Description
BESCHREIBUNG DESCRIPTION
The invention relates to a method for removing sulfur dioxide from exhaust gases, in which the exhaust gas is subjected to washing with an aqueous alkaline solution.
Such methods are known. It is e.g. Exhaust gas coming from a coal combustion plant sprays the alkaline solution with a spray nozzle, which absorbs the sulfur dioxide. The alkaline solution is circulated. In order not to have to lead to large amounts of washing liquid in the circuit, the absorption capacity of the washing solution for SO2 should be as large as possible.
A high absorption capacity is also required so that the combustion exhaust gases do not cool down excessively due to excessive spray water quantities, i.e. the draft of a conventional exhaust duct, such as a chimney, for removing the combustion gases is not impaired in such a way that special devices such as fans have to be used.
In the known processes, either a calcium hydroxide or a sodium hydroxide solution is generally used as the alkaline solution. In both cases, the sulfur dioxide is converted into poorly soluble calcium sulfate, i.e. gypsum. In the former case, the calcium sulfite initially formed is merely oxidized, while in the other case the sodium sulfite formed is oxidized to sodium sulfate and the sodium sulfate solution is then treated with calcium hydroxide. Since gypsum is already sufficiently available from other sources, the gypsum formed in the known exhaust gas purification process is generally dumped. There are thus disposal problems for the sulfur dioxide bound in this way.
The invention, as characterized in the claims, is therefore based on the object of providing a scrubbing solution for exhaust gas desulfurization which can be used in high concentration, has a high absorption capacity for sulfur dioxide and which leads to products which can be used further.
To put it simply, the absorption of sulfur dioxide in the wash solution according to the process of the invention involves the following reactions in the two components of the alkali aluminate when the alkali metal is formed by sodium:
AI2O3 + 3 S02 -► Alz (S03)3| AI2O3 + 3 S02 -► Alz (S03) 3 |
Na20 SO2 -»■ Na2SC>3 Na20 SO2 - »■ Na2SC> 3
While the sodium sulfite remains in solution, the aluminum sulfite flocculates. However, the prerequisite for this is that the washing solution has a pH in the range from 6.4 to 8.0. It is also possible that not neutral aluminum sulfite, as indicated in the simplified reaction scheme given above, but basic aluminum sulfite fails. In any case, the flocculation of the aluminum sulfite is only incomplete at a pH of less than 6.4, and there is no more precipitation at a pH of less than 6.0.
Luftsauerstoff, zu Aluminiumsulfat nach folgendem Reaktionsschema oxidiert: The aluminum sulfite and fly ash in the washing solution are e.g. B. separated by centrifugation or filtration from the sodium sulfite. The separated aluminum sulfite is then in an acidic medium, e.g. in dilute sulfuric acid, under the influence of oxygen, e.g. Atmospheric oxygen, oxidized to aluminum sulfate according to the following reaction scheme:
2 Al2 (S03)3 + 3/2 02 -> 2 Al2 (S04)3 2 Al2 (S03) 3 + 3/2 02 -> 2 Al2 (S04) 3
Dadurch kann eine ca. 50 gewichtsprozentige Aluminiumsulfatlösung erhalten werden. the fly ash is then removed from the aluminum sulfate solution e.g. separated by filtration. As a result, an approximately 50 percent by weight aluminum sulfate solution can be obtained.
In view of the smallest possible amount of wash water to be circulated, the concentration of the alkali aluminate in the wash solution should be at least 0.5 percent by weight. A concentration of 3 to 10 percent by weight has proven itself in practice. However, the concentration can also be higher, for example 20 percent by weight or more.
In addition to the possibility of using a washing solution in high concentration, the method according to the invention has the further advantage that the washing solution can be prepared from a concentrate with a relatively high alkali aluminate content, as a result of which the transport costs are reduced accordingly.
A sodium aluminate solution with a total Na20 and AI2O3 content of 45 percent by weight can be stored for months without a stabilizer. This concentrate is produced by dissolving aluminum hydroxide and sodium hydroxide solution in the heat, with a molar excess of sodium hydroxide solution of up to 1.5, preferably 1.10 to 1.30.
The absorption capacity of the alkali aluminate washing solution for sulfur dioxide is also excellent. For example, a 95 to 97% sulfur dioxide separation from the combustion gas of a fossil fuel with a sulfur content between 0.001 and 4.5% is achieved if 1 to 2 kg of the concentrate mentioned with a total Na2 + and A1203 content per kg sulfur dioxide to be separated 45 percent by weight and a sodium hydroxide excess of 1.19 are used.

Use of alkali aluminate as an alkaline washing solution. Otherwise, the process according to the invention corresponds to the usual processes in which sodium hydroxide solution or soda is used as the washing solution. The process according to the invention can also be carried out continuously by continuously metering the washing solution. The process according to the invention can also be carried out with the same devices as the process operated with sodium hydroxide solution, i.e. with the same storage containers, pumps, pipelines, spray nozzles, etc. All that is required is a centrifuge or a similar device to separate the separated aluminum sulfite flakes.
Auf diese The decisive advantage of the process according to the invention lies in the flocculation of the aluminum sulfite during sulfur dioxide washing and thus the possibility of separating the components sodium sulfite and aluminum sulfite which bind the sulfur dioxide. This is because the absorbed sulfur dioxide can be recycled. I.e. the disposal problem is solved.
It is common in paper production to use alum as an additive for fixing resin glue and for adjusting the pH value. This is because alum increases the affinity of the resin glue for the fiber and ensures a weakly acidic pH value and thus an increase in the hydrogen bond between the paper fibers. The aluminum sulfite obtained in the process according to the invention can therefore be used as such an additive in papermaking after its oxidation to aluminum sulfate instead of alum.
There is also a possibility of further use for the sodium sulfite obtained. This is because it can be converted into sodium bisulfite by further treatment with sulfur dioxide, which is used as so-called cooking acid to break down wood into cellulose.
