Today's widely used computer programs with menu control or window technology ("Windows") can be operated very comfortably with a so-called "mouse": the mouse is moved back and forth on the work table and this movement is converted into a corresponding movement by the mouse and its associated software Moving the cursor implemented on the computer screen. It is now possible to position the cursor on so-called "menu items" or windows (just the "Windows") in order to make one or the other selection or to acknowledge solutions specified interactively by the program. After positioning the cursor, all you have to do is press a button on the mouse to continue.
As a rule, not only is the mouse on the work table, there are also a number of work documents such as folders, files, data sheets, data lists and much more. When entering large amounts of data, the entire workstation was soon changed and it is very common for the mouse to be moved unintentionally when searching for a specific document. This also moves the cursor, which is why it must then be repositioned with the mouse at the original location. If you have been away from your work place for a long time and an inattentive colleague unintentionally moves the mouse in the meantime, you will no longer know where to go when you resume work.
It is therefore necessary to prevent the accidental generation of coordinate signals to the computer.
To date, there is no way to avoid unintentionally moving the cursor.
The invention has for its object to provide a device with the help of a computer mouse, the unintentional generation of coordinate signals to the hand of the computer can be prevented.
The object is achieved according to the invention with the aid of the training features according to the characterizing part of patent claim 1.
The drifting of the coordinate signals originating from the computer mouse can be prevented by interrupting the X coordinate line and the Y coordinate line. The house is then in "stand-by" mode, which means that no X-Y coordinate signals are transmitted to the computer, even if the mouse is moved on the work surface. The position of the cursor is thus frozen, repositioning is not necessary. The X coordinate line and the Y coordinate line are each interrupted as shown in FIG. 1 with a switch, both of which can be closed and opened by the actuation of a common actuating element 1. The actuating element 1 lies in the support area 2 of the thumb, so it can be operated very easily.
It is known that the thumb does not have to operate any of the two or three input buttons 3 of the mouse, which is why it is ergonomically correct to mount this actuating element 1 in the support area 2 of the thumb. It will be ensured that such an actuating element 1 is attached to both sides 4 of the housing 5. This ensures that the "standby" mouse according to the invention can also be operated by left-handers without difficulty. Slide switches, rocker switches or pressure switches can be used as the actuating element 1. If the actuating element 1 is in the "on" position, then both the x-coordinate line and the y-coordinate line are switched through; the coordinate signals are transmitted. If the actuating element 1 is in the "off" position, the mouse is in the "stand-by" mode.
It is also possible to install a push button provided with a return spring as the actuating element 1. The button can be designed as a sliding button, rocker button or push button. The buttons have the advantage that the mouse is automatically switched to "stand-by" mode as soon as the button is released. Thanks to today's miniature switches and miniature buttons, installation in the housing 5 is possible without any problems. The shape of the housing 5 is irrelevant and, as a rule, you will not even have to enlarge the housing used to date.
If you want to do without the mechanical actuation of the switches, you can install a sensor as the actuating element 1 instead of a push button, a slide, rocker or pressure switch, as is known, for example, from consumer electronics devices. When using sensors, the mouse is automatically in "stand-by" mode as soon as the thumb is lifted from the sensor. The sensor, the associated evaluation electronics and the circuit activated thereby for switching the X coordinate line and the Y coordinate line can also be installed in existing housing 5 without difficulty. A few components are sufficient. The power consumption of these additional components is negligible.
This shows that such a sensor can also be installed in the wireless mice with infrared signal transmission, which are provided with their own power supply (battery).
It goes without saying that the drift prevention can not only be used for classic mice, but also for digitizing mice as used in CAD terminals.
When working in tables or with graphics programs, it is advantageous if you can switch off the X or Y coordinate line individually. This makes it possible to fix the cursor in a row, column or level, depending on the program used. Positioning the cursor within the row or column selected in this way becomes considerably easier since the mouse no longer has to be straight, but only has to be moved approximately in the desired direction; the cursor no longer bounces back and forth. This selective choice of coordinate lines can be implemented in various ways. In the simplest case, a slide switch with four positions is installed as the actuating element 1.
If the actuating element 1 is in the basic position, the switch of the X coordinate line and the switch of the Y coordinate line are closed; both coordinate lines are switched through. In the next position, for example, both coordinate lines would then be switched off ("stand-by" mode), in the third and fourth positions the switch of the X coordinate line or the Y coordinate line is then closed and the X coordinate line or the Y coordinate line is switched through. The more elegant solution, which can be implemented with a switch, button or sensor as actuating element 1, uses an electronic auxiliary circuit. This ensures that each time the actuating element 1 is actuated, the system switches to the next mode.
Specifically, this works as follows: If we assume that the mouse is in the basic position after switching on the computer (both the X coordinate line and the Y coordinate line are switched through), the first time the actuating element 1 is actuated, the Switches of both coordinate lines closed and thus both coordinate lines switched off ("stand-by" mode), after the third and fourth actuation only the X and Y coordinate lines are switched off and after the fifth actuation the mouse is in the basic position again; the game starts all over again.
It can be seen that the evaluation electronics for forwarding manages with two bits (two to the two equal to four different states), which is why it is very simple, requires little electricity and can be easily installed in building 5.
The "stand-by" mouse prevents the cursor from being moved unintentionally on the screen thanks to the drift prevention of the X-Y coordinate signals generated by the mouse. The working comfort of the mouse is significantly increased. It is therefore certain that the "stand-by" mouse will soon push the other products out of the market.
