Beschreibung description
Rear fog lights are a mandatory part of the lighting system of a motor vehicle in the EC area and an optional part in Switzerland. The rear fog lights, like the normal tail lights, brake lights and turn signals, are attached in pairs to the rear of the vehicle. They serve to make the vehicle more visible to the following vehicles in the event of fog and thereby avoid rear-end collisions. The rear fog lights emit red light with a light intensity that is close to the glare limit. Therefore, they may only be used outside of built-up areas if visibility is reduced to less than 50 meters due to fog. However, this restriction is often not observed. There are vehicle drivers who switch on the rear fog lights when visibility is poor; If the view improves again later, forget to switch the rear fog lights off again or do not switch them off for convenience. Other vehicle drivers are over-cautious and always leave the rear fog lights on in the dark. Since the light intensity of the rear fog lights is close to the glare limit, drivers who follow a vehicle with the rear fog lights switched on in good visibility are blinded by the rear fog lights, which leads to stress and aggression. A possible reaction of these vehicle drivers can be that they switch on the high beam in order to also blind the driver who has switched on the rear fog lamps as revenge. In addition, the burning rear fog lights have a similar light intensity as the brake lights. While the power of the bulbs for the normal tail lights is 5 watts, the bulbs for the brake and rear fog lights have a power of 21 watts. This can lead to a driver who has been careless for a moment and turns his attention back to the vehicle in front of him, looks at the burning rear fog lights as burning brake lights and, in response, initiates an unnecessary braking maneuver. Such situations also create stress and aggression. In addition, these unnecessary braking maneuvers can cause rear-end collisions. According to the state of the art, there is no safe means of preventing the rear fog lamps from burning unnecessarily. Individual car models have a control lamp on the dashboard, which indicates when the rear fog lights are switched on. Most of the time, this indicator lamp is ignored by the drivers. A solution was now sought to prevent stressful, aggressive and accident-promoting situations caused by unnecessarily switched on rear fog lights.
The invention has for its object to provide a device for controlling the rear fog lights 3.
The object is achieved with the aid of the training features according to the characterizing part of patent claim 1.
Es zeigt: The invention relates to a controller 1, which is installed in motor vehicles and switches off the rear fog lamps 3 or at least reduces their light output as soon as another vehicle connects at the rear. It shows:
Fig. 1 Block-Schema der Steuerung 1 1 block diagram of the controller 1
The control 1 reacts to the turning and high beam, which is thrown from the vehicle behind to the rear of the vehicle equipped with the control 1. For this purpose, a light detector 2 is attached to the rear of the vehicle, which detects the incident light. This light detector 2 transmits the necessary commands or impulses to a control unit 4. The control unit 4 then switches off the rear fog lamps 3 or at least reduces their light intensity. If the light detector 2 no longer perceives light because the following vehicle has turned, for example, it again forwards the necessary commands or impulses to the control unit 4, which switches on the rear fog lamps 3 or increases their light intensity. The critical light intensity at which the controller 1 reacts is matched to the weaker light intensity of the low beam.
The control 1 for rear fog lamps 3, which is the subject of the invention, has significant advantages. By eliminating a cause of stress and aggressive behavior in road traffic, it makes an important contribution to road safety. The dazzling effect of the rear fog lamps 3 and the unnecessary braking maneuvers no longer annoy and tire the individual drivers. You can clearly distinguish the brake lights from the rear fog lights and devote your full attention to the other road users.
