The rim (1) and case (2) are held together by screws (7) which, like those through the back (4), may be inserted through reinforcing washers if the plastic is insufficiently rigid. ADVANTAGE - Cost and weight are reduced by use of a min. amount of gold, and moulding which eliminates complex mfr. and assembly of strengthening elements.
Description
The present invention relates to a gold watch case with reinforcement structure in composite plastic material and more particularly to a gold watch case comprising a middle part which consists of an outer part in gold and an inner part in composite plastic which is obtained by molding.
The production of gold watch cases is subject to many parameters and requirements. An essential requirement for obtaining the designation of gold box consists in the fact that the main elements constituting the gold box, i.e. the bezel, the middle part and the back, must be in contact with each other, or on gold. An essential parameter is the compromise between cost and mechanical strength. To reduce the weight of the box and consequently its price, it is therefore necessary to reduce the quantity of gold necessary for the production of the box, but this reduction is limited by the mechanical strength which may become insufficient.
Many forms of execution are known which try to reduce the weight of the gold elements by using internal reinforcing elements obtained from less expensive materials, but these forms of execution all have many disadvantages. The shapes of watch cases are often complicated and therefore the reinforcing elements are complicated to produce and therefore very expensive. In addition, these added elements often require long and complicated mounting operations and do not guarantee optimum sealing.
The object of the present invention therefore consists in remedying the drawbacks of the known embodiments.
According to the principle of the invention, the reinforcements are obtained by molding or injection of composite plastic which has many advantages. The shapes of the various elements constituting the watch case can be produced so as to use the minimum quantities of gold, the molded or injected material being introduced into any shape. The cost price and the weight are therefore greatly reduced while retaining optimal mechanical characteristics. The molding of the reinforcing material completely eliminates the mounting and complicated production of the reinforcing elements. In addition, the molded material being introduced into the most complicated forms, a perfect seal is guaranteed.
The objects are achieved with the principle of the invention as described by claim 1.
The accompanying drawings illustrate schematically and by way of example the principles of the invention.
Fig. 1 is a sectional view of a gold watch case with a composite plastic reinforcement structure.
Fig. 2 is a sectional view of an embodiment with the bezel of the box with reinforcing structure.
Fig. 3 is a sectional view of an embodiment with mounting of the elements by a locking joint.
With reference to fig. 1, the gold watch case is constituted by a gold bezel 1 in which a watch glass 5 is mounted, by a middle part constituted by a gold element 2 and a reinforcement structure 3, and by a bottom in gold 4. The base is fixed to the middle by screws 6 which are screwed into the reinforcement structure. The middle part is fixed to the bezel by screws 7.
The middle part is obtained by overmolding the reinforcing structure in composite plastic material on the gold element.
Fig. 2 shows a gold bezel 1 which has a reinforcing structure 8 which is molded onto said bezel.
Fig. 3 shows an embodiment of assembly of the middle formed by the gold element 2 and the reinforcement structure 3 and the bottom 4 by a seal 9.
Many composite plastic materials can be used for molding the reinforcing structure, namely most plastics which are moldable and which can be filled with composite materials such as carbon fiber for example.
In the case where the reinforcement structure is not of sufficient strength to guarantee good resistance of the threads, reinforcement sleeves can be installed in the reinforcement structure during molding.
