DESCRIPTION
On
DESCRIPTION
Numerically controlled automatic lathes allow
to machine a wide variety of parts, from a bar of
matter. The high rates currently required require
able to engage a large number of tools in a very short time.
The purpose of the present invention is to provide a system of
tool turret can be fitted with a large number of tools
different, some of which are rotating tools, this turret
tools; being of compact and robust construction and capable of being
ordered, and in particular indexed, with great precision according to
a multitude of different programs from each other. We
already knows (German application specification DE-32 16891) turrets in which the same electric motor allows indexing of the turret and driving in rotation of certain elements mounted on the turret. It is however a turret which
can carry workpieces and auxiliary devices such as control probes or hooking elements.
The working conditions of the machines with which these known turrets are equipped are however entirely different from those of automatic lathes.
The object of the present invention is thus an indexable tool holder revolver for an automatic lathe, comprising a support, a turret mounted on the support and capable of turning around an axis, a series of fixing stations each equipped with a rotating or stationary tool, these stations being distributed over the turret about its axis and indexing means making it possible to bring said mounting stations successively into a working position by rotation of the turret, characterized in that it comprises a electric motor with programmable control, means for driving the motor at a variable speed according to a predetermined program, a permanent connection between the motor shaft and the rotary tools, coupling means actuated by the programmable control and connecting the motor with the turret at the time of indexing,
and locking means in the indexed position also actuated by the programmable control.
An embodiment of the revolver according to the invention will be described below, by way of example and with reference to the accompanying drawing.
In the drawing:
fig. 1 is a schematic front view in reduced scale of an automatic lathe, and
fig. 2 is an axial sectional view along the line Il-Il of FIG. 1 through the revolver turret and its support.
In fig. 1, we see the lathe doll which is generally designated by 1. It can be a movable doll or a fixed doll, the end of the bar of material to be machined, designated by 2, s extending projecting in a direction perpendicular to the plane of the drawing at the exit of the doll 1. In front of the doll 1 is located a revolver generally designated by 3 and which comprises a support 4 as well as a tool turret 5 The support 4 is mounted on a slide 6 so as to be able to move in a direction perpendicular to the axis of the bar to be machined 2 so that the various tools, mounted on their turret 5, can move away or go away. approach bar 2 depending on the operations to be performed. The turret 5 is a hexagonal turret and it is equipped with six fixing stations, designated by 7, capable of each receiving one of the tools 8.
The indexing of the turret 5 makes it possible to successively bring each of the tools 8 into a particular position 9 which constitutes a working position. As seen in fig. 1, the six tools 8, mounted on the turret 5, comprise three drills and three chisels, that is to say three rotary tools and three fixed tools. Of course, the turret could be equipped so as to include a different number of fixing stations and to receive, for example, milling cutters, tapping dies, etc. In the case where the axis of the turret 5 is parallel to the axis of the headstock, as is the case in FIG. 1, it is obvious that when a rotating tool, such as a drill or a milling cutter, is in the working position and attacks the bar, the spindle must be stopped.
However, as a variant, the revolver described can also be located in front of the headstock with its axis perpendicular to that of the bar, the tool turning in the working position then being coaxial with the bar. In this case, when it is a tool such as a tapping die, it will be necessary, for a correct performance of the tapping operation, that the tool and the bar are driven not only in synchronism with speed ratios determined very precisely but also in phase. The drive means which will be described below make it possible to satisfy this requirement.
Fig. 2 shows in more detail the construction of the support 4 and of the turret 5. The support 4 is made up of several elements assembled so as to constitute a rectangular block, with a central passage of cylindrical shape 10 which is equipped with a bearing system 11, intended to support the turret, as will be seen later. At the front of the support 4 and coaxially with the cylindrical passage 10 is mounted a profiled annular wall 12 which has in its internal face a fixed crown 14. The latter has in its front face a toothing with a triangular profile 15 whose teeth are slightly inclined towards the axis for a purpose which will be mentioned later. This ring is fixed by means of screws and centered by positioning pins 16. The wall 12 also carries a positioning pin 17 and, at its lower part, a position sensor 18.
The device described also comprises other detectors arranged so as to supply electrical signals capable of being analyzed and used in an electronic programmable automatic control device in order to allow the tool holder to be controlled with all the required precision. Finally, the support 4 carries the stator of an electric motor 22 which will be of the direct current type, at variable speed, the switching on and off as well as the speed of this motor being able to be controlled by the same electroaic device. according to a pre-established program. The stator of the motor 22 comprises a support flange fixed against the rear face of the support block 4. Its rotor comprises an output shaft 23 which extends coaxially with the cylindrical passage 10.
This shaft 23 is directly coupled by means of a sleeve 24 and keys 25 and 26 to a drive shaft 27 which allows the rotary tools 8 to be driven in rotation. Thus, this shaft 27 carries, in the vicinity of its end anterior, a bevel gear 28, keyed on a cylindrical bearing of this shaft.
The turret proper 5 comprises a turret block 29 which, in the embodiment described, is a part with axial symmetry of hexagonal shape, that is to say with six flats 30 on its periphery, each of these flats being pierced with a radial opening of cylindrical shape 31 constituting a fixing station for a fixed or rotating tool. We see in fig. 2, in the fixing station 31, a tool holder 32 comprising a drill 33, with at its rear end a bevel gear 34 in engagement with the gear 28. On an internal bearing 35 of the turret block 29 is mounted a bearing at balls 36 which supports, by means of a nozzle 37, the front end of the shaft 27. A cover 38, fixed on the block 29, protects the bearing 36 and the mounting of the drives of the rotary tools.
The end piece 37 allows the mounting of a pulley for driving a rotating tool holder with an axis parallel to that of the revolver. In the case where, in a fixing station such as 31, the tool put in place is a fixed tool, this tool will be fixed to a tool holder adapted to the bore 31, but the elements of which will not exceed the base of this bore, so as not to come into contact with the pinion 28.
The block 29 is extended towards the rear by a sleeve-shaped part 39 fixed by screws to the block 29 and which serves to ensure the pivoting of the turret 5 relative to the support 4 and of the shaft 27 inside of the turret 5. Two ball bearings 40 are mounted between a small diameter extension of the shaft 27 and an internal bore of the sleeve 39. As for the external cylindrical surface of the sleeve 39, it is guided in the bearings 1 mentioned more high.
At the rear end of the sleeve 39 is also fixed a ring gear 41, with radial straight teeth. The motor carries an encoder which permanently gives the angular position of the central shaft and makes it possible to measure its speed. Between the internal bore of the ring gear 41 and the shaft 27, a bearing 43 is also provided. A second bearing 44 follows rearwardly the bearing 43 on the same bearing of the shaft 27. This second bearing supports a coupling dog 45 which has toothing 46. This dog has at its rear end axial teeth intended to cooperate with corresponding axial teeth of the sleeve 24.
In the position shown in the drawing, the dog 45 is decoupled from the sleeve 24, but it is understood that, if it is moved axially to the left in FIG. 2, its teeth engage with those of the sleeve 24 and, from then on, it is driven with the toothed crown 46 in rotation by the motor 22 which will therefore, on the one hand, be directly coupled by the intermediate of the pinions 34 of the rotary tools 33 with these tools and, on the other hand, with the toothing 46.
The control of the engagement of the coupling between the dog clutch 45 and the sleeve 24 is carried out by the following means: an auxiliary shaft 47 is supported in housings 48 and 49 of the support 4 of the turret. While the housing 49 is a bearing housing, of cylindrical shape, adapted to the diameter of the rear end of the shaft 47, the housing 48 is arranged so as to guide a piston 50 which covers the front end of the shaft 47. This piston is fixed on the end of the shaft 47 by a screw 51 and the cylinder 48 can be supplied with pressurized oil by a conduit 52 to drive the piston to the left. A guide sleeve 53 provided with seals closes the chamber in which the piston 50 slides at its rear end, this rear part of the cylinder also being connected to an oil outlet or supply.
The part 53 is fixed by screwing against a flat circular milling of the support 4. It is on the central part of the shaft 47 that the gear member 54 is mounted. The latter has two teeth of different diameters: a wheel teeth which, as can be seen, are engaged with the teeth 46 of the dog clutch 45 and a pinion teeth which are engaged with the teeth of the toothed crown 41 secured to the sleeve 39. In addition, the member 54 is mounted on the central part of the shaft 47 by bearings 55 while a stirrup-shaped drive plate 56 embraces the dog clutch 45 in a groove formed between the posterior toothing of the dog clutch 45 and the radial toothing 46 of meshing with the organ 54.
The part 56 is guided between a cover 57 and the body of the member 54, around a boss of this member 54, so that, if the shaft 47 is in an axial position such that the dog clutch 45 is in taken with the sleeve 24, the member 54 is rotated by the toothing 46 and drives the turret 5 by means of the ring gear 41 and the sleeve 39. On the other hand, if the shaft 47 is in a position shifted to the right, as seen in fig. 2, so that the dog clutch 45 is out of engagement with the sleeve 24, none of these elements is driven and the turret 29 is in a fixed position.
The device described also comprises locking means making it possible to ensure the orientation of the turret 29 when it is in the working position and to fix it precisely in a position such that one of the rotary tools is exactly in the working position. These locking means comprise a rotating crown 58, fixed by screws against an annular shoulder of the sleeve 39. This crown has in its front face a toothing with triangular teeth homologous to the teeth 15 of the fixed crown 14. It is placed so that its teeth extend those of the crown 14. The crown 58 is positioned by pins 59.
In addition, a locking crown 60 is placed opposite the crowns 14 and 58 and has toothing exactly homologous to that of the two crowns already described. This crown 60 is supported by control rods 61 which are distributed around the axis of the shaft 27 and which are linked to jacks (not shown) engaged in housings of the body 4. As shown in fig. 2, the locking crown 60 is in the disengaged position, so that its teeth are not in engagement with the teeth of the crowns 14 and 58. It is only in this position of the crown 60 that the dog clutch 45 can be coupled to the sleeve 24, thereby causing the turret to rotate.
When the desired position has been reached, the dog clutch 45 is released from the sleeve 24, after which the jacks controlling the rods 61 can be pressurized, which displaces the crown 60 in the axial direction and causes the crown 58 to be in a orientation exactly determined by the teeth 15 of the fixed crown 14. The axial movements of the crown 60 are guided by the prisoners 17 whose heads are engaged in grooves provided for this purpose at the outer end of the crown 60. It will be noted that the probe 18 makes it possible to check the position of the crown 60 and therefore the blocking or unblocking state of the turret.
Similarly, the probe 20 makes it possible to check whether the shaft 47 is in its extreme right position or whether it is moved to the left, in which case the left end of the shaft 47 is fully engaged in the housing 49 and the plate 56 causes the engagement of the sleeve 24 with the drive of the turret.
It follows from the preceding description that, in the case where the turret 5 is equipped with several rotary tools, each of these tools comprises a drive pinion 34 which is engaged with the pinion 28. This construction makes it possible to permanently control the synchronism of the rotating tools with the motor.
As mentioned above, the device described allows, in the case where the tool-holder turret is arranged with its axis perpendicular to the axis of spindle 2 and where, consequently, the tools are oriented at the end, perform operations such as tapping a helical groove, for example. The speed of rotation of the rotating tool must therefore be in a very precise relationship with that of the spindle. In addition, it is also necessary that the respective orientations of the spindle and the tapping tool are properly arranged at the start of the operation. By virtue of the fact that the rotary tools are directly engaged, by means of the bevel gear 28, 34, with the motor shaft, the control of the engine automatically makes it possible to achieve the required condition.
The construction described of the tool holder revolver is therefore particularly suitable for the numerical control of the various operations which must be planned. The presence of a single drive motor reduces the cost of construction as well as the overall size of the revolver. In addition, the speed control of this engine, combined with the clutch control 24, 45 via the cylinder 48, 50, and the control of the turret lock by the crown 60 can be controlled by the various detectors mounted on the revolver. The detector 20 controls the position of the coupling 24, 45, while the detector 18 controls the position of the locking crown 60.
All the elements are therefore brought together so that computer programs can be established controlling all the commands and all the operations necessary for the machining of parts having a certain structure in the end of the bar 2 coming out of the headstock 1 of the tower. The simplicity of the construction of the revolver as well as the great precision of maneuver of the various elements make it possible to make tool changes very quickly and, consequently, to carry out very rapid machining operations.
As said, the turret 5 can be constructed as a variant so as to receive a number of tools other than six and, if applicable.
if necessary, tool changes can even be made automatically, for example depending on their wear.
