification unit of the generic device is designed according to the invention as a cold steam generator, by means of which cold steam can be applied to the second air flow at least up to the area of the saturation line, preferably beyond the saturation line of 100% relative air humidity.
These measures result in a simple and inexpensive construction as well as an excellent efficiency. With the help of a cold steam generator, humidification up to the saturation line and, if necessary, oversaturation up to the range of 10-50%, preferably of about 20% of the respective water content, which is assigned to the operating point on the saturation line, can easily be achieved.
The cold steam generator is expediently designed such that non-wetting cold steam is generated. This ensures that the heat transfer surfaces of the heat exchanger are not wetted, so that the heat transfer is not impaired.
The cold steam generator can advantageously be arranged upstream of an air-air plate heat exchanger. This results in large heat transfer areas, so that both cooling phases can be fully effective. In particular, the use of a plate heat exchanger with air flow according to the counterflow principle proves to be particularly preferred.
Further advantageous refinements and expedient further developments of the superordinate measures are specified in the remaining dependent patent claims and can be found in the following description of the examples with reference to the drawing.
In the drawing described below:
1 is a schematic representation of a ventilation device according to the invention,
2 shows a section through the cold steam generator of the arrangement according to FIG. 1,
3 shows a perspective view of the heat exchanger module of the arrangement according to FIGS. 1 and

1, which is designed as a compact air conditioning box unit, is used to condition the room climate in an assigned room, e.g. in a workshop. Exhaust air is taken from this room, as indicated by arrow 1. At the same time, supply air is supplied to this room, as indicated by arrow 2. The exhaust air is released into the environment as exhaust air, as indicated by arrow 3. The supply air is taken as fresh air from the environment, as indicated by arrow 4. The inward air flow following the arrows 4, 2 is referred to below as the primary air flow. The outward air flow following the arrows 1, 3 is referred to below as the secondary air flow.
1, which is based on FIG. 1 and which can be designed as a compact air-conditioning unit, consists of several modules attached to one another. A heat exchanger module 5 is provided as the centerpiece, through which the primary air flow flows from the outside in, from right to left in FIG. 1, and the secondary air flow in the opposite direction, as indicated by intersecting flow arrows. The heat exchanger module 5 accordingly has two opposite flow inputs and two opposite flow outputs, the cross section of which in each case comprises half the area of the associated side flank of the heat exchanger module 5.
As indicated by broken lines, a filter module 6 can be arranged in front of the primary air inlet of the heat exchanger module 5, through which the fresh air drawn in from the outside can be filtered. Downstream of the primary air outlet of the heat exchanger module 5, a module designed as a fan part 7 can be provided, which contains a fan for transporting the primary air. In the example shown, an upstream of the fan part 7 air heater module 8 is indicated, through which the primary air can be heated in winter operation.
The secondary air outlet of the heat exchanger module 5 opens into the environment. At the secondary air inlet of the heat exchanger module 5, a cold steam generator 9 is connected with its output, through which the secondary air can be humidified and cooled in summer operation, whereby cooling of the primary air can be effected in the heat exchanger module 5. Upstream of the cold steam generator 9, a module designed as a fan part 10 for transporting the secondary air flow is provided with a filter module 11 on the inlet side for filtering the exhaust air extracted from the room to be conditioned. Between the module designed as a fan part 10 and the module designed as a cold steam generator 9, an empty part (not specified in any more detail) is indicated here, which later enables the installation of a further treatment module, for example for disinfecting the secondary air.
The primary air is heated during winter operation. Accordingly, the heater module 8 is activated. The cold steam generator 9 is passivated, so that the primary air can be preheated in the heat exchanger module 5 by means of the secondary air. During summer operation, the primary air is cooled in the heat exchanger module 5. Accordingly, the heater module 8 is passivated and the cold steam generator is activated.
In the cold steam generator 9, the non-wetting cold steam is applied to the secondary air. The application of cold steam takes place beyond the saturation line of 100% relative air humidity up to an oversaturation of 10-50%, preferably approx. 20% of the respective water content, which is assigned to the operating point of the secondary air flow on the saturation line. The secondary air thus oversaturated with moisture then passes into the heat exchanger module 5. The moisture portion forming the oversaturation is subsequently evaporated. The energy required for this is extracted from the primary air, which is then cooled. As a result of the humidification, the humidified secondary air also has a comparatively low temperature level, which is raised as it passes through the heat exchanger module.
The energy required for this is also extracted from the primary air, which is thereby further cooled. In the heat exchanger module 5 there is thus a two-phase cooling, namely due to the post-evaporation of the water portion forming the supersaturation and due to an increase in the temperature of the secondary air.
This two-phase cooling of the primary air results in a high cooling effect. Tests have shown that the primary air can be cooled by a difference of approximately 14 ° C., which makes it possible to cool the supply air to approximately 20 ° C. and below without further ado. The moisture oversaturation of the exhaust air was 1.5 g water per kg air. The heat exchange was carried out according to the countercurrent principle, whereby a high total energy transfer is achieved due to the almost identical temperature difference over the entire exchange surface.
The cold steam generator 9, as can best be seen from FIG. 2, has a box-shaped flow channel 12, into which atomizer nozzles 13 are installed, which are evenly distributed over the channel width and which are supplied with water under high pressure via a supply line 14. A dissipator or deflector 1 can be arranged in front of the atomizing nozzles 13. The atomizer nozzles 13 are placed approximately at the end of the first quarter, as seen in the longitudinal direction of the flow channel 12. In the area before and after the atomizer nozzles 13, baffles projecting from the side walls of the flow channel 12 into the flow cross section are provided, which are arranged at a mutual distance and accordingly form resonance spaces 16 and 17, respectively.
In the example shown, four baffles upstream of the atomizer nozzle level and six baffle plates downstream of the atomizer nozzles 13 are provided. The upstream baffle plates cause the air entering through the inflow cross section of the flow channel 12, indicated by arrows, to vibrate. Due to the downstream baffles, the water mist-air mixture that forms after the atomizing nozzles 13 is mixed intensively by vibrations, the water evaporating cold to approximately the saturation of the air. The arrangement is such that the air vibrations have a frequency in the range of 20-30 Hz, preferably 25 Hz. In this frequency range, the air and water combine in such a way that no water is excreted.
The resonance chamber 17 formed by the downstream baffles is followed by a dust chamber-free reaction chamber 19, in which the saturation of the air is achieved and the air-water mixture is brought to a homogeneous structure. This prevents water condensate precipitation and ensures the non-wetting properties of the cold steam. In the area of the reaction space 19 there is a wet steam eliminator 20 formed by a centrally arranged plate, which eliminates the larger drops present in the core flow. On the output side, the flow channel 12 is provided with a combined saturated steam dryer and droplet separator 21, which eliminates superfluous saturated steam, dries the cold steam by throttling, and eliminates any small drops that may still be present.
This structure of the cold steam generator 9 enables a water oversaturation of the secondary air to be achieved up to approximately 50% of the respective water content which is assigned to the operating point of the secondary air flow on the saturation line. By changing the pressure of the water supplied to the atomizing nozzles 13, practically any desired air condition can be set.
The heat exchanger module 5 contains, as can best be seen from FIG. 3, a box-shaped housing 22 into which a plate-type heat exchanger 23, which is honeycomb-shaped here, is installed. Of course, other heat exchanger configurations are also conceivable. However, the present configuration expediently results in parallel flow directions in the central region. The plate heat exchanger 23 contains, as can best be seen from FIG. 4, fins 29 which are kept at a distance by wave plates 28 and which separate the two air flows passed through, here the primary air flow and the secondary air flow. The wave plates result in straight flow channels with a comparatively slim cross-section and at the same time stiffen the fins. These can therefore be comparatively thin, which ensures good heat exchange.
The slats can be made of light metal, such as aluminum, stainless steel or plastic, such as PVC or PP. The same applies to the wave plates. The plate heat exchanger is expediently designed as a counterflow heat exchanger, the symptom of the "cold corner" being avoided by the almost constant air temperature difference between the two mass flows over the entire exchange path and uniform evaporation achieved over the entire exchanger surface. In this way, very good transfer values of the plate heat exchanger can be achieved and the performance of the entire process can be optimized. The honeycomb shape used in the example shown with parallel flow directions is particularly advantageous.
The air flows passing through the plate heat exchanger 23 cross each other. 3, the honeycomb-shaped plate heat exchanger 23 is arranged in the box-shaped housing 22 of the heat exchanger module 5 in such a way that the two opposing heat exchanger flanks running in the direction of the device axis rest on the adjacent side walls of the housing 22 or are parallel to them at a distance. This results in protruding heat exchanger corners at the center of the housing end faces. Of course, other arrangements are also conceivable. In any case, it is expedient if the arrangement is made such that adjacent inlet and outlet cross sections 24 and 25, respectively, extend in the region of the end faces of the housing 22 and each extend over half the area of the relevant end face.
In the example shown, the secondary air inlet 24 and the primary air outlet 25 are located next to one another in the region of one end face. In the area of the other end face, the secondary air outlet 26 and primary air inlet 27 result. This is made possible by the construction on which FIG. 1 is based, with supply air routed parallel to the cold steam generator 9. The housing 22 is designed in such a way that it projects above the cold steam generator 9 on the end face by the height of the attached module, here the air heater module 8.
