Abstract
Dental illuminating instrument
Description
BESCHREIBUNG
DESCRIPTION
The present innovation relates to a curved dental light rod for use in connection with lighting devices in dental technology.
Light-curing tooth filling and sealing materials (light-curing composites) are of great importance in modern dental technology.
When working with light-curing composites, a dental light rod - this is a rigid light guide made up of a large number of optical fibers - will act on the light to be processed on the patient's dentition in the wavelength range from approximately 400 to 500 nm calmly.
In order to be able to apply the polymerization light from the working position of the dentist, who usually sits or stands laterally behind or next to the patient, in a comfortable position of the handle, the end of the dental light rod on the application side must be bent. The other end of the dental light rod, at which the light is coupled into it, is inserted into the handle of the light source, usually a halogen lamp.
The generation of the bend creates bubbles in such a dental light rod, especially in the area of the bend, which u. a. affect the overall optical impression of the finished dental light rod. What is much more serious, however, is that both the patient and the dentist are exposed to the (intense) scattered light emanating from the light rod.
Attempts have already been made to circumvent the problem of the scattered light by encasing the straight sections of such a dental light rod, that is to say the end facing the light source and the end on the application side, with a metal sleeve and the area of the bend through Piece of a suitable length of heat shrink tubing suitable for the present purpose is enclosed. The production of a dental light rod of the type described here is very complex.
The aim of the present innovation is a dental light rod that does not emit scattered light and that should be particularly simple and inexpensive to manufacture. In addition, this new dental light rod should meet the requirement that it can be sterilized by hot steam, that it can therefore withstand thermal loads of up to approximately 160 ° C.
This goal is achieved with a curved dental light rod according to claim 1.
According to a preferred embodiment, the dental light rod is coated with an optical layer made of diffusion color.
The innovation is explained in more detail with reference to the drawing, in which
Figure 1 is a side view of a dental light rod according to the invention and
FIG. 2 shows a section along the line II-II of the dental light rod from FIG. List.
FIG. 1 shows a dental light rod 1 according to the invention; the dental rod 1, which is bent at 3, is coated on its outer surface with a protective layer 2.
This protective layer 2 has an optical density such that no scattered light from the light entering the light coupling end 4 and exiting at the tip 5 of the rod can penetrate through this protective layer 2. According to a preferred embodiment of the innovation, the dental light rod 1 has a protective layer 2 which was produced by means of diffusion color.
FIG. 2 shows how the dental light rod 1 consists of a rigid bundle of individual optical fibers 6 and is covered with the protective layer 2.
