To increase the time available for inserting the weft into the crowd of a weaving loom, it has been proposed to actuate the ends of the frames and of the comb forming the crowd by offset movements. Especially, when the thread is inserted in the form of a loop of which one of the strands is retained (patent CH 503 134) or when the thread unwinds from a bobbin passing through the crowd, the insertion time of the pick can be increased up to at full time of a machine cycle.
So far we have obtained this result by tightening the pick with a rotary comb whose clamping teeth are offset in the form of a helix. This kind of comb has the disadvantage of not adapting to large vamps given the absence of intermediate bearings and given the difficulty of holding the warp threads between the same teeth of the comb. However, the breadth of the trade is important for achieving high production.
There are also combs in which each tooth or each small group of teeth is controlled separately with a certain phase shift. This construction, in addition to being complicated and expensive, does not adapt to fine and delicate fabrics.
The invention, in order to avoid these drawbacks, is defined in claim 1 and will be explained in more detail in the description of the figures.
A rectilinear comb actuated at its ends by the offset movements, tightens the weft in the fabric in the form of a more or less pronounced rounding depending on the offset of the movements. For example, a straight comb having an offset of its ends of 90 DEG tightens the pick in a rounded shape whose arrow is about 15% of the stroke of the comb. This drawback is avoided by giving the comb a rounded shape, symmetrical to that which a straight comb would give to the fabric; the pick thus tightened will be straight in the fabric.
To be able to increase the offset of the movements of the ends of the comb and limit the deflection of its curvature, it is often advantageous to divide the comb, as well as the leaf which supports it, into two or three segments each having their commands offset. For example, to offset by 180 DEG the movement of the ends of a working comb without downtime (connecting rod-crank), we are obliged to divide the comb into at least two segments offset by 90 DEG each, otherwise it would remain motionless in the middle of the vamp and would make the weaving cycle impossible.
Embodiments of the loom according to the invention will be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which
fig. 1a to 1d and 1a min represent, in an axonometric view, the crowd of a loom in its different positions of a weaving cycle,
fig. 2 and 3 determine the position of the ends of the frames and of the comb in correlation with FIG. 1,
fig. 4 shows an arched comb, non-deformable over the entire length of the vamp, during the tightening of the pick,
fig. 5, an example of construction of a leaf using the properties of a split tube whose distortion is easy to achieve the phase shift of the movements while, the ends being held, its resistance to deformation under the influence of the clamping forces of the pick is that of an unsplit tube, therefore very rigid.
In fig. 1a to 1d the vertical hatching represents 1 min opening of the crowd created by the warp threads, at the height of the first frame, the horizontal hatching represents the opening of the crowd between the comb and the fabric. Lines 1 and 2 locate the alignment of the warp threads as they pass through the eyelets 4 of the healds 5 moved by the heald rods 6 of the non-drawn frames. Line 7 shows the shape of the fabric 10. The numbers with prime index relate to the exit from the crowd while the indices a to d relate to fig. 1a to 1d.
The lifting of the frames (therefore of the smooth door rods 6) is done in the example of FIG. 1 by a harmonic movement derived from the circles of FIG. 2, the left circle for entry, the right circle for crowd exit; the indices accompanying the figures in fig. 2 refer to the indices of FIGS. 1. The comb is represented schematically by 3 at the entrance of the crowd and by 3 min at its exit; the dotted line 3 min min represents the position of the comb at the height of the median plane of the crowd. The position of the comb is given in this example by the circles in FIG. 3, the left circle giving the movement at the entrance of the crowd and the right circle that of its exit. As in fig. 2, these movements are offset between the entry and exit of the crowd.
The speed of rotation (w / 2) of the movement of the frames (fig. 2) is half that (w) of the movement of the comb (fig. 3), w being the speed of the loom. In the example chosen, the shift in crowd movements is 90 DEG from the main tree.
The trajectory of a frame drawn in the form of a loop will follow the dotted line trace, 8 representing the strand held, 9 the strand launched from this loop; this plot shows that the available time, with a phase shift of 90 DEG, is greater than 270 DEG whereas in a conventional arrangement, it hardly exceeds 180 DEG. This increases productivity by 50%. It is possible to increase this total phase shift, especially by dividing the leaf in segments as we have seen previously. In this case, the productivity of the loom can increase by more than 100%. With insertion by projectile or by air, in which the wire is in motion over its entire length during the entire insertion, the phase shift is not possible.
Fig. 4 shows three positions of the comb during tightening of the pick. The movement offset being 90 DEG, the tightening of the pick will take place during 90 DEG. To have a fabric 10 that is well rectilinear, the comb has been given a well-defined radius of curvature, the arrow of which "f" is equal to the path traveled by its ends during half of the phase shift angle starting from the dead center on the fabric side. Curve 13 represents the comb when it tightens the wire at the entrance of the crowd, curve 12 the position of the same comb 90 DEG later, when the pick is tightened at the exit of the crowd. Curve 11 shows an intermediate position.
The curve of the comb is also chosen so that in the positions 12 and 13 its end is tangent to the line of the edge 7.
When the offset of the movements of the comb is large, 120 DEG for example, this implies relatively small radii of curvature of the comb giving large arrows "f"; we then have the possibility of dividing the comb into two or more segments, each driven at its ends with a certain offset, the sum of which gives the desired offset.
An example of a leaf giving the necessary stiffness to the comb while leaving it the possibility of shifting the movement of its ends is shown in fig. 5. On a tube 60 split at 61 over its entire length, two ribs 62, 62 min are provided between which the base 63 of a comb 64 is pinched. This tube 60 offers a low resistance to its torsional deformation, given the cancellation of the shear stresses due to the slot 61. On the other hand, its resistance to any deformation due to the clamping forces of the pick in the fabric as well as the mass forces will be great (like that of an unsplit tube) by the fact that the position of the two ends of the tube are retained by the controls. Thus, the comb, fixed along a generatrix of the tube, will keep its rigidity while following the offset movements according to the invention.
In fig. 5, we see the crowd formed of warp threads 71 and 72; we notice the crowd already open on the left while it is closed on the right.
Naturally, under the designation of straight comb, conventional are included all the combs in current use such as for example the combs having an air confinement channel.
